Had 3 group leaders in mine. The one we gave the job to became nervous and his voice broke, then three other guys started to drag it between them, with one forming time-keeper, another one forming moderator and the last was just shouting "as quickly as possible". I knew they were all Nairalanders and they had seen the 'advice' to take charge. I was just laughing in my mind. 5 Likes |

My Assessment Centre was on Saturday for 7.30am. Group discussion - this was fairly ok. Some people wouldn’t even signify that they wanted to talk and they’ll just jump in even before someone hasn’t finished talking. There was a particular guy who didn’t make any contributions at all. Each time I wanted to make a contribution, I raised my hand up to signify I wanted to say something and they’ll allow me talk. Power point preparation - this was fairly straightforward but I was a bit pressured coz we were timed and all and you’re looking at your slides whether they’re too simple or you should add more things. I decided to keep mine simple. Interview - I was the last person for my batch and I noticed the assessor asking me the questions looked tired and all (don’t know if that was favorable or not) and the other person just kept writing, looked at me a few times and asked me like 2 questions to clarify what I was asked. When I was asked what are FirstBanks products, I could only mention two then I blacked out from there. I just told the man that we should move on to the next question. The product question was like the only downside of my interview Presentation - I was also the last person for this. Assessors just pointed out something in one of the points I raised and we agreed it shouldn’t be there since another point was already going to do the job of the point she raised. I wish everyone of us success. 1 Like 1 Share |

Thanks to all the guys in previous recruitment that took out their time to share their experiences, most especially scented , cloud9usher and the other guys too. May Allah reward you all. I had my AC towards the end of the exercise. I'll share my experiences as follows: Group discussion: This was the first exercise I had , we weren't up to 6 in my group, well, I spoke first and contributed my points, another guy followed, and we all spoke at turns. At a point, I had to call the attention of my colleagues to the limited time we had, while a contributor was dragging her contribution for so long with unnecessary stories, though, I said this after she finished with her contribution( don't know if its a negative). Power point Preparation: I did well here, I was able to prepare my slides in time, about 8 of them. Interview: This was were I think I performed best, I answered well all the questions posed. I.e About my self, scopes of FBN services and products, time I was innovative, time I led a team, a time I disagreed with a boss, time I felt I did3 have enough skill to accomplish a task. I answered all the questions drawing up experiences from.my undergraduate days and NYSC mostly. Essay writing I tried my best here too, but I couldn't writing the concluding part of the essay due to time factor. Presentation: I had no issues here, I presented well, and my assessors asked no questions and said nothing, except when one of them told me I had a minute to conclude my presentation. Overall, AC was cool. it was a worthwhile experience. I pray for success. 1 Like 1 Share |

And I that HCP/FBN deserves an accolade. The set up/organisation was great. They are sweet people, they did well. I just wish they can spread it out more to make it a little more convenient/less stressful for them. If they can reduce the participants per day and have more weeks for the AC. I hope they can raise more money to finance the recruitment so that the operations can be easier Great works HCP/FBN 3 Likes |

I also want to share my experience for posterity sake and more importantly for the benefits of any stammer that would be thinking of the process and fretting about it like I was. I did mine on the 5th and was with the 16-32 batch. The group presentation came first, this was one of my top fear because it involved speaking very fast and speaking sense. Oh, I know how to speak sense but in my group, we timed ourselves so it was important you pass out your points quickly ( for a stammer, its not easy). My solution was to aim at speaking first, then I set the tone of the conversation and avoided the pressure of trying to speak better than the others. I did stammer still but most of the others that spoke buttressed my points so I still got referred to which I believe helps. Also it's important to keep a good body language - smile and nod when your peers are talking and take notes. My topic was 'building SMEs- challenges and how the government, central bank and commercial banks can proffer solutions' Then came the writing part. My writing skills are top notch so I had no problems here( my best part). My only worry is having not written more than the 600word limit (couldn't estimate due to time but I doubt it was more). The writing is based on the group discussion topic so the extra points of other group members would come in handy here if you jotted. The interview was supposed to be the part I would dread the most but interestingly, I had it better than other speaking parts. The ladies that accessed me were fantastic ( I explained to them at the start that I stammered just incase a part of what I say is inaudible,I would be happy to repeat), they tried to make me as calm as possible ( oh well ). Because this part was more like a conversation so each question required my answer regardless of the time I take, it helped me speak better. I got asked the question of ethics and I answered I had not experienced a situation like that but went on to say how I would likely react in that situation so it's important that even if you don't have the experience, you not keep quiet but say how you would likely react in that situation ( it works). Besides it's a graduate trainee role so we're not expected to have had so much experience. PowerPoint preparation, I aimed at making it simple and straightforward. Had only four slides - introduction, problems, solutions and opportunities for the bank but I forgot the title and conclusion pages because of time ( I thought our preparation time went so fast considering I am pretty good at PowerPoint). I feel I did good in the presentation part but with 10mins breathing down your neck, its never easy. I tried to keep eye contact with the assessors and the guy looked like I was blowing his mind. The other lady assessor mentioned it was good that I wasn't reading off my slides but she said I seemed too anxious ( well, 10mins madam ). Had so much to say in such short time. I didn't get asked any questions too( hopeful a good thing), I tried to make it as simple and understandable as I could In all, I thought the process was intense and I am hopeful if my stammering doesn't count so much against me. On the flip side, HCP should have done better with the refreshments (arghhhhhhh ). That could only have made the tummy rumble even more. Best wishes to the next batch. 6 Likes |
