If he is not up to the mark then sorry we cannot feature him. No automatic shirt for any Nigerian player whether home born or foreign born.

Oga all this write up because of Lateef Omidiji. The boy simply did not measure up and was dropped. Period.

Kudos to Manu for selecting based on merit and not sentiments.

I heard he didn't train with the team from the onset. If true, this is enough to believe there was a premeditated plan to drop him even before kicking a ball.

Perhaps, he trained with the team and he saw he is better than some players taken ahead of him due to the Nigerian factor he witnessed with his two eyes in the camp.

If he's not good enough, I don't think America will want him in their team.

Your statement was misleading that is the reason you should be corrected. It's as simple as that.

How about Balogun, Ekong and Ebeuhi?
These people need to understand that they cannot all be there. First of all, there are a lot of Nigerians. Secondly, there are other FBs who made the list as well.
I know in the past we haven't always done things properly, but like you said being foreign born does not mean you get an automatic shirt. I can understand with Sophie and Deji because I don't know why they have not been called up, but Lateef is still eligible for the next U17 World Cup and he can still try again.
Manu Garba imo is probably one of the fairest coaches (at this level) that we have and someone mentioned that he had a pool of 60 boys to choose from.
Like elyte said, what of those who were in camp, impressed the coach, and MRI didn't let them through despite being within the correct age bracket?
Let these foreign borns also understand. We don't want them to feel like outsiders but we can't give them preference over their colleagues born here either. Everyone deserves a fair chance.

Kelechi Nwakali did not make it in Iheanacho's U17 set. In the next one, he not only made it but came out the best player of the tournament.

Our hearts go out to him for his distraught but he needs to work hard to prove that he has what it takes to become a big part of our football.

So you think the American U17 is stronger than ours. Lateef will surely make the cut in the American team because it is a weaker side.

Nope, he trained with the team before they went for their Turkish tour and was invited to join training camp after.

I heard from reliable sources that Lateef was not performing well in training, well before the final list was released.

Do not say that. That is a kid with a burning and passionate desire to play for us. He has worked hard and showed his dedication to us.

It is heartbreaking to lose a place in the team. He needs consolation, not ridicule.

What is your own definition of "onset"?
Do you know when Manu started preparing his team? Lateef was never part of the Eaglets. He was part of the U15 and even took part in that tournament late last year. If i am not mistaking he was drafted into the team after we booked the CAF U17 ticket. You are now talking as if he was purposely kept out of training.

He was simply not up to par. After all Adrian Akande joined the team a couple of weeks ago and he is in.

Lateef should take this as a learning curve and continue his development. If he is good enough for the next U17 team he will be considered.

All foreign born players coming into the national team should bear it in mind that they won't be treated specially cus they are FB... There are several hundreds of FB out there that can still play for Nigeria abeg... Manu Garba that we know won't have dropped Lateef if he was good enough! Was it not Manu that took a small Abdul Alfa to UAE 2013?

if Lateef wants to switch allegiance now,no problem... Soldier go, soldier come, barrack go remain!!

This nonchalant attitude of, I don't care will not lead us to anywhere. We will be keep being brain drained if we don't try hard to do everything in our capacity to retain and attract our best brains home and abroad.

Even if he doesn't make the cut there is a way you can still pass the message to make him realise he is still needed and you care.

All these soldier go soldier come barrack remain has not done us any good until now. You are only breading mediocres.

We heard the same thing. The English U -20 team is weaker side but they won the trophy. The English U-17 team is weaker but they won the world cup trophy. The English national is weaker side but went ahead of Nigeria's 'stronger' team to finish fourth place.

Nigerians are just too arrogant but empty. I am sorry to say this.

Stop comparing England to America na, they are miles apart, football wise.

It might even be worse than Nigeria's case, if he was competing for space in England team. So don't compare them

but it's the truth, in age grade competition we are stronger than both countries, Greece have won the euros but England have never won it, does it mean Greece is stronger than England?

Exactly my point. If they really wanted to see his ability and take him to the competition, they should have taken him on tour to Turkey but they just used him as training material when they never had plan for him.

I don't think it was about performance.

So they should drop those who did better than him?

My understanding was that he was poor. Misplacing passes, did not have the strength to compete with the other boys, lost possession under pressure.etc.

Congrats to the English U-17 team winning the World Cup. We have won it multiple times, not ones and recently produced some delightful talents.

However, the USA team is not the English side.
