Why call him when you know you have better players?

Because the selection was made from a large pool of players. What you are saying is that Manu Garba should not have checked if Lateef was good enough.

Congrats to the English U-17 team winning the World Cup. We have won it multiple times, not ones and recently produced some delightful talents.

However, the USA team is not the English side.

Yet we never beat them at the senior level. Tell me another thing.

Besides, English team has achieved more than Nigeria at all levels in football. So be humble. English are not our mate.

oga, olayinka's move to slavia prague is a no no to me. its normal to have surprises in european club competitions so even if slavia knocks out chelsea from the europa league it doesn't turn them to one of the finest in europe

I already knew Slavia Prague before Peter joined, so It was not a surprise to me as at then.

The point remains that Manu has his boys. Checking Lateef was just to save face.

This nonchalant attitude of, I don't care will not lead us to anywhere. We will be keep being brain drained if we don't try hard to do everything in our capacity to retain and attract our best brains home and abroad.

Even if he doesn't make the cut there is a way you can still pass the message to make him realise he is still needed and you care.

All these soldier go soldier come barrack remain has not done us any good until now. You are only breading mediocres.

I repeat again, "soldier go,soldier come, barrack go remain"! Nigeria has the largest population in Africa.. There's football talent scattered everywhere! we shouldn't deprive some people of the chance to represent just because somebody is foreign born! .all players should be given a level playing field..

Lateef is 15 he is still eligible for the next u-17 and in fact he might even still make the works cup list if we qualify,so what the hell is he crying for? Maybe he was under the delusion that he would be given an automatic shirt cus he is foreign born...

The Manu Garba we know is fair in his player selection and can identify a talent when he see one,so I refuse to believe that there was a conspiracy against the boy...

We should relax on this obsession for foreign born players! it won't do us any good in the long run.

We won't win it by stocking up our national team with foreign born players only... We select only the best! and in the case of Lateef,he wasn't better than the others he was comp writing with... He should man up and put in extra work...

I know. Same way Lyon was in France but now has PSG dominanting after an ambitious owner came into the team.

The same thing happened in Czech league and I told you about the changes then but some of you don't seem to understand.

Why call him when you know you have better players?

Now I'm beginning to suspect that u don't know much about the matter before u jumped in....

Lateef has been with the u-15 team since last year.. He participated in a tournament in Morocco(or was it Algeria?) where we came second self.. Obviously, his performance with the u-15 earned him a call up to the u-17... I believe a few boys from the u-15 were invited to train with the u-17 too...

Take a look at this pic... that's Lateef with Suleiman Lawal at the u-15 camp last year.. Those who have seen Suleiman clips will attest to how good he is I daresay he is better than Lateef..both boys are still eligible for the next u-17 set... I haven't seen Suleiman crying anywhere for not making the list, but u want us to be sad for Lateef?

It wasn't so long ago that this thread was rocked by massive call from the foreign born crew that Josh Maja should be called up to the super eagles with the excuse that we will loss him to England soon...
"Lion in a big league" they called him... Now Maja is at a bigger club and a bigger league, but what has he done? has he justified the hype he got while playing in the fishermen league one?

I'm not against the inclusion of foreign born player into any level of the national team at all.. All I want is that the same rule should apply to all players whether foreign born or not. There should be a level playing ground!!

I don't know why some people are of the opinion that filing our national team with foreign born players will improve it...
Morocco have the best league in Africa and some of the best infrastructure too.. they invest a lot in their youth team but end up filling the senior team with foreign born players... what have they achieved by doing that

So in summary you believe that Lateef was treated unfairly because he is an outsider?

This statement has nothing to do with Lateef don't even know who he is.

But is in general looking at this hole demarcation that many have made here between Nigerian origin players and players born in Nigeria.

With a preference by many for the latter.

Why can't you make your point straightforward?

There were 12 new players from the players that won the WAFU cup. More than half of the boys that won the WAFu cup are gone. It shows that the coach was looking for new blood.

We are talking U-17 here and I do not think England has achieved more than us in that level. By the way, Lateef is flirting with USA. Not England. I wonder why you are bringing England into it.

He did not measure up to the standards and so was dropped. The boy is still very young and can still feature with the next U17.

Once again Kudos to Manu Garba for selecting based on merit and not sentiments. His decision is final on his choice of players.

The same way you people said Rohr list to the world cup was final. List full of impotent strikes and unreliable mildfielders. Continue.
