05/06 GS300 uses a 3.0L that makes about 250 HP. 07-11 GS350 uses a 3.5L V6 that makes about 300 HP. All use a 6-speed transmission. Body style from 2005-2011 was the same.

IS300 is the first generation of the IS. IS250 is the second generation that started in 2006. IS300 uses the 3.0L V6 2JZ, IS250 uses the 2.5L V6 4GR, I believe. The IS250 is the better car. The IS200 is more adventurous, though.

The Lexus GS is a stretched, more luxurious IS. Parts are more expensive, fuel economy is worse. Handling and speed are worse too, since it's a bigger, heavier car.

Rear legroom in the IS is terrible, though.

Abeg if na you.. Which one will u choose.. Abi should I just buy a toyota matrix jejely
I am raising about 2m plus for this. No more than 2.3 or so thou.
I wanna buy on copart thru kakakii

Depends on what you want. 2.3 should be enough for an 06 IS250, I believe. You may have to look hard, though. In any case, an IS is a much better car than a Matrix.

The S designation is the performance version of the A designation.Though their may be some interior and luxurious standard fittings in the S compared to the A.

but in dimension and width they are extremely identical to a large %
Thanks for your clarification Bro. Reading reviews about them all, one thing keeps coming up with Audi...... Very expensive repairs..... I no do

The big issue about Audi's is how much of a pain they are to work on. I kid you not. Something that will take 5 mins on a Toyota takes hours on an Audi because you may have to take off the bumper, etc.

I looked at the 08+ A4 when shopping for a new car and chose to look elsewhere. You'd do well to do so too.

Personally, I'd look at Mazda. Get an 09 Mazda 6 with the 3.7L Duratec engine. Also look at the 2005 C320. If you can raise your budget to 2.3-2.5m, look at the Infiniti G35 and Lexus IS. Leave those demonic Audis for those mad enough to handle them.

Good morning,
A colleague of mine is viewing this thread as a guest and needs advise on what car to buy. He has a max budget of 2.5m and here are his options based on durability, maintenance and servicing, parts availability and AC.
2.5m is for toks.

2009 Lexus ES350 (toks)
2008 Lexus IS300 (toks)
2006 Lexus GS300 (toks)
2006 Mercedes C280 (toks)
2008 Infiniti G35 (toks)

Please give your candid advice as he is reading. He is a young man in his early 30's.
Thanks.

Depends on what he wants. All of the cars are great, though I'd personally rule out the C280. There's also no IS300; it's the IS250/IS350.

2009 Lexus ES350 (toks)
the ES would be more common and parts would be easily available. It is fitted with a simple 2GR engine just like Camry V6, it's the easiest I would pick of all.

2008 Lexus IS300 (toks)
The IS300 was available in some regions I don't think it was available in North America only the 250 and 350. I am guessing a 300 is for Australia and may be RHD

2006 Lexus GS300 (toks)
Now I have always had a soft spot for the GS it's an elongated IS reliable and the engine for that year 3GR isn't too complicated neither is it expensive

2006 Mercedes C280 (toks)
its ok though

2008 Infiniti G35 (toks)
fastest of the lot not a complicated car too, not best with mpg, not a common site but extremely luxurious too.

Please give your candid advice as he is reading. He is a young man in his early 30's.

Hello Car gurus in the house.

I'm planning to buy my first car for everyday run-around.

I would love to buy the corolla but I cherish my peace of mind, I can't trade it for anything grin and can't afford comprehensive insurance ATM. Though, I can afford a tracker but that doesn't solve the problem of vandals.

From what I've garnered following this thread and other car talk threads, I realized Honda Civic and Toyota Matrix are kinda same with the Corolla (correct me if I'm wrong please smiley )

So my question is, which of the two (Matrix and Civic), and which year/model would you advise me to go for considering the following:
- Fuel economy
- Ruggedness, Reliability and proneness to developing faults
- Availability and cheapness of parts
- Availability of Mechanics in rural areas
- Affordability
- Uber and Bolt compliant (Optional).
- Most importantly: PEACE OF MIND. I really don't like trouble grin

My budget is 1.4M max if I could get toks for that amount but would like to spend lesser if it's gonna be sound naija used grin

Thank you.

Someone landed an 08 Civic for about that amount. That's the best car for your money.

Thank you for your response.
He has narrowed his search to these 2;
2008 ES350 and 2008 G35.
His criteria to inform his choice are:
Ease of maintenance
Accessibility of parts.
Ruggedity
AC functionality and fixing (if it gets bad)
Respect
And which will inform a financially wise decision overall, considering that he wants to use the car for a max of 5 years before selling.
Thanks.

ES350. Not because it's the better car--it's not--but because it's the easier, more logical option.

SUV: Fully loaded Highlander, RX350
Sedan: Accord, Camry, Lexus ES
MPV: Odyssey, Sienna

These are probably the cars that will give the least stress during your period of ownership.

The only downside to the car is the AC compressor, it gets spoilt around 100k km I don't know whether it can be mitigated but a lot of complaints in that department.

The engine is quite expensive stay away from an abused one and ensure you use the manufacturer specific oil weight from a reputable company on it. Did I also mention overheating which can be avoid by been vigilant.

majority of the engines been ringed was caused by overheating and the car may not remain the same
