A Delta State University Teaching Hospital, DELSUTH doctor has allegedly abandoned a patient in the surgical room after her family refused to heed to his advice of taking her to his private hospital.

The report was posted on social media by popular social media influencer, Japhet Omojuwa, who was allegedly contacted by the son of the patient.

The medical doctor allegedly asked the family of the patient to pay N1.2million into the account of the private hospital, despite making an initial payment of about N1million at the DELSUTH.

Omojuwa, who posted the story had written:

His mum was admitted at the Delta State Teaching Hospital. They had paid over N1m for her treatment. The same Doctors who abandoned the mum are suggesting they pay another N1.2m to a private hospital for her to get treatment. How is this not criminal?

This is the height of inhumanity. 9ja matter dey weak person walahi! That doctor should be investigated by both the police and the medical association of Nigeria. And if found wanting, his medical license should be withdrawn after which he should be sent to a federal prison.

Corruption have eaten so deep into our marrow.

The Surgeon is clearly not practicing Medicine out of passion, he's mainly after the doe.

We can blame him how much we want tho, but the truth is we are guilty of one thing or the other in our respective earning industries due to greed.

This should never be in doubt...

I personally know three doctors from there with private clinics in Oghara, Mosogar and Sapele....

It has become a standard and a norm with them...

Pedicle screws and rods. It must be a spine surgery.. Lumbar fusion surgery.
Doing the surgery without adequate preparation of what could work and couldn't work is a serious error on his part.
Do not believe that no public hospitals in Nigeria has the equipments. He shouldn't have started the surgery in the first place if the implements are not available. That's too crass and reeks of poor judgements. He should have referred the patient to a government facilities where such cases can be managed. Nigeria maybe bad but there are government hospitals with good management teams where good happens irrespective of the Nigerian factors.
The three orthopedic hospitals in Nigeria where cases like this are handled on daily bases wouldn't have ran out of screws and rods. If the screws and rods are not available in Nigeria, an order would've been made to bring it in within the one month it took the patient to wait for the surgery.

He should have referred your mum to an orthopaedic hospital either Enugu, Dala-Kano or Igbobi instead of his private hospital.
Now he and the management of DELSUTH will start explaining to unlicensed social media judges?

There is more to this story. I know most docs have private practice and while I agree they can codedly direct you to their comfort zone, they won't do it openly and at the risk of losing their jobs and licence!
They should be mad at the hospital management and not the doctor, abi what can he do with a bad equipment or power outage?

WTF! That doctors license should be withdrawn with immediate effect, in fact by now he should be in a police cell, that's misconduct in its highest form. How can you open a patient up and go home? This is beyond mesmerizing undecided

most of the doctors in public establishments do not have fear of God in them, this is menace to society, there should be a law banning doctors in the government owned hospital from owning private hospitals, to prevent cases like this.
most of them usually refer patients to their private clinics , the rot in the system is alarming, Nigeria need prayer.

So this clown looking apologist of an influencer believed the son's story hook, line and sinker without even getting other accounts, even if not from the Dr in question.
This is how they destroy people's reputations all in the bid to appear influential.

If their machines are not working for whatever reason or there's no light, the surgery will be abandoned, provided it's an elective surgery. If they've opened you up about 15 minutes into a 3-4 hour surgery, and they face challenges, the safe thing to do is to close you back up before they've gone far. It's for a patient's safety. However, if they've gone far into the surgery, and develop faulty equipments, God is your strength.
There's little they can do if what they need to do the surgery is faulty.
So safety first. This particular case is obviously a situational judgement scenario, and its expected you do the safest thing for the patient.
I'm not in support of the surgeon referring to his own private hospital without them asking for such. If your work is so good, other patients will refer people to your private hospital
