It was in the 1970’s when Dundee United decides to visit Nigeria for their pre-season tour.
However they lost all their matches to local clubs in Nigeria (including 4:1 loss to Stationary Stores) among others.

This was at a time when Nigeria football was still growing, having never won the Nations Cup or even qualified for the World Cup.

This made Nigerians look at the Dundee Football a Club as fools, having come from Europe, play the champions league and have top players but still can’t manage a win among Local clubs with little or no facilities.

Ever since then, anybody that does something weird or unbelievable is regarded as a Dundee or Dundee United

Dundee United is a football club , so basically calling someone Dundee United means the person is a fool in Nigeria.

I know Dundee United is a Scottish football club and I know morons are sometimes called Dundee. The back story is what I didnt believe so i took to Google and got this from UK Guardian, it's kinda true

It’s true: Dundee United is slang for idiot in Nigeria. This peculiar fact came to British attention in 2010, during a BBC documentary about the Nigerian capital Lagos. A local man, Chubby, told the filmmakers how life in Lagos is not for the foolish. “Anybody who came to Lagos and he didn’t learn sense, he cannot get sense ever,” said Chubby. “Because here if you are a fool, they will learn you how to get sense. If you are a ‘Dundee United’, when they start to pour shit on you, you will get sense.”

As this article in the Scotsman explains, many believe this stems from a disastrous tour in 1972. There is also a suggestion that, when Nigeria were based at Dens Park during the Under-16 World Cup of 1989, some mischievous Dundee fans decided to enrich their vocabulary.

A majority of Nairaland commentors are Dundees. There are over 2million members on Nairaland with an estimated 10million non registered members. Out of the over 2million register members, only 0.5% of them are regular commentors who also push the like, share, and mention buttons. 70% are active readers who go through the comments but don't like, share or mention. 29% are active readers only. They don't wish to see the rubbish posted by half of 0.5 commentors.

That is why the average maximum likes fluctuates between 100 - 300likes per very good and very useless comments and peak at 400likes for great and most useless comments. There is a battle for the soul of commentary amongst the 0.5% with a significant push and leanings towards the 'useless'.

If the high nos of reasonable readers from the 99% push the buttons, the average likes, shares or mentions for a great post will peak at over 200k or more just like you find in Instagram. However, the ruthlessness and insolence of half the 0.5% who quickly post the 'useless' has painstakingly made it difficult for the 70% who regularly search for good and great comments and 29% who rarely are interested in going down the journey of 'useless'.

When I write, I write for the digestion of the 99% and half the 0.5%. The most reasonable and important part of the group who although, stay quiet, are far more active in mind.
