Nigerians are the most stupid set of people on earth. You are humiliated, assaulted, insulted, exploited, assassinated etc by every government personel yet all you can do it shout on social media. Who cursed you guys? Why cant you hit them back where it hurts so things can change for better? Kill three or four police men on duty and see how fast civilians will be protected. Dumb set of ignorant and gullible people called Nigerians

What is the punishment for taking bribe and extra judicial killings?

Also for intimidating people because of the weapons they carry.

Nigeria is indeed a failed country. A reform made to empower the police to continue to harass civilians is not a reform. It should be amended before it is passed into bill. The rights of the citizens must be considered.

Saraki as gone mad, you enter police with forged documents, collect millions for over 50 years in salary only to have to pay 500K when eventually caught.

I think the only reasonable thing here is that clause 98 cos most Naija police officers are drunkards even before going to work, they will go and high shekpe and smoke weed join. Apart from that clause, the police reform act should be considered a joke. Am beginning believe one afonja that told me yesterday that Our lawmakers are legislathieves.

And how many years imprisonment for Police officers killing innocent civilians?!

Meanwhile,
Dear Nairalanders,
These are the 7 things you need to know about the NIGERIA POLICE REFORM BILL
We always try to educate as time permits...

Here you have it......

1. The establishment of a service-oriented and modern Police that will meet globally acceptable policing standards in a democratic setting.

2. The modernization of the current Police Force (which was conceptualized and established in the Colonial environment to protect colonial interests) with a Police Force that is geared towards protecting and safeguarding the lives and properties of Nigerian citizens.

3. The establishment of guiding principles to ensure effective policing in Nigeria. These principles include efficiency and effectiveness; accountability, and transparency; protection of human rights and fundamental freedoms; and partnership with other security institutions.

4. Methods of dealing with abuse of weapons by police officers. The Bill also ensures that the police and police officers are held accountable in their actions especially in the areas of arrest and detention of persons and searches.
We love this! cheesy

5. Clauses that mandate record keeping by the police and clauses that ensure that citizens are fully protected from abuse by Police officers.

6. The establishment of a Community Police and Boards in all the States of the Federation that will consist of broad representatives of the community and the State to ensure effective, efficient and participatory community policing.

7. The establishment of an independent complaint authority to receive and investigate and effectively deal with complaints against police officers misconduct from the public.

GOD BLESS NIGERIA!

"Clause 96 provides that anyone who assaults a police officer, obstructs or resists a police officer is liable to a fine of N100,000 or six months imprisonment.

Clause 98 prohibits the taking of liquor or intoxicating substance while on duty. Punishment prescribed for such offence is a fine of N20,000 or three months imprisonment."
I think the reverse should be the case, most of them are guilty of Clause 98, And Clause 98 will surely birth Clause 96 Base on their approach, just a logic reasoning.

We will start from somewhere.
This is a good move from the senate.
It is HIGHLY commendable.
Don't get it twisted bro!
It is rather late than NEVER.
Slow and steady we will get to a New Nigeria.

And this was spearheaded, fought for doggedly and passed by a man Saraki whom you and your ilk so love to hate and to further think your people are on Twitter casting mud on the man who brought this idea Segalink and could go on to organise an anti end SARS campaign beats my Imagination.

Yet here you are SMH. You see what is called promise delivery? The man said he'd make sure he passes it before leaving the house and he did whereas your president said he'd stop medical tourism, openly declare his assets, end boko haram in 3 months etc. We all know how all the promises went.

Boko haram sha is "technically defeated" but they still kill soldiers and civilians in their numbers. SMH

What about officer assaulting you as is now been prevalent. This bill is meant to increase and favour police brutality.

Ahhh, was Dino around when this Bill pass? SDM, watch out o! When police knock your door for Abuja don't tell them you are out of town o....it could be ruled as obstruction of justice. Don't grab their uniform either or struggle with them, its assault and carry six months of watery beans. Most important when they chase after you dont climb any tree, just surrender. grin
