Christians, that I know, believe in biblical inerrancy.

Can you imagine the flip flopping. If my memory serves me right, the person posting what you responded to is a woman.

Please get to know more Christians. Not all "believe in biblical inerrancy, and even those you know would not obey quite a lot of the stuff in it.

Some Christians don't even do "believe" since they are aware that there can't be any merit in what even satan does. They'd rather know and understand instead of tremble.

So in this silly logic of yours, you cherry pick what each Bible passage means. Let me take my leave before you make me think I am banging my head on a stone wall.
Phew!!
It was not nice talking with you.
Yes, actually, you do "cherry pick what each Bible passage means" unless you haven't developed your brain yet and need someone to interpret it to you. Jesus cherry picked when he worked on the Sabbath.

When you grow up, you too would stop believing childishly because you should have developed the ability to understand and discern for yourself.

grin grin when you start picking what you wish to obey from a book, you no longer believe in the supremacy of the book. According to the bible, the scriptures are the inspiration of God.

2 Timothy 3:16 KJV
All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:

So if you choose to disobey some commandment, you're disobeying God.

I am a human being for Christ sake! If I tell you I obey all that is in the Bible you must call me a liar because I'd be lying, and just by lying I'm sure we can find a commandment that says I mustn't! Besides, "All Scripture", and Jesus said, "not just the bread".

And note the "instruction in righteousness", as in " how to behave well" - at least going by a plain English definition; and not, "believe", which means the cooking up of nonsense in the head and accepting that it is true without checking the evidence.

Scripture itself is not God. It is an image of God, and we all know how God gets over images.

Actually, no! One is not entitled to one's opinion!

One can believe in one's head what one wants to, but once you've expressed it as an opinion on this here public forum where if anyone writes stupid nonsense that they can't back up with fact and evidence, smarter people will come to show them that's not true and if you refuse to at least consider the evidence they place before you they will just assume you are stupid!

At least that's what ought to happen in a thread with the word "intelligence" as topic or wouldn't you think?

You just pulled that 2 Timothy 3:16 sh!t grin grin. You forgot Revelation 22:19

Revelation 22:19 KJV
And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.

This is how my pastor then used to shut us up if we have questions about some parts of the bible. grin grin

I'm glad you dumped your pastor because the same book has it written in there that there isn't enough paper to write what Christ did not to talk of everything else that might have happened.

Perhaps you were way past his class and your pastor didn't know the answers to your questions, though I doubt it since you seem to have missed that the text you posted says "don't remove from it", and not "don't add to it".

But. Do your eyes not work? Can you not read? Why were you taking the words of your pastor who looked on the image of God to tell you what the image looked like when you could have at least gone to the image yourself if not to God directly?

OP i disagree.

One can be intelligent and be religious, but the thing is an intelligent religious man/woman tends to suspend their intelligence when it comes to their beliefs.

The effects of indoctrination.

I'm calm. And you are incapable of hitting my balls TVSA.

I in fact empathise with you on you not taking your pastor's word and glad you weren't having it. They'd have told you to believe them too and not use your own brain and think! It's a great pity many mislead many astray.

I never had a pastor haven been an atheist from birth, and after reading the book myself I knew some pastors hadn't read it not to talk of understand a word in it apart from the bits that put money in their pockets. But I can't help say something about those who haven't read it then claim to know what's inside it. I doubt one would pass a biology or a history test without personal study so why expect to pass a Bible understanding test on the word of a pastor? And not that anyone should read the Bible, but one should if one claims one worships God or criticises those who do, I would have thought.

I'm calm. Just saying.

"Suspend their intelligence when it comes to their beliefs", lol!

Can't argue that, I guess. Apart from to say a person who "suspends their intelligence when it comes to their beliefs" had very little intelligence to suspend to start with which is why they believed. If they had "the ability to acquire and apply knowledge and skills" they wouldn't be believing because they'd actually know.

I'd say indoctrination is one big evil. It doesn't make for intelligent people.

I read it too, when I was 9-13. I'm reading it again. Listening really when I go on long walks. Means I can listen to a single book over and over again. I'm stuck with Joshua and Judges at the moment and can't get over the fact that the story of the birth of Jesus mirrors that of Samson so closely and the constant repetition drumming it into the head! I'm not surprised many believe it. But I'm finding a lot more to it, a whole lot more I do confess, than belief. Imagine how stupid it sounds someone telling you to believe Alice actually fell through a Looking Glass, or that Okonkwo really chopped off Ikemefuna's head and Things Fall Apart!

The question in my head is, Did Mary read Judges and indoctrinate Jesus, or is it as you say and Samson and Jesus are imaginary figures from some previous template from the past? Then, why go to so much bother with so many gods over so long? I guess I have a long way to go to figure that out.

I'm going to look for a way to share the mp3s of it that I got. Everyone should hear it so they can't be fooled!

You have a point tho but...

We have religious people who are scholars, scientists, engineers and are very intelligent.

I think those intelligent religious people actually knew many of their beliefs are absurd and ridiculous but due to indoctrination they just had to believe, I think they mostly fall into agnostic theists, heretic.
