When we tell them Dangote is not a "seasoned" entrepreneur, they will say it's "bad belle", "jealousy", they will say "what do you have", "are you rich" but isn't it becoming very obvious that all the sectors of of his business where he doesn't have "government induced monopolistic power" keeps packing up. dude said it all. without political backinga dangote would have just been like those ordinary business men out there from day one.its hard to make it and stay through in nigeria without getting hands dirty. the monopoly in cement with no solid competitors really help boost his business accross west africa .i hope he doesnt regret the refinery investment

You and the guy you quoted are both right. But as regards your last statement he cn never regret the refinery project because he has even started enjoying the monopoly already. The only bold entity that can build a refinery in Nigeria is the government and they are shying away from it. IOCs won't try it because of the security level within the country. Theirs is to just drill oil and ship it out.

You are 100 percent correct.

If Government gives anybody Monopoly of a product, tell me why the person will not become billionaire in USD.

Imagine Gov gives you Monopoly of salt or Monopoly of cooking oil etc.

How is that possible or is he selling his share?
I thought, that flour mill is on stock market ?
If yes!
What happened to other people's share?
Does it mean that other share holders will be forced to sell also?

Dangote is simply diversifying his business portfolio. The flour business must still be profitable to attract any investor at all. However it appears a lot is going into the Refinery and Tomato business, so it would make sense to let go of the weaker business to fund the "cash cow".

Some people and their funny analysis, just because Dangote decided to sell a business unit he is not a good business man. Do you know how many business units companies like GE has sold? Or because this sold chivita to Coca-ColaDoes that make them terrible business? Businesses evolve, smart entrepreneur know when to cut their losses and move on.

This is the best time to get his refinery working. I am not sure of which administration gave him the operating license anyway. It is going to shut down a lot of fraudulent importation business and probably drop the price of fuel. It will still be a monopoly nonetheless.

According to H.E Emir Sanusi, the problem of Nigeria is the issue of vested interest. Successive governments have intentionally destroyed the government's capacity just to enrich individuals.

What will it cost the government to set up multiple refineries?
Why does government award contract to private firms instead of equipping the ministries?

Dangote is only enjoying a tradition that has come to stay. Can we ask him not to take advantage of what is on ground? No! Anyone would. So, divesting from a business that does not give him the benefits of monopoly isn't a bad idea after all.

You just opened my eyes to an entirely new perpective, I must admit. However, he still deserves plaudits for building his company to such an extent that its nw in a capacity to negotiate monopoly with government. Learnt the man started out as a retailer....

You are the only one that reason well. Many don't know that divestment is a core strategy of great business men &entrepreneurs. I have an uncle that sold 4 houses out just to build 1 mighty hotel. He never for once regretted selling them.
