Exactly what I was saying. I think xiaomi made the global software not to run on Chinese version when bootloader is locked. So one flashes global firmware on a Chinese version phone and locks the bootloader, the phone will be bricked.

There are cases where the seller flashes global rom, and then lock the boatloader after flashing it. Example was the Note 4x - Though it came with global rom, the boatloader of some were locked, and none got bricked while trying to update via OTA.

YES, i worked on someone's redmi 6 pro some weeks ago, same issue, had to get someone with authorized account for edl flashing before i could get the phone to working state. Safest bet if u want to tinker with roms or if u not sure u have real/shop rom is to unlock bootloader and have a mi account bounded to the phone

Xiaomi implemented this 2nd half of last year, so the redmi note 4 phones were exempted

Locked or unlocked boatloader is not what leads to bricking of phones during update. What leads to bricking is trying to update when a fake rom is flashed on the phone
Not true o... Case in point The announcement made by Xiaomi about not allowing flashing of global rom on Chinese version phones. It happened with The mi 8....
The flashing would brick if bootloader is locked and it won't brick if unlocked.

For them to have flash with global Rom it means the bootloader is unlocked. I am using RN7 flashed with global Rom buy the seller and I updated the phone.

One enter brick land when you have fake rom and you try to update.
Can u try locking ur bl then try to update. cool

This case is different
We're still saying same thing... Locking the bootloader leads to brick especially when flashing global rom on Chinese version. That's why u don't lock it
