A good example of how nobody knows it all ........ In my time this did not exisit . However even if it did , Yes i dont know it all and learn something new everyday hy I don't know if you're doing it just to make everyone feel you're a good person.......... Nairaland is faceless nobody know anybody here . So even if i put a comment that is unliked or attacked , so ?. What value does been liked here add to someone ....lol. you better wake up to real world . Who knows me or you here , or even Seun the owner The only thing you have exhibited so far is to encourage people to take on MBAs without having a career goal in mind. Lol........ show me when i did that or said Someone should do MBA without a career goal in mind. You see how people twist things........ I only said dont discourage people based on limited experience which is not 100 percent reflective of the wider world and how there is not ONLY ONE Pathway to success . Everyone path is different . The One way you know how to climb up , is not the only way and the bible to follow 6 Likes |

LagosismyHome: So, this is enough reason why you shouldn't be attacking me for my comments because recruiting trends during your time is different from recruiting trends now. Not that the attacks affect me but I don't want to be placed in the situation of giving wrong advice to prospective MBAs here. LagosismyHome: That is why I said I don't know your motivations for that. If I knew, I wouldn't be asking that question. It is none of my business, but if you keep attacking me for telling people the truth, it becomes a case for concern. LagosismyHome: I can't go back to start pinpointing areas where you mentioned that. Even if I do that, it becomes a waste of everyone's time. When you tell people to just do an MBA and take whatever job comes their way, please also try to give them career tips on how to get those jobs. My focus is on MBA-type jobs because I will not even encourage anyone to do an MBA and start targeting any job that comes around. My concern is for every candidate to maximize their outcomes from the resources and time spent on their degrees. If I see any candidate going astray, I don't hesitate to mention that and to provide tips for them to solve that. So, whenever you counter me, try to give them best tips too and don't tell them to just depend on hope - using the case of 5% to generalize for 100% of people. 2 Likes |

LagosismyHome: I've never claimed to know it all. And yes, I know a hell lot which is why I have the confidence of sharing my knowledge with people and helping them take the right strategies in their business education. You always talk about this 5 years thing and I've always mentioned that it is not a problem at all. So, don't use that to scare me. I interact daily with people that secured their MBAs in the 80s, 90s and early 00s. I know how the trend works and there is nothing that will happen in the next 5, 10 or 20 years that will surprise me at all. 3 Likes |

I don't like to barge on a conversation that has nothing to do with me. But let me drop this little thought for whom may concern: There's no single path to what we call SUCCESS! If you have seen the Bollywood movie, 3 Idiots, you'll understand. Success is not graduating from top 10, top this, top that school and getting a job with Microsoft, etc. Many of us look at life with dust-tinted lens, and so we see things the way the lens (our erroneous perspective) portray them. I may desire to study in Harvard, Yale, etc and work with a top 10 company on earth, and still not reach that epitome of life, or please my Creator with my existence. I know a lot of guys, both in Nigeria, US, UK, Canada who did not graduate from any top anything. You could not see elite in their experience, but they are pioneer in their fields. Men from Yale, Harvard, HiiT consult them. They shouldn't have reached that height if going to top institution is the foremost or only route to lofty height. I am one of those whom James Cameron's life is inspiration to. Check the highest grossing film of all time, the top 2 movies, Titanic and Avatar, have their root and record-break in James. You need to read his story. The men who laid the foundation for the American prosperity that so many Africans are in the country to enjoy and harness are autodidacts--men who understood that to succeed in life, you need just your mind, courage, commitment and willingness to learn, and God. I may go to the lowest ranking university in the US and still sit and pioneer or trail-blaze for dudes at Harvard and Yale. (And I am on course to do things that will make these institution come to me to ask, "Tell us how you do this?" ). From the inception of Stanford, Harvard, Yale, etc, these institutions look around the world for bright minds; they look for students who have mind and abilities that are not so common. Unfortunately, we give the glory to the schools, and not the human nature that makes them possible. Going to Harvard, Yale, etc cannot make any student a genius; the spirit is innate. But these institutions have huge endowment to fund what a lay person can call ideas turned into research. And no matter what, research always leads you to something--whether same, old conclusion or new one with new insight. The glory is within--in you, in men and women who pass through the top schools, not the system of the institution itself. And this is why every student must be his/her best --in whatever we do, in whatever profession or field we desire to build our career. You can go to a community college and invent things that have never crossed the mind of the most renowned Harvard professor or the best student there. The seed to succeed and trail-blaze is in you. For example, I know a young man in Nigeria who is currently nursing a business idea he once shared with me. If God wills and he launch, he will be the first to take this business in the direction he plans in Africa. No other person has tried what he's planning to do. And by the time he launch, he's likely to rise very fast--especially if people invest and believe in him. So, if someone tells me, "oh, go to top school so that you can reach that height or work at that organization", I will role my eyes and clear my throat. Because you are so young and have little real life experience, you need to read a lot of autobiographies of men and women who reached height that only few men can reach--without going to the most ranking universities or working with top companies in America or wherever. A lot of young men and women have been to Harvard, or Yale, or MiiT, or Cambridge and Stanford. It is their pride! They are proud of themselves, but how many of them have done things students from unknown universities cannot do? Many of the gurus moving the business world did not go to top institutions for their education. If you read the history of world's feats and inventions, you will see the names of a lot of people from nowhere there. So, what is success to you? To go to top school? NO! To make a lot of cash? NO! To have kids in America? Dish that! Success, at least for me, is living a life that advances humanity, a life that heals the ills of human race, a life well-pleasing to my Creator. It does not matter at all if my PhD is from Yale or Stanford; I don't need education from these institutions to become an inventor, a scientist, a renowned doctor, surgeon, a billionaire businessman/woman. Each time I see how the business world move up, down, left and right, I see a mighty influence of CREATIVITY (not an MBA degree from Harvard, Yale, whatever) at the centre of that world! If the environment is enabling, in this century, and that to come, you can achieve the most note-worth feat. You just need yourself, educate your mind, access information that you can innovate with, stretch, have open mind, and be willing to research--whether with your own home-based team or within the institution you're studying. If you are extremely creative and think outside the box, and understand the width and height of your profession, Halleluyah! You can blow with ripples so wide that other continents can feel. You can go to Harvard and still not be able to achieve this. Conclusively, the men and women who will shape the future of humanity will not come from top this and top that; they will not necessarily be people who study at top 10 institutions on earth. They will be people who gaze far into the future and create solutions to future challenges and pioneer; they will be men and women who think outside the box; they will be men and women who give us solutions to world's problems. YES! Well, the last time I check, we don't need a Harvard or Stanford degree to do any of these. To students on this thread in their 20s, currently in the US or in Nigeria for their undergraduate or just graduated, I really want to recommend that you all read: The Authobiography of Benjamin Franklin The Way to Wealth Poor Richard's Almanack Also, watch the documentary movie: The Men Who Built America To whom it may concern, please learn something from this. God bless you! 26 Likes 3 Shares |

fairheart: I just skimmed through the topic sentences in each paragraph to get an understanding of what you're trying to say. What you're saying here is totally different from our discussion. You're saying "You don't need to attend a top school to be successful". Of course! that is true. Some people did not attend colleges and they became successful. I'm saying "If you choose to spend resources and time on an MBA, try as much as possible to select the best strategy that aligns with your post-MBA goal" . We're saying different things so I don't see any relationship with my discussion and your lengthy comment. Thanks all the same! |

It surprised me to see you are the first to comment on it, as if you know I had you in mind as I was writing it. I can tell you've a lot to learn- the same real-word reality some persons here have shared that you often disagree with. Just be open-minded a little, because, believe me, reality is waiting for you. I will talk to you as a brother. You exhibit quality of someone who is genius, but there's huge room within you to learn more than you already know. I think guys need to understand this guy's point of view. He does not sound like he knows it all but he is trying to give a guide on which path to follow. One can leave situations to luck when one finds oneself in it not when one is just planning. When you are planning, you should plan to get the best. Prospective applicants should try to target top schools to stand a better chance of making it faster and pay up if on loan. That is not saying whoever doesn't attend top schools does not stand a chance to make it. He is only giving advice, anyone can choose to follow or ignore. I appreciate everybody's input. You guys are the best. bracelum: 10 Likes |

The raging argument is just another form of “first class is not the only way to make it in life”. In my opinion, the reaction on bracelum’s advice on taking up debt for a lowly ranked program wasn’t necessary. It should never have descended to this level. The advice bracelum gave was very apt in the context. Yes, his talks on elite status can veer off tangent sometimes but this wasn’t one of such times. Please let’s focus on helping each other get to America and leave this “mud fight” 7 Likes |

To be honest with you, I don't really see any of those post and comments as argument; I see them as earnest conversation, expressed from diverse perspective. I even appreciate bracelum opinion, because they were never a waste or useless on this thread. He too knows that. If we are to look at our levels in life, some of us will not be here to contribute. But once in a while, we do need to share our views on these subjects as there are young people who needs to learn from them. We have young men and women in their late 20s, mid 30s, late 30s and so on among us that I strongly believe have deeper real life experience. That is why this thread is very, very rich and thriving. It is not a mud fight at all. We are all learning while at the same time, educate those who need it. More so, those who give out their time to answer questions and give guidelines are still here. No queries have gone unchecked. I hope you understand me? jamanuka: 3 Likes |

Okay, I have read all the brilliant and intelligent discussions going on here but I think it’s high time we understood the logic behind this. Although we all know that individual brilliance and luck play a part in getting a good job after an MBA program irrespective of the school but the truth must be told, this can only happen once in every ten. Graduates from top business schools stand a better chance than the folks from the low ranked ones. If you are looking to pursue a career in management consulting then attending a top 10 MBA program is a must. Does the school you go to decide your fate? Absolutely yes! In fact, the school you attend has a significant role to play in the type of opportunities that come your way. It’s a no brainer! Certain consulting firms recruit from specific schools and the greater the number of firms that recruit from your school, the greater your chances of getting into one. Also, the top schools have developed a good networking relationship with their alumni and these people would always come back to recruit candidates from their Alma Maters. I share the same view with bracelum. I think he speaks from the perspective of an employer and a job market analyst. He’s very blunt and he has been honest about it. If you are planning to go for an MBA, it’s important to target top schools so as to stand a BETTER chance of getting a good job after studies, and most especially if you are planning to take up a loan. This does not mean that attending a top 10 MBA programs automatically cross the ts and dot the is for you, but then having it on your CV gives an added advantage in the job market. 8 Likes |

His account statement is 100% its his Dad personal account and the money Is still intact till date. What could be wrong? And pls check if he received any ban. Thanks

Hello Everyone, I’ll appreciate any feedback on this. I know it’s meant to be intuitive but I just want to confirm the steps for applying for my student visa. In what order do I do the following? Pay the visa fee Fill the form Pay SEVIS Schedule appointment Do I need anything from my i20 for the aforementioned steps? Or I’ll just need it on the day of my appointment? My i20 is currently on its way - it was just shipped. However, I really need to book my appointment ASAP as I have to be in the US by the end of June (I see the currently available appointment is Mid May). Another angle is that my spouse is also applying for F2 on the same day. Any advice is welcome. Thank you. |
