holutee: That's a waste, IOSH managing Safely is for individuals who would not be directly involved in the daily OHS activities like Managers, Supervisors, Foremen, Directors (Directing Safely exists for these group of individuals as well). |

EddyNumerouno: NEBOSH does not indicate your grades on your certificates when you do receive them...except you have a referral which means you don't get a certificate for any of the units that's got a referral. Those with distinctions get 5 certificates One of which indicates the distinction. |

Hello all. I am a fresh graduate who is about to go for service soon. I have heard about HSE and had interest in the field right from my 100 level days. Now, I need advice. Based on the 3 specialties; Health, safety and environment, which is sought after the most in terms of job opportunities? Also, NISP or NEBOSH which will you advice I go for? Or any other accredited body rendering the certificates. Am a graduate of soil science and land management, will I need to go for level 1 or just start from level 2? Lastly, what is the salary structure like for an entry level safety officer/or professional?. |
Re: Any HSE Professionals In The House? by BruncleZuma: 5:35am On Apr 11, 2019 |
DrTI: Just seeing this now, NISP/ISPON is a cheap and effective way of getting your Health and Safety competence up to the level commiserate with most oil company requirements in Nigeria. I cut my teeth on OHS via the ISPON/NISP route before progressing to other OHS courses and certifications. Points to note ISPON Level course can only be used within the confines of Nigeria though they've got MOUs with other awarding/certifying bodies. NEBOSH is a much more sought after qualification and is recognised by 97% of employers worldwide. Due to the dearth in OHS legislations in Nigeria the foremost of which is the Factories Act of 1987, whilst the UK has got 200+ safety related legislations. It makes the NEBOSH the defacto qualification anywhere in the world. |

BruncleZuma: You seem to know your onions in HSE matters Do you mind listing your HSE qualifications? |
Re: Any HSE Professionals In The House? by BruncleZuma: 7:55am On Apr 15, 2019 |
EddyNumerouno:I have a potpourri of qualifications mostly in Data Visualisation and a NEBOSH IGC, NISP, OJTs and the others are not relevant to safety as such. |

Hello, pls I need your candid advise.. I am. A HSE manager in one of the fmcg food and beverage company. I'm caught up between enrolling for iso9001 or iso 45001. As a hse manager, which on the certification is gonna make me sellable since they use the same framework. Can it be easy to do a QMS Even as a hse personnel? |
Re: Any HSE Professionals In The House? by BruncleZuma: 7:05pm On Apr 27, 2019 |
Erums: QMS (9001)deals with quality management; how you carry out processes at work to maintain the best possible quality of product and services for your clients. HSEMS (45001)Deals with the processes involved in making sure you comply with OHS best practices whilst keeping your business, workers and concerned parties safe. For FMCG you need to include HACCP as part of your qualifications in the event you'd want to continues on that career path. |
Re: Any HSE Professionals In The House? by Erums(m): 11:37pm On Apr 27, 2019 |
BruncleZuma: Im. Open to any sector nt just fmcg, but the iso 9001 can i do it instead of 45001 since organisation pursue 9001 certification most times... I really need some guide on this... |
Re: Any HSE Professionals In The House? by BruncleZuma: 5:38am On Apr 28, 2019 |
Erums: Organisations go for 9001 to signal to their clients that they are quality conscious whilst 45001 shows they are following or would follow health and safety best practices. For a HSE practitioner I'd say a 45001 is best as most organisation hand off their QMS to non-safety departments. |
Re: Any HSE Professionals In The House? by Erums(m): 3:14pm On Apr 28, 2019 |
BruncleZuma: Ok but i most organisation also integrates Quality and HSE making Qhse and i see most safety practioners bieng QHSE practioners... Wats the rational behind this? |
Re: Any HSE Professionals In The House? by BruncleZuma: 3:20pm On Apr 28, 2019 |
Erums: It simply means they oversee their company's Quality Management System...others have qualifications from the The Chartered Quality Institute (CQI) as a bulwark and as their continuous professional development. |
Re: Any HSE Professionals In The House? by Erums(m): 3:27pm On Apr 28, 2019 |
BruncleZuma: So what do you advise me... I want to also have some sense of quality but still not an ohs auditor....? Qms is more broad than 45001... So confused right now.. Cos i feel 45001 doesn't sell and organisation's don't pursue it... They pursue QMS thus a hse professional with 9001 would practically sell better than one without or with 45001...i guess I'm right on this? |
Re: Any HSE Professionals In The House? by BruncleZuma: 3:43pm On Apr 28, 2019 |
Erums: It could be centered on just your organisation...45001 is a must have whilst a 9001 is a 'good to have' for OHS practitioners. As an OHS Practitioner I'd say get a 45001 up to lead auditor level as anything else may not be effective if you're looking to search for a job with it. |
Re: Any HSE Professionals In The House? by Erums(m): 4:17pm On Apr 28, 2019 |
BruncleZuma: Does having QMS give an edge over Pure HSE practitioner.. Like in the case, organization needs Qhse. Practitioner? |
