eyizlive:The economy is a setback for most entrepreneurs in Nigeria, and Dangote on the surface is no exception. Though he may also have benefited from the overall lack of control, checks and balances from the government, one can not rule out the almost unarguable fact that anyone who can succeed in a backward society like Nigeria can succeed anywhere else in the world. |

mekaboy: The only reason why Dangote trucks kill people's regularly is because of the massive fleet of trailers that he controls. I repeat, it simply boils down to the massive fleet of vehicles that he owns In America, they have a well developed logistics system and would not need so many trucks. Even if he did, I'm sure the drivers would be better trained 1 Like |

mekaboy:point of correction Dangote is not the richest in Nigeria. A lot of share holders in his company he is a figure head. He doesn't pay tax and import duties. If he start paying taxes like others you will know that he will not be among first 10 in Nigeria 1 Like |

First of all, no one knows for certain whether he would be this wealthy in the US or not. But one thing is certain, there's absolutely no way on God's green earth would he be allowed to monopolize the importation of the country's staple foods in the US as is the case in Nigeria. The US government does not pick and choose winners and losers when it comes to FREEDOM to engage in any business of your choosing. As for the killing of citizens by his trucks in accidents due to either lack of proper maintenance of his vehicles or untrained drivers, he would NEVER get away with that. As the owner, of such fleet of trucks, he owes a duty to other road users to act in accordance with the law and make sure that his vehicles are roadworthy and are operated in a safe manner. Besides, he would be tied up in so many civil suits that he has to make a decision to shape up or shape out. As people know, America is a sue-happy country and many of my colleagues would be happy to bring suits against his company for negligence. 1 Like 1 Share |

thesicilian: He would find it very difficult to survive in the US , you also mentioned the unhealthy support he got from the government , he wouldn't stand a chance in a well organized economy. Success goes beyond taking the "back door" |

Why not? Dangote's wealth is about 5% of Bill Gates and more than half of the World Billionaire are from America. |

vaxx2: Of course. He would fall foul of antitrust laws. For instance, rather than be an importer of commodities like sugar, he'd be a massive commodity exporter in the States, perhaps based in New York City. |

mekaboy: He will. The guy is a hardcore entrepreneur and he would succeed anywhere regardless of the tools available to him. In business it's all about being adaptable....its not the smartest or fastest that survive but those that are most able to adapt to changing conditions. Nigeria has witnessed different political/military leaders, erratic policy changes, foreign companies entering the market to compete aggressively....yet despite all these Dangota has been consistently at the top. Are you going to tell me he doesn't have political enemies? ofcuz he does. He's not the only rich person in nigeria with connections. The guy is just too good In my opinion, I believe he would be a dollar billionaire if he was American. He will adapt to the American standards He's smart, he's adaptable, he's ruthless...he understands how to play the game. He has the ingredients required to conquer any terrain/territory...those attributes remind me of John D Rockefeller 1 Like |

mekaboy: Very valid question considering the power US judiciary wields, i just want you to know that the fact the trucks kill people doesn't mean it's dangote fault entirely, the blame rests on the driver, the maintenance team and other factors... if you put into consideration that dangote plc pays their driver close to 1 million naira annually as bonus for accident free driving apart from their salary then you know that something is wrong somewhere. 1. My first hypothesis is that most of those employed are not evaluated psychologically or dangote company picks unskilled drivers to save running cost which in my opinion should 80% the problem. 2. Rumours have it that it's a ploy by the owner of the company to replenish his wealth. Which i find bizarre but we can't just rule it out considering we're in africa the HQ of the fetish. Whichever way u see it! It's a niggling issue we have to deal with. 2 Likes |
