What's your state of origin? It mostly depends on your state of origin and the competition there in. States like Imo, Delta, Oyo, Osun, Anambra, Kwara, just to mention a few, are very competitive, so you'll have to go extra.
I was also in your plight last year, I pray this year is different for us.
Regards

How do you know the competitive states? Do you have any data?

@dmainman pls help me with an answer to my earlier asked question. Will it be possible to convert the OSS to LSS if I get it? Or will it be wise to let the panel know during the interview that I will like it converted to LSS?

It simply means that you don't even know what you need. I see serious bashing from the panelists. You should apply for LSS now, use your head please. If they allow you, then the objectives of the OSS have been defeated especially that they have a separate LSS category

Hello All,
I really need advise here, especially from those here who understand the interview/process. I applied last year, went for the interview and my interview went very well. I answered all the questions asked regarding my field of study and I answered them correctly and was allowed to talk about my SOP, they were impressed. I still didnot get the scholarship hence my confusion,(even with my awards and publications)
I am tempted to conclude that the candidates may have been selected in a man know man basis, but not yet as I know I cant approach this weeks interview with a defeatist mindset.
Is there anything else that needs to be shared asides the obvious?
Does anyone here have insider info as to the real selection process and what panelist look out for?
If they are to select 3/4 per state, what really makes 3/4 candidates stand out from the lot, because I believe alot of candidates just like me, have good results, awards/publications and all other credentials that have been requested for...so what really is the game changer - asides from knowing someone within the panel?
Your kinsmen must have done it better than you or their research proposal were considered as more important and relevant than yours. Just improve yourself and pray for luck .

I really can’t say. I got it last year and I can say that it was largely fair. Virtually everyone who got it last year had a first class and various academic awards ranging from departmental BGS to varsity valedictorian. A lot really depends on your state of origin. I remember the ES mentioning during induction about how competitive the process was, he said there was a state where they had like 16 or so people with similar scores/similar impressive profiles etc.
It’s all a function of luck really and try to maximise any advantage you have. Last year, most MSc interviewees didn’t have publications so I figured that having a published paper in a major Journal along with my class of degree and academic awards meant my odds were strong and I was proved right.
Just do your best and hope it turns out positive. But I can say definitively that the process was very fair and merit based.
PS-I don’t think where you interview matters, I’m from the SS and I interviewed in Ibadan. My interview was even on the final day of interviews and my time was pretty late, yet it still worked out.
And if you selected Imperial, UCL, Manchester or King’s College, I’ll advise you to apply for admissions now and not wait for PTDF. Those schools are competitive and choosy and would have closed most of their applications by the time PTDF publishes their list. A lot of PTDF scholars had to settle for lesser schools last year because these schools refused to consider their application even with the scholarship.

They take into consideration everything, and you may have been beaten by someone who was just better. Depending on your state. there were candidates with SSCE 7As, 1st class degrees, awards and publications who were also in competitive states, who were not selected but knew those that were and truly the winners were more qualified e.g more prestigious awards, publications, research in industry etc. So just do what you can

Hello, just a follow up question pls. If a lot of scholars had to settle for lesser schools like you said, does it mean you can't defer your program till next year?

If your institution's academic window has closed, then you have a valid reason to defer your award to next year. But if can't wait , you can settle for less provided that it is on the Ptdf list.

Good Evening everyone. I was scheduled for 2nd, of May. However, I would not be available on that date.

Please, would I be allowed to partake in the interview , if I go on a different date, say 30th of April?

I don't think that's possible because those that have experienced the process said ptdf already have the names of each candidates scheduled for their specific dates on their data base, and names will be called out based on the list. But you can give it a try or better still mail them for rescheduling.

Use the numbers/chat box on the PTDF portal to reschedule - tell the operators you want to reschedule, a friend of mine did it, it will change the date for you on the portal, I hope it is still possible now

Some chose to defer while others decided against deferment considering the uncertainty about approaching elections back then. As a result, nearly a third of PTDF UK scholars last year ended up going to Salford because they couldn’t get their top choices.

Ok this year's patter is actually diff from last year.no one wanna see any of your credentials or awards aside what has been uploaded they dont even need ur SOP as they download it themselves. Questions vary but most from all you have uploaded so dont ask anyone what did they ask u. They ask you from the info you uploaded. Done Ibadan center and off to Lag. Goodluckto y'all

Have just finished mine. As the brother before said, the questions asked are more credential related. I gave them my SOP but they didn't even look at it. The questions I was asked are: where do you work?, why do you want to do an msc abroad? Which skul did u apply?, what contribution will you give to Nigeria after finishing the program? Do u want a full or partial scholarship ?
None of the questions are academic related. However, a friend who did before me was asked academic related questions.
Just do ur best and master as much as u can. Know how to defend whatever doc u used during ur application.
Best of luck guys.
Cheers

Here in Abuja. We are already lagging behind in time by 34 minutes.
Don't even know when they will start.

The faces I am seeing here no dey give me joy. Everyone seems over serious. The issue tire me coupled with the fact that I took 30 minutes excuse from the office.
