giles14: CAS mentioned it in the latest documentary, said they are expecting 3, he didn’t give a timeline ( I think NaF isn’t in a rush to get many of those planes because a far better variant block 2/3 with AESA radar will be available soon) but he mentioned that deliveries for super tucano will start at the end of 2020. Thats the real game changer we need right now for COIN and internal security oops, JF17 is more long term. 2 Likes |

NAF CELEBRATES 55TH ANNIVERSARY WITH CEREMONIAL PARADE, AERIAL DISPLAY AS 2 NEW AGUSTA 109 POWER HELICOPTERS ARE INDUCTED As part of activities marking the 2019 Nigerian Air Force (NAF) Day Celebration, the President, Commander-in-Chief (C-in-C) of the Armed Forces, Federal Republic of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari, today, 29 April 2019, inducted 2 new Agusta 109 Power Helicopters into the Service to boost the performance of the NAF’s constitutional roles of defending the territorial integrity of the country, especially the fight against insurgency and other forms of criminality across the Country. The induction was one of the main events of the 55th Anniversary Celebration, which started on 27 April 2019, with Research and Development (R&) Competition/Exhibition and Anniversary Lecture, and came to a climax today at the Eagle Square in Abuja with a colourful and exciting Ceremonial Parade, K-9/Special Forces Display as well as a thrilling Order of Battle (ORBAT) Flypast and Aerial display by some of the platforms in the inventory of the NAF. Speaking at the occasion, the Special Guest of Honour, President Muhammadu Buhari, who was represented by the Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, lauded the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, for his commendable leadership of the NAF in the last 4 years. The President noted that in fulfilling his promise to end the Boko Haram insurgency and other forms of criminality in the country, he made professionalism and capacity building of the Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN) a major security policy thrust of his administration. The President emphasized that training and acquisition of brand new platforms as well as other support equipment for the AFN and other security agencies was intensified. “I have no doubt that the employment of the newly acquired platforms, in addition to the Super Tucano aircraft, which would be delivered in 2022, would add impetus to the combat efficiency of the NAF”, he said. The President, who appreciated the contributions of the NAF in addressing the security challenges of armed banditry/cattle rustling and kidnapping in the North West, said the efforts of the Service, in conjunction with other security agencies, had started yielding positive results, thereby restoring Nigeria's pride and honour amongst the comity of nations. He affirmed that his administration would not relent until every spot within the territory of the country enjoys peace and order. The C-in-C stated further that the NAF has been fulfilling its Constitutional mandate of preserving Nigeria’s territorial integrity through the employment and projection of air power. The President, who was impressed with the display and professionalism put up by the NAF personnel during the Ceremonial Parade, said military parades have been a way of determining soldierly qualities and troops cohesion. “The March-Past was elegantly conducted with precision and the parade was generally colourful. This is an epitome of discipline and excellent military posture, which are hallmarks of a modern fighting force. I am further excited by the aerial display by the NAF airplanes. The displays demonstrate NAF’s commitment to achieving high standards of operational readiness”, the President remarked. He acknowledged the roles played by the NAF in the last General Elections by airlifting electoral materials as well as aerial surveillance, which contributed to the success of the elections. While delivering his welcome address, the CAS noted with nostalgia the 55 years of the existence of the NAF which had been very eventful. He said that the Service had been confronted with a myriad of challenges and had surmounted them all, progressively maturing in the process. The CAS stated further that the NAF had grown in size, spread and equipment holding, all in a bid to fulfill its statutory obligation of protecting and defending the territorial integrity of Nigeria from the air. According to him, “The growth of the NAF since the inception of the Service has been particularly outstanding. From having only a few trainers and transport aircraft in the early years of the Service, the Nigerian Air Force currently has an impressive ORRBAT comprising diverse aircraft with capabilities to perform a wide spectrum of missions. We have also continued to build upon the foundations laid by our noble predecessors by reactivating several aircraft that were hitherto grounded; acquired and inducted various platforms into service and increased the strength of Service personnel by 7,500 airmen/airwomen and 400 officers. Additionally, 2 new commands and 2 staff branches were established to meet the evolving security challenges we are faced with”, he said. The CAS added that the NAF had also established additional units spread across the nation in response to evolving security challenges and had constructed and upgraded existing schools, hospitals and other infrastructure including 2 Reference Hospitals to attend to the welfare of personnel and their families. “Furthermore, the gap between force projection and force protection capability has been substantially bridged with the training of more than 1,000 Special Forces. These personnel have been deployed as part of the Base Defence forces to deal with the threat to our bases and to support Internal Security Operations in various troubled spots across the country, especially in the North East, North Central and North West, respectively. The current status of the Nigerian Air Force is a testament to the continued and sustained efforts by our predecessors since the establishment of the Service”, he stated. The CAS thanked the President for his continued show of uncommon commitment to meeting the needs of the NAF and improving the capacity and equipment holding of the Service. The Anniversary Celebration, with the theme “Building Capability for Defence of Nigeria’s Air Space While Responding to National Security Imperatives”, ends today with a Gala/Reunion Night. NAF ROUNDS OFF 55TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION WITH GALA NIGHT, REWARDS GALLANTRY, EXCELLENCE The activities marking the 55th Anniversary Celebration of the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) were rounded off last night, 29 April 2019, in a colourful Anniversary Dinner/Gala Night held at the NAF Officers’ Mess and Suites Kado, Abuja. The event, which featured cultural dances, comedy and live music, also served as a forum for the NAF to reward the gallantry of some its personnel, recognize the outstanding performances of 2 deserving individuals as well as present prizes to the winners of the 2019 NAF Research and Development (R&D) Competition held on 27 April. Tactical Air Command (TAC) clinched First place in the R&D Competition, while Air Training Command (ATC) and 041 Communications Depot Shasha placed Second and Third, respectively. One of the officers rewarded for gallantry was Flight Lieutenant (Flt Lt) Ilu Yusuf, who had flown over 785 combat hours on the Mi-35 Helicopter Gunship, playing very key roles during various operations in the Northeast (NE) Theatre of Operation, notably during Operation DEEP PUNCH that led to the capture of Camp Zero from the Boko Haram Terrorist group. The second award for gallantry went to Flt Lt Muadab Getso, a seasoned fighter pilot who has logged over 1,000 combat flying hours on the Alpha Jet, participating in several operations in the NE. It is noteworthy that Flt Lt Getso had carried out the seamlessly executed Alpha Jet solo aerobatic performance during the Aerial Display at the Eagle Square earlier that day. The recipients of the awards for excellence were Flt Lt Efe Egbujiobi and Master Arotiba Seunara Peter, from Air Force Secondary School, Ikeja. Flt Lt Egbujiobi, while on United Nations (UN) Mission in Congo DRC, not only performed excellently well but also, added value by undertaking skills acquisition, economic empowerment and enlightenment programmes as well as quick impact projects to alleviate the plights of the host communities in her area of deployment, at her own personal expense, for which she was given commendation by the UN. Master Arotiba Peter, on the other hand, got the award for emerging the best overall candidate in the 2018 May/June West African Senior School Certificate Examination in the whole of West Africa with 9 A1s in Mathematics, English Language, Biology, Tourism, Further Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Civic Education and Economics, beating over 1.9 million other candidates who sat for the examination. In his remarks, the Special Guest of Honour (SGOH), Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha, commended all the past Chiefs of the Air Staff (CAS), who had at one time or the other contributed to the success story of the Service, while also expressing his admiration for the current CAS for the strings of successes recorded in recent times by the Service. He added that the revolutionary development of the NAF into an operationally efficient Service through quality training of its manpower as well as the reactivation of equipment and platforms through numerous R&D efforts lent credence to the quality and efficiency of leadership in the Service. He also used the opportunity to congratulate the officers who were specially recognized at the event and urged them to sustain their devotion to duty so as to ensure that the NAF continues to succeed in all its endeavours. The SGOH reiterated that,, although the NAF Day 2019 Celebrations provided an avenue for the NAF to showcase itself to the entire world, most Nigerians already understand the sacrifices and efforts of the Service towards ensuring that law-abiding citizens are safe to go about their daily endeavours without fear. He noted that the activities held during the Celebrations would go further to convince more Nigerians that public funds were being well utilized to ensure their safety and security. Earlier, the CAS, Air Marshal Sadique Abubarkar, who welcomed dignitaries to the event, recounted that the NAF had gone through remarkable developments over the years. He noted that the Service has no doubt lived up to and, in some instances, even exceeded expectations in the discharge of its responsibilities. These achievements, he said, were among the reasons for which the Gala Night was put together. Air Marshal Abubakar also used the opportunity to acknowledge the support of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, President Muhammadu Buhari for his commitment to improving the NAF platforms/equipment holding. Aside from the fleet of Super Tucano aircraft the Government recently ordered and paid for, the CAS noted that the NAF had taken delivery of a variety of platforms, especially helicopters, since the inception of the current Federal Government administration. These, he said, included the 2 Agusta 109P inducted earlier in the day, as well as 4 Mi-35M Helicopters, 10 Super Mushshak trainer aircraft and 2 Bell-412 Helicopters, amongst others. SuperSixSeven: You don't understand the game yet bros? It's another igirigi drama, plenty PR hype, no real tech capability to do. 7/8 of parts of vehicles shown in NA videos claiming made in Nigeria are imported, we have no steel industry and as Trumpeter said, means we have no country. The Proforce MD seems not dancing to music played for him by NA, his ARA was accepted because of scarce dollars to import, listen to his videos of complains, NA no look his side 2012, but now NA will buy ARA because its naira not dollars. Every new army boss does his own made in Nigerian army APC pet project Those who know better told us igirigi was a game in 2012 but we argue with them say no, shebi today now our eyes don clear. Vehicle production is heavy industry, visit Nnewi see massive hi-tech factory China set up for innoson to assemble not make o, just assemble CKD of civilian vehicle not to talk of military APC. NAVMC cant build 1/8 of an APC, no army is known to have skills and machinery to pull off such stunt. At best NAVMC succeeds with that ATV buggy if Chinese manufacturer keeps exporting CKD for NAVMC assembly. You forgot Nigeria enjoys fooling itself by perambulating in circles Kikikikikiki 4 Likes
