Hello AAESO,

You should update your passport number in your DS160 if necessary - otherwise, no, you do not need to complete another one.

AAESO:

Hello adlerian,

You should be able to book a student visa appointment if you are using the new receipt number. However, if you having difficulty with that, please book the F1 appointment as soon as you are able, and if that is not early enough, you can request an emergency appointment and describe your situation in the notes. If you have any difficulty with that option, please write back here and we'll try to work something out.

adlerian:
Hello USMissionNGRA

I booked a 221G follow-up appointment for a B1/B2 visa application last year for a date in May 2019. I canceled this appointment last week because I wanted to book an appointment for an F-1 visa after making a new payment. I could not make this new booking because the portal restricted me to booking only the 221G follow-up appointment. I have had several correspondences with the CGI team. The final response I received was I needed to proceed with the 221G appointment; the only time I can make a fresh application is after one year of my 221G issuance.

The May date cannot be reinstated and the interview date option available for the 221G follow-up is in September 2019. The school's resumption is in August 2019.

What can I do?

Thanks.

@USMissiontoNigeria, my husband is on F1 visa in the USA.. but I am still in Nigeria, his DSO in school issued F2 i20 for me in january which encompasses his graduate assistantship funding for spring semester
I plan going for F2 interview this july.. which is summer semester and there is no activity going on in summer and he doesn't have assistantship in summer too, do we have to request for a new i20 from his DSO or the one issued in january is okay?

Hello Ishowdels,

Examples of significant changes include, but are not limited to: change in marital status, change in employment status, change in travel history, etc. Professional, cultural, and social factors include: the kind of job you have, your salary, how long you've been working, membership in professional associations, your relationship status and number of children, travel history, etc. We are not looking for any one particular answer or any one kind of person - rather, you should be able to demonstrate your ties outside of the United States through a combination of professional, cultural, and social factors.

Applicants are very rarely issued or refused based on their answer to one question. The interviewer had simply gathered enough information to reach their decision after asking about the applicant's father's travel history.

Ishowdels:

Good morning visa officer,

1.Please exactly does significant changes mean based on the following .Does it mean the person has to do somethings or what

2.Professional, cultural and social factors;Does this mean having a travel experience for those that do not have or what exactly please

3.Under what factor does previous travel fall or why will a student be asked if his father has travelled and denied after that

I got this from US website http://www.ustraveldocs.com/ng/ng-niv-typefandm.asp

The current wait time for Dropbox is 5 weeks. If you are asked to come in for another interview, the wait time will be longer. If you need your passport back before then, please email LagosDropboxReturn@state.gov.

Good day. Great job you are doing here. I have a dilemma in respect of my date of birth. I recently discovered that I was born 2 years after my previously "known" birth date. As would be expected, my passport carries the "incorrect" date and has beeb ussd ro obtain visas and travel to the US several times. I assume that the continued use of this passport will amount to misrepresentation. Therefore, I would like to correct this error on my international passport by getting an affidavit and a new int'l passport. Will a change in birth date due to an inadvertent error earn me a ban?

NOTE: I am only trying to determine if to continue to use my passport as it is or to adopt my actual date of birth aa recently discovered.

Good morning.

I have a US visit visa issued since last year. I however do not have any compelling reason to visit the U.S. If i don't will i still be able to qualify for drop box for my renewal? I have been travelling to the U.S almost yearly since 2010.

Thanks for your anticipated response.

Hello titibaby,

If there is a material change in your name or date of birth without an obvious explanation (e.g. changing your name from your maiden name to your married name), it might raise a few flags. If you are absolutely certain that your new date of birth is the correct one, yes, you should update your passport to reflect that. When your current visa expires, you should schedule an appointment to renew your visa in person rather than through Dropbox - whoever looks at your case will almost certainly have some questions for you, and it will help you avoid a longer wait time if you just come to the Consulate directly. Please bring whatever evidence you have to support that your new date of birth is the correct one.

Hello tessytessy,

Yes, you still qualify to renew through Dropbox, but there is no way to predict whether you might be asked to schedule a new interview. As we say to all applicants regardless of their circumstances or situations, please do not make any travel plans until your visa is in your hand. This allows for processing delays and, specifically for Dropbox applicants, the possibility that you may be requested to schedule another interview.

Hello USMissionNGRA,

For doctoral students currently on F1 visas and who often require travel in and out of the US for academic conferences. How can they apply to renew their visas in Nigeria with the current 5 week wait periods for Dropbox? Since a wait time of 5 weeks would be a huge disruption to their academic program.
Are there other options or considerations available?

Hello adlerian,

You should be able to book a student visa appointment if you are using the new receipt number. However, if you having difficulty with that, please book the F1 appointment as soon as you are able, and if that is not early enough, you can request an emergency appointment and describe your situation in the notes. If you have any difficulty with that option, please write back here and we'll try to work something out.

Hello USMissionNGRA,

Thanks for the response. I have tried to work on the options you provided above. Please see the feedback below:
1. Using the new receipt number, I am still unable to book the F-1 visa appointment as the only available button on my profile is the "schedule follow up appointment" button
2. Booking the F1 as soon as I am able to will require me to schedule the 221G which I tried. I tried scheduling the 221G appointment for an earlier date I was presented with. I was faced with an error message. The reason based on feedback from the US visa customer rep. was I had exceeded my 221G appointment cancellation limit (I cancelled because I assumed I needed to do that to schedule the F1 visa). I made a payment on Friday last week for another B1/B2 interview appointment as advised from the feedback. I was unable to apply this receipt anywhere on the portal. I have emailed and called the US visa customer service several times and a solution is still being awaited on applying the receipt.
3. The emergency request option does not appear anywhere on my profile (see attached screenshot)

What can I do?

Dear VO,

I would like to know, the possible reasons for a life time bar from visiting the united states, and hoe to go about clearing this bar.

In a case where the visa Officer, did not give room for explanation before given her judgement.

Also, can one write formally to the united states embassy to further explain with supporting documents.

Thank you
Re: U.S. Non-immigrant Visas: We're Listening Pt. 3 by askary: 1:02am On May 11, 2019
Hello VO

Kindly proffer advice to the following.

Background - A drop box was made for a B1/B2 Visa application. Applicant recently tracked the visa application and the message had changed from "Received at the US Consulate" to "Administrative processing". Also, he notes on checking his CGI profile that new dates had been opened on the page to schedule a 221G appointment with the nearest date being more than 3 months away.
Applicant's reason for the B1/B2 application was to attend a short 5-day course for professional development in the US and possibly spend some 3 days to do some shopping as part of his vacation scheduled for this Month (May 2019). Invariably this means that the intended short course and travel dates indicated on the DS160 form filled would have elapsed by the time the applicant makes appearance at the Embassy after getting to schedule the nearest available 221 appointment date opened on the CGI platform which is in September 2019;

Questions:

1. Prior to appearing for the 221G appointment in 3 months time, should another DS 160 form be filled to indicate a future date of intended travel? Already, the course coordinators of the executive short course in the US have been duly notified of applicant's inability to participate on the May course and applicant has been given the opportunity to re-enrol for the upcoming October course.

2. Please advice, is there any need to still appear for 221G appointment if the applicant does not wish to enrol for the October short course offered? Applicant tries to avoid international travels during Winter .

3. Will applicant still be eligible for a drop box application when making another B1/B2 applications within the drop box eligibility period if he did not proceed with this 221G appointment?

4. Applicant passport has not been returned, and he has not received any notification on passport collection, also there is no information available for the passport number in the passport tracking status. What happens next?

5. In the event that applicant makes the 221G appointment in September without filling a new DS160 with new intended dates of travel , if his adjudication will be based on the information of the initial DS-160 submitted which indicated an intended travel date in May? Wouldn't that be an obvious reason to expressly deny applicant?

Thank you for your time. I look forward to answers to the above 5 questions.

Hello olaboy001,

We do not require our applicants to be invited to the United States. In fact, if you provide an invitation letter, the officer will almost certainly decline to view it. Please visit https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/us-visas/tourism-visit/visitor.html for more information on what documents we require.

Hello buddwizer,

The wait time for F1 visas is significantly less than the wait time for B1/B2 visas. We make every effort to ensure that students can make their program start dates on time. If you are having difficulty scheduling an F1 visa application at a time that works for you, please use the "Request an emergency appointment" option on the CGI website.

Hello green411,

You would have been told the reason verbally and in writing at the time of your interview. You cannot "clear" the bar, but if you are deemed eligible for a waiver, a consular officer may make an application for one on your behalf. You would need to reapply for a visa in order to do this, and there is no guarantee that the officer will either support a waiver request or that the waiver will be granted. You are welcome to write to the Consulate, but it will not change the outcome of your interview.
