Some say, it has two answers. Some say it's the mother who's drunk, and yet some say it's the daughter who's drunk.

A mother is the subject Beats up her daughter, which is the object Because she was drunk, She is a subject also. So, the mother was drunk. You don't beat a drunken person because he/she doesn't know what's happening around him/her, but a drunken person could beat a person in his/her sane mind. 5 Likes |

They were talking about the mother here na. If i beat you because you were drunk That's bullshit! She beat her daughter. Why? Because she was drunk. Simple! |
Re: English Gurus: Who's Drunk Here?? (see Pic) by tosinosam(m): 4:58pm On May 01, 2019 |
Chenzee:Wonder why these people are confused. The sentence itself gave us the reason why the action was taken. Just like ... He beat up his son because he was angry. Why did he beat up his son? Because he was angry. Why did she beat up her daughter? Because obviously she was drunk (daughter could be 20 and above so...) |
Re: English Gurus: Who's Drunk Here?? (see Pic) by Nobody: 5:18pm On May 01, 2019 |
tosinosam:"Drunk" is an adjective which qualifies d noun,so the mother is drunk, that was d reason she beat up d daughter |

The mother is the drunk one here. If it were the daughter, the sentence could have been "because she got drunken." 1 Like |

The sentence itself is very wrong. No use of comma. |
Re: English Gurus: Who's Drunk Here?? (see Pic) by mu2sa2: 7:11pm On May 01, 2019 |
If it's the daughter that's drunk, a comma should be placed after daughter: "A mother beats up her daughter, because she was drunk". If it's the mother that's drunk , the sentence will have to be modified e.g " A drunk mother beats up her daughter" |

Re: English Gurus: Who's Drunk Here?? (see Pic) by Prosper91(m): 7:52pm On May 01, 2019 |
To remove the lexical ambiguity, report the speech by putting who was drunk in bracket thus- because she (the mother)was drunk or on the other hand because she (the daughter)was drunk |
