Hello guys, when coming, hold at least 1000 euro. Its going to take about a week to open a bank account here and also you will need to get a semester ticket to move around to get stuff, this is around 170 euro (I missed my orientation week so I didn't know about this ticket, for 1 week I was enjoying free ride on buses, thinking it was free. I almost got caught a certain day, It was then realized). When you are caught by control the penalty is 60 euro. In the case you don't have enough cash to pay for semester ticket yet , you can pay directly to the bus driver around 1 - 3 euro per journey (just tell the driver where you are going, he will tell you the amount).

Also carry enough clothes when you coming. Its not as cheap as you think. I too miss eko market

Apps you might need :

1. DB navigator : for train

2. Google translate app : for translating your german documents to english (very very handy)

3. Know the region you are in and download the transport app for that region: the app shows you the time your bus is going to arrive and bus stops. (makes life easy)

you can download myVRN app for (mannheim, heidelberg, ludwigshafen)
VVS app for (stuggart, essliengen)

If you want to do side jobs here, try to learn german before coming if not just mange your 720 euro.

GOODNEWS : Germany new immigration laws has given equal rights to both native German and foreign students/Job seekers i.e there is no longer a priority to check if a citizen or EU national might be able to take the job.

Landing post

Braket

Well I flew Ethiopian airline and they flight was top notch and always ahead of schedule.(except the fact that the tyre of one of my luggage was destroyed but I was way overweight no do I blame them no grin)

A friend flew emirates and he regretted it. Why, the flight was very long to Frankfurt and the food served were shitty. He starved for over 15 hours.

Whereas Ethiopian airline food was superb because they served rice cheesy

Kenthumphz response to Braket post
Well, the only regret I see here is the food. Do I blame him. Me too, been the bush man wey I be, I have prepared for that. After all, can't a brother fast in peace again.... lol.

But as for the experience of the flight, my brother leave am, it's way better than Ethiopian. By the way, cost wise, Ethiopian Airways and Air Maroc cost more for August. They are only cheap during September.

Finally, the determinant of which flight to go with is always the cost first, duration of trip. Experience is the last. As for me, Emirates ticks all for me for late August.

I always tell people, come here legally and u will regret staying in Nigeria.

I will rather say God bless Germany than mentioning Nigeria.

Going on europe tour as if you are going to Ikeja.

Access to free education, plenty student job( averagely €1500=650k per month after tax), many easy way to become a german citizen, free semester ticket( you can travel a whole state 247 without paying kobo.

From nursery school to PhD education in Germany is 100% free for everyone.

Plenty free loan if u want oo....atleast u can get a credit card upto 6k euro=2.5m naira without collateral even as a student, if you are working full time here, plenty loan u can access at a very very low rate from mortgage to car of any brand

Please where can one get this in Nigeria?

Who ever tell you to stay back in Nigeria is your village member holding u back.

Theres no comparism between heaven and hell fire.

God bless Germany.

Getting Job is easy if you can speak and understand the German language.

Germans re not open to strangers, so socializing is hard. But if you could have one German friend then you re good.

Also you re only allowed to repeat a particular exam twice otherwise one would be Exmatrikulated.

Life as a student is ok, only if you can find balance between your job and studies.

Also German ladies no dey craze about African guys ooo( e hard to find German babe and them dey complicated)

From sakasitay

So, I stumbled upon a YouTube video about life in Germany and have decided to share this website - where you can practically be guided on price indices across different cities in Germany. These prices go from rent, utilities, internet, transport to feeding, cinema tickets, foodstuff and all other stuff.

Thought it might help some people:

Some useful tips from Princejck

Those who re coming this winter...make unahhh take time enjoy Nigeria food oo..cuz food here no get taste especially chicken and porkmeat also eat enough fish cuz fish here cost, if possible carry dried one from Nigeria come.

Buy jeans from Nigeria, the cheapest jeans here nah from 40 euros and even that one nah Angebot u go find hamm.

If u don’t know anyone and u re planning to stay in hotel, I will advice u to look for Pension Zimmer or jugendherberge they re cheaper than hotel pending when u get apartments

Install Deutschebahn App and also google map on ur phone u will always need them.

If u buy any bottle or can drink always check if it’s Pfandflasche cuz if u throw it away u re throwing 25cent away..lol

400 euro seems small, in some schools students fee is up to 300 euro. Plus other expenses you will have to handle before accessing BA funds. 1000 euro should be perfect

€400 is not small

Accommodation would have been sorted out before leaving Nigeria.

You only need to obtain the semester ticket for easy movement which depends on the city.

With proper management, €400 is okay

Phucado words of advice

I wanna advise the prospective #teamwinter students to contact friends, nigerians and africans who are already in your prospective schools using facebook, linkedin etc. It will help you a lot and give u a lot of first hand information about your school and the city.

The guy who helped me to pay my uni-assist fees and mailed me the receipt is a student of my school in germany. I just transfered the naira equivalent into his account in Nigeria. He saved the the #4000 telex charges for transfering money.

I've not met him in real life but he has assisted me in so many ways. Told me about accomodation and the easiest way to go about it. He calls me if there's any development. That's how God has used him to be of help to me.
Even a guy in the second school. I found most of them through linkedin. I've sampled opinions of different students in the schools and it has helped shapen and sharpen my mind on expectations and decision making. I also urge you guyz to do so. Search the dudes and divas out.

He's right, one needs at least 1000 euros to use for expenses until they can be able to access their BA.

And you forgot that finding an apartment is a herculean task if you are heading to a big city. Before you can get your semester ticket, you have to pay for it and it's not cheap.

SooCute’s Advice as of Winter 2018

I'd count it "Sinful" to migrate to DE and completely ignore this house that made me. This is my base.
Yes i'm still in my first month anyway. So i'm pretty new here.

I came here because i got a few stuffs to share...just for those who didn't know already.

1. When you enter here with Block Account, Anybody that is legal and works in Europe can give you Support letter for preceding extensions/renewal . Yes. You don't necessarily need someone who lives and works in DE for that.
NB: This is the case in Bayern where i study and live....

2. Before you come here......L E A R N G E R M A N. Not as if you will die if you don't.
But imagine being hungry and don't know how to order for food?
Imagine not being able to read signs like "Entrance and Exit, Rauche oder nicht Rauche?" the list is endless...
Imagine being in a train but don't know how to tell someone to remind you when you get to your station? Because the "computer" announcing Bahnhoffs says it in German!
Imagine stepping on someone but can't say "tut mir sehr leid"?
Imagine missing your way (Which is common) and don't know how to ask or take directions? You can't yell bro..
Imagine going to grocery stores and don't even know how to ask where you can find certain thing? Or you can't read or guess-read what's on label? Your mom wouldn't be there to savage. But once you can say "Entschuldigung Sie" a typicall Deustche will reply "Bitte" then you wrap German. It might take a little for you to hear their own German, but at least, you can express yourself with your crude german and they can understand you....that's communication grin

3. Most of the time, the people that discriminate you (Racist) are not Germans. I can bet my rent on this. Other nationalities who came as you came do! Germans are pretty simple people from my experience. They are supper warm and welcoming....Always asking "Was kann ich fur Sie tun? Brauchen Sie hilfe?

4. If you are like us that have finished school many years and starting over....mehn....start reading again. Re-activate your brain. I mean, read reasonable stuffs that really revamps your brain. Not some Instagram posts. You need to come up to par. It will help you when you come here.

5. Normally, what's actually different is "Method". The lecturers here are fast...kinda. But you'll be fine trust me. If a dumb ass like me can answer questions in Maths, Physics and Statistics classes (Even though i had a HND in Mechanical Engineering from home) while those whites mop at me, then you should do better. Key: Don't be intimidated, don't be proud either. All of us de hustle.

6. If you are coming here with SL, Come with money that can sustain yo for some months, couple of winter suits (If you are coming during winter) and food!
Yes. I regretted buying clothes from Nigeria. It's personal. Though a bit expensive (Even though there are cheap stores), stuffs here are of standard. But imagine me coming here with no single maggi cube? I burnt cash already on food since i came.
It will take you little time to discover the economic way of feeding here especially if you are like me who doesn't have someone here to show me the way....

7. Be nice. Don't spoil the reputation of Nigerians. If you do, they will reduce our slots and God no go forgive you.
Here.....things work. The system is organized and kinda of ordered.
Germans are courteous and sehr nett. Don't come here and block another person future abeg. Don't be notorious. Its nobody's business you Say?, Hell no! It's our business how you behave. Save the innocent Nigerians reputation.

8. Studying Engineering and trying to hammer at the same sequence is almost too hard. You go fail for class. Take it easy. Don't come with high-false-hopes of "Once i enter, i am hammer grin".Tell those you borrowed from to chill a while biko.
What you can earn here is about 450 Euro per Month which can cater for your basic needs...as poor man wey i be. Once you finish and land a job.....then yo can Ronaldo all you can.

9. Get prepared for the hustle. It's not what you see in pictures. Get your mind prepared. Come prepared. No one has your time here. No one cares about your show-off. Even the Mercedes that dropped me from train station to my place was intimidating. Cars are toys here unlike in 9ja.

10. About chasing women or men.... well, i haven't seen any woman yet that can take my baby's place. As long as it lasts...i will try and control myself. Ain't marrying any shitty white wife even though i am still single. It's my choice and its very possible to stay sane. Girls will kinda be nice to you (what we call green light in Nigeria) but that does not necessarily translate to them rushing you.. nahhhh. But sha if you don't have a babe down here that loves you and you love back...don't commit yourself yet. Reason is...once you land here, your taste for woman go change and almost any 9ja babe you toast with plus+four+nine dialing code go gree... u see? But sha the winter is real mehn....Chukwunna biko!

10. Pls share your experience here. Let us have many Nigerians here....the more the merrier!
I didn't have anyone pick me from Frankfurt....so that was the first point of "This is Lagos" in Germany.
I had to find my way anyway... imagine i couldn't say poo in german? habatically grin grin grin
I learnt german on my own anyway... i got books and audios. Don't use "Geothe is far" as an excuse. Find someone to speak to. Ignore translators...(i have my reasons.) It's better to start learning by speaking nonsense than using translators.. find someone who can learn with you or speak with you.
Find and join German learners group on Facebook,...use your spare times productively instead of watching unclad women on Insta or trying to impress your Hushpuppi (for ladies) or Kimkardianshan (for guys) with poses and posts (I am saying this to those whose passion is strong about migrating and surviving here). Set your priorities and take it one at a time. Surely when you come here...you will change..positively (maybe). You'd become more simple and more open...

Its really irrational to blame Nigerians. Youths especially. What we are or have today as Nigerians was what was made available to us and what we were exposed to. Things are really shitty in Nigeria. Come here and refine your mind. Come here and become better. Nigerians are strong people. We've learned to survive the impossible. I can't imagine spending about 30years of my life only in Nigeria and Africa....

You have the right to thrash this....It's 100% your freedom.

Alles gute.

SooCute broke it down with sincerity, free from pessimism. Set your priorities right; balance study and work. To the unreasonable ones- Try not to exceed the work hours allocated to you. Don't make the Government of Germany blacklist Nigeria because of your greed. Graduate first then you will have unlimited access to any job of your choice" Point number 7 is an eye opener.

Alles gute.

Keep it coming boss smiley

@emboldened i have known GERMANS ARE RACIST is just a stereotype and there is no iota of truth in it

Racism/language is the major reason why most people prefer America but ask them if there is no discrimination in the USA.

May we all succeed in DE

€1000 is more than enough o

I believe the required amount needed is directly proportional to the city the person is heading to.

€400 = small cities

€1000 = big cities smiley

Honestly, I'm not going to argue with you on this. Whether big or small city. 400€ isn't just enough.

You need to pay your rent and buy semester ticket. Semester ticket cost up to 300. I paid more than 350 this semester.

Paying your rent also means that you might have to pay security deposit of about three months. Let's say the rent is 250€. 250*3 is 750.

So how's 400 enough in this case?.
We need to be realistic here.

So please tell me how 400 is enough in this case.

I agree with you. I'm not in the position to answer the emboldened until my body meet my spirit in DE grin

I feel the amount of money you are going to spend in Berlin/Munich will be high compare to Kiel for example

€1000 is too much. I know what am saying.

Some people hustled out the substantial amount required for BA and now, they need to get €1000 which is about 400,000 plus.. The hustle is real sis. You sef sabi wetin i dey talk

I'm not arguing with you sister. Just saying the fact. You are right as well but can you suggest cities that won't require €1000
