The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Kano Zonal Office on Tuesday, April 30, 2019 arraigned the duo of Imoniaye Rona Daniel (a.k.a Richard willbur) and Anigbo Emmanuel (a.k.a William Manson) before Justice P.H. Mallong of the Federal High Court Kaduna on a five-count charge, bothering on internet Fraud. Gistvic Reports.

Trouble started for the defendants, following intelligence report, received by the Commission, which alleged that some criminal internet activities were being carried out by the defendants.

Some of alleged fraudulent activities include the cloning of computer IP addresses by changing same to falsely indicate that the computer was being operated in the United States of America while actually it was in Nigeria.

Upon raid on their apartment, several computers that included HP laptop, MacBook Pro Apple Laptop and one external hard drive were recovered. Gistvic Reports.

Count one of the charge reads, ''That you Imoniaye Rona Daniel (a.k.a Richard Willbur) and Anigbo Emmanuel (a.k.a William Manson) on or at about 23rd October, 2018 in Nigeria, within the jurisdiction of the Federal High Court Kaduna, conspired among yourselves to commit an unlawful act to wit: with intent to defraud, procured for use, a computer programme called ''windscribe software'' to change your IP address location on the Internet from Nigeria to United States of America and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 27 (b) of the Cybercrime (Prohibition, Prevention, etc) Act, 2015 and punishable under Section 28 (1) of the same Act."

The defendants pleaded not guilty to all the charges against them.

In view of their not guilty pleas, the prosecution counsel Michael Ojo applied for a trial date and prayed that the defendants be remanded in prison custody.

Defence counsel I.C Ekpunobi, however, prayed the court to rather remand them in EFCC custody, pending the hearing of their bail applications.

Justice Mallong adjourned hearing on the bail applications to May 15 and 16, 2019, and directed that the suspects be remanded in EFCC's custody. Gistvic Reports.

I was watching an English Premiership game the other day, and I saw Nord VPN ads run across the display boards in the stadium. Big VPN companies advertise on so many well-known online and offline platforms, which shows that their services are entirely legitimate. The supposed privacy and anonymity offered by VPN services is a democratic right that Internet users are entitled to, and that is the basis for it.

The main purpose of a vpn is for security reasons, followed by ad blocking and then privacy reasons.

Even if you use a different identity online, it’s not a crime.

There are websites i visit that require i sign up, if I’m just there to test the site and see what they’re offering, i use my online identity, rather than use any of my personal emails because the moment you enter your email, it is added to a database of emails used for email marketing and then you start getting hundreds of unwanted advertising emails.

I insist there are a lot of useless lawyers in this country. Law school will just be graduating useless lots. If you hire a good lawyer, I doubt this case will make it to court as frequently as it does.

Have you all noticed that all the alleged yahoo boys that are arraigned by efcc all plead guilty and then you’ll hear their lawyers pleading for leniency because the accused has repented?

And then effcc will just come to your house to carry you at 4am because of intelligence report (which is simply one of your neighbors pouring sand sand in your garri by calling efcc and reporting you at least 3 consecutive times) and you won’t ask to see a search warrant? And even an arrest warrant?

And if none is produced at time of arrest, a good lawyer would know how to use that to your defense
