UNILAG should be okay

Yes but it depends on the dept.

I did my masters last year February and my set graduated this January.

We had delay in my dept, and the strike affected us hence our list couldn't meet up with the graduating list.

But I'm officially done. All less than a year

I have been in dilemma since finishing NYSC last year.

I feel impelled to further education and can raise circa 3m naira.

I don't know if one can conclude an LLM (ie Masters in Law) in any Nigerian University under 18 months.

I feel like starting from there since I have been indecisive about Canadian Emigration.

Thank you!

Please Google Centre for Law and Business. You can do a LLM from University of London there. There website will give you all necessary information.

I think he is conscious of the cost; from his post, he seems to be more inclined towards public unis.

Buh most Nigerian unis run pure LLM and very little opportunity for specialisation... so the masters is more like a glorified LLB.

Best bet would be to really save up and emigrate - there is more room for specialisation (AI LLM, IP LLM, Corporate Law LLM, Law with Finance MSC, Maritime LLM, Space Law LLM, Oil and Gas LLM, etc.);

and, even if you do decide to come back to Nigeria, you would have a real prospect at top tier organisations/law firms.

Thank you for this detailed post.
I would like to do IP LLM and I dont think many Nigerian universities give room for specialisation.

What exactly will a masters in law give u in life Abeg emigrate

hahaha.

Sir, but Most degrees don't give us anything "exactly".

Degrees(and the education acquired by them) create platforms for us by enhancing one's skills/Knowledge.

whatever one does on that platform is hardly their (the institution's) concern. degrees also demonstrate commitment.

Emigration is usually an effective option though.

At Unilag, you can even finish your programme in 12 months but you will convoke the year after. The calendar is always pretty fast.
Btw, the LLM forms are out now. Grab it, bros.

If you are interested in studying Energy Law for your Masters, then you should check CENTER FOR PETROLEUM ENERGY ECONOMICS AND LAW (CPEEL), University of Ibadan. Trust me you will finish in exactly a year and six months

The problem is that some of those certs from such programmes aren't taken seriously here. Just like Open Uni.

Or what do you think?

Tbh... I doubt IP LLM is a stand-alone masters in any University in Nigeria. It may, however, be taught as a module in a Commercial And Corporate Law LLM, if there is anything like that in the Schools, but you probably might have to research into each Uni’s Masters program.

But Yh that choice makes a whole lot of sense - the market for IP in Nigeria is quite fresh - not so many big IP disputes that I know of, but regulatory compliance are still a big deal.

If you are considering travelling - Uni of Manchester is quite a good school for IP LLM. Hope that helps

This is one of the reasons I wonder y lawyers even bother to do masters .sometimes I feel they don't need it and should just do masters in other degrees that will benefit them.law is all about knowledge and experience this knowledge comes from books which no matter how many masters u have u must continue reading and updating by going for seminars, conferences.

Its only Nigeria that takes masters as a big deal other countries place experiences above masters
