Senator Shehu Sani has called to the attention of the Government concerning the light distribution in the country. See what he wrote... "They used to say when NEPA/PHCN is privatized, electricity will be available like the http://GSM. Now they say Generation & transmission is not the problem but distribution." Steps to boost electricity in Nigeria: 1. Improve Security to entice investors 2. Create a soft landing terms to facilitate investors/national motives. 3. Break the monopoly of gencos and discos. 4. Bring in investors, of cos, the market is available. . In summary, we need more gencos. At least, one per each local government. 3 Likes 2 Shares |

I've been hearing chronic power failure in Nigeria since I was a child. Now, I'm 40 and it's still the same issue. I've said it that it would take an average of one week for a German or Australian youth to run mad if brought to this country. 11 Likes 2 Shares |

Dailyhappenings: What Senator doesn't tell you is that power is subsidised, that many government agencies and Nigerians don't pay their bills, and that the amount needed to fix the thing is very very high. Infact, the problem is, we are not paying our DISCOS well enough. No, I am not being sarcastic. Because we don't pay DISCOS well enough...and DISCO's contribute to the problem / shoot themselves in the leg by not metering everyone...there is no money to invest in new infrastructure, and to replace old ones. We privatized GSM...but we did not subsidise GSM prices, we allowed them charge as much as they wanted...and in the process they MADE a profit that was reinvested in Nigeria to make more profit. Meanwhile...DISCOS are forced to charge 30% of the costs of production, the government is having trobule paying up the 70%, DISCOS are not allowed to compete across territories (the same issue that brought down many CDMA operators over 10 years ago), and DISCOS are so short of cash that they cannot pay GENCOS the money they need. Infact, power supply is very difficult. Fashola thought is was easy. It isn't. Ill conclude by quoting this Niaralander who has a good explanation why kjhova: 10 Likes 5 Shares |

The simple solution to the power problem is decentralize it. Lagos can't be dependent on Benin transmission company even though it has a power station. Scrap national grid it's not working. 7 Likes 3 Shares |

Electricity is fair and not good in some areas but worse in other areas. Nigeria is a very big entity that can't handle itself, it needs to dissolve or devolve power. It should be in units and everyone should take care of herself. With this big entity, money is easier to spend, work is harder to do.... Exponental: 5. Nigerians should pay their bills, and should pay appropriate bills. Government should stop this subsidy of power...or investors won't come. |

Exponental:It's far much more simpler than that: 1. The problem of Nigeria's electricity is Generation: We need 16GWatt of electricity and we are not even generating 4GWatt. 2. Let ordinary Nigerians be able to sell electricity to the public utility using a special electricity meter from solar. 3. Enforce the use of prepaid meter by All 4. Indigenous technology for generating and maintenance of turbines and alternators is a must. |

gabicon:If we scrap the national grid, do you know how much it will cost to rewire the entire nation?... If I'm not mistaken, scraping the national grid would entail disconnecting several states from power supply. 1 Like |
