Inside the dressing room, his approach was to create a siege mentality with his players -- "they don't like us out there so we must prove them wrong" -- while putting a hand on every shoulder and making each player believe he was capable of more.

"He called me aside and told me to believe in myself," Godfrey Oboabona told me after Nigeria beat the Ivory Coast at the 2013 African Nations' Cup. "He said [Didier] Drogba does not have two heads or four legs and if I play to my best, I could do it. That's what I did.".. Colin Udoh on Big Boss Stephen Keshi.

Note, the "they don't like us" were Nigerians, especially the media and the NFF. That was the atmosphere they worked with and delivered. Sorry, this pass egunje.
Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2023, 2025 And 2026 World Cup by TheGoodJoe(m): 11:08pm On May 05, 2019
He was not perfect. Keshi, like the rest of us, was a flawed man. But rarely have the flaws of one man provided the catalyst for the greatness of so many. Keshi's genius was in the ability to mine his own flaws into gems that glittered not just for himself, but lent their lustre to others... Colin Udoh.

They called it bribe.

Which how well? If they were as good as the crook made us believe they will still be balling competitively now in decent leagues? I will always maintain it that keshi's truimph at afcon 2013 was just mere luck and determination from the players. Keshi was the most corrupt coach who have ever tinkered the senior national team and such allegation is not only here in 9ja also from when he coach Togo and Mali. I wasn't and will never be among does who his shortlived success blinded their sense of reasoning and judgment

They had good 20-30 matches not what you'll call a national team career

You don’t motivate proven players to believe in themselves. They come to camp knowing what they can do on a good day. But some of those were left uninvited for fringe players who needed that motivation talk. Now where are are they — the likes of Dike, Ameobi, Babatunde (yes!) etc

A coach with a good talk is good . We need that when we are playing the likes of Argentina — granted. But when the chips are down, a player’s best may not be good enough. Which is why u need the very best to give their very best at all times.

Who were the proven players? We suffered a fall in quality players then. Keshi was reviving the team.

maybe he did

Because till tomorrow, I don't see what he brings to the team. He's rarely ever a stand out player, just getting by for lack of competition.

Winning South West Stoke City player of the year, whatever that means, doesn't make him stellar, it's not like they made it out of the Championship with his contribution

Rohr only issue at the world cup when it comes to players selection was dropping Aina for elderson and moreover Aina was poor during that period unlik now....

besides that...I can't really point any fault in his players selection...unlike keshi who picked Uchebo, Gabriel Rueben, Ameobi,Nwafor

Sir if we are honest with ourselves, Nwafor had some good games for us before the WC and we thought we had a good player in our hands. Even Flavor Uchebo impressed in the Scotland friendly before the WC, Old man Ameobi had a great game against Italy. The same Reuben was actually seen as an emerging midfield gem before a long term injury made him lose it. Keshi though human would have his flaws but take nothing away from Keshi, a natural born leader captained most if the sides he played in even when Nigerian players were a rarity in europe, Keshi was captain of Anderlecht, coached 3 different African countries, wining an afcon, qualifying for two WCs, Stephen, sleep well!!!!

Which good game? Nwofor that was struggling to make it in heereveen and spent most of the season with the Dutch clubs 2nd team? Uchebo impressed against which Scotland? Rueben midfielder Gen that couldn't break into kilmanocks first team? Even to an extend his clubs manager said he wonders what makes reuben gets call up from the Nigerian national teams often lol

Haiti is close to USA...why is it not developed all these years? Do not give me that excuse about cyclone and hurricane..they also happen in USA eg Florida

Look at Sub-Saharan...blacks all over..no real development..though Rwanda is wriggling out of it

It is always Politicians stealing, disease, age cheating, bribery in massive portions and in every government establishment

What we see sometimes are individuals trying to live above board not systemic issue...

This football age falsification and bribe taking are systemic in Nigeria...if you see the difference in age declaration and baptismal cards of civil servants...you will fear the thing called `falsification`

ARE BLACKS SPIRITUALLY CURSED?

Alhassan Mu'azzam Ibrahim scored a last minute equalizer for his club yesterday. He just came back from a long term injury a couple weeks ago.
