Hello, My friend is planning to buy either of the 2 vehicles both Nigerian Used Honda Element 2004-2006 and toyota Rav4 2004-2005... Please I will like to know if He is making a good choice Please tell me about the Durability,Fuel Economy, Maintenance and Availability of Parts and Mechanic... Going to be his first time car Cc: Nurey, Heavenlybang, Gazzuzz, Motorguru, |
Re: The Official Car Comparison/Recommendation Thread by nurey(m): 12:21pm On Apr 24, 2019 |
seanfer: Element is same as a CR-V only body shell is different. I would only advice you pick Element if you can live with the rear seat of 2 against 3 of regular cars but where the element trumps is cargo space. that your fridge, mattresses, cushion chairs, 42inch TV's The element will swallow it easily. Rav 4 for regular usage Element for cargo hauling |

Great thread bros. I have my heart set on the Lexus IS250/IS350 mostly for the fine form factor. I think the general consensus from the thread is that it's an ok buy. My problem is that I want the best most sensible option, durable, parts etc basically cost effective with a cap of 3million. The 250 is cheaper but is it 'better, more sensible' than the 350?Also what model year? Cc nurey, Heavenlybang |
Re: The Official Car Comparison/Recommendation Thread by nurey(m): 11:10am On Apr 29, 2019 |
jidobaba: IS250 for fuel economy, IS350 for power. Expect the high end trim of the IS to be more available as IS350 while most basic trim would come as 250. The advantage the 250 has is the engine is cheaper I mean far cheaper than the 350 engine. model year would depend on your pocket but a facelift started in 2008 so you can start your pick from there if your pocket agrees |

nurey:Yes that lexus grille is amazing I will have to up my budget for the 250. Thanks sir |
Re: The Official Car Comparison/Recommendation Thread by HeavenlyBang(m): 3:16pm On Apr 29, 2019 |
jidobaba:.. The IS250 is definitely the sensible option. Power addicts like us prefer the IS350, though. |

Good day everyone , Please can someone share some insights regarding 2010 Highlander and 2011 Acura MDX. Im planning getting a midsize suv with 3 rows (family getting lager) However, I need something that is efficient , good fuel economy, aesthetics and reliable. I know ACURA is a Honda is another shell. Does it have the regular "Honda Issues" ball joint and bent rear beam etc? I am stuck with these 2. And I need your opinions. Thanks. cc Nurey, Heavenlybang, and others |
Re: The Official Car Comparison/Recommendation Thread by Nobody: 11:28am On May 02, 2019 |
Megir: Both are good choices. In terms of aesthetics, the MDX wins arms down and it's also reliable. But in terms of economy then give it to the Highlander which is also reliable (maybe more reliable than the MDX because there are less things to break). Highlander comes in with 4 and 6cyl with either FWD and AWD While the MDX comes with only 6 cyl and AWD. So the Highlander is way more fuel efficient especially if u get the 4 cyl version. Also note that MDX uses premium fuel so u can't even get the factory mpg with the regular fuel we have here especially in traffic (and the factory mpg is still low at 16/21 mpg) 3 Likes 1 Share |

I am trying to get a car and I can't seem to decide between the facelift bmw e46 and the facelift w203 c240 kompressor (2006). I really love the exterior and headlight shape of the e46, but the interior of that facelift benz blows my mind. I test drove the e46 325xi a few days and it was wild! Never driven the benz. I have no concerns about the maintenance cost of the e46 because it's almost negligible. But I know nothing about the maintenance of the c240 or what common issues it might have. I am especially wary of it being driven through Lagos rains because i know flood do something silly to benz. I also hear of it's key issues etc All in all, I'm scared i might get bored with the interior of the BMW soon. I really really love the interior of the benz. Thoughts? nurey and co |
Re: The Official Car Comparison/Recommendation Thread by nurey(m): 7:30am On May 03, 2019 |
deathwing: Both aren't bad in the sport category. Both are reliable and no known fault, the BmW technically is a bit advance in the engineering department but with a solid engine same for the Benz even the turbo charger abi nah supercharger is solid. looking at both critically the Benz would need more care in the engine department. The BmW would consolidate you with its rear presence on road and it's sleek design. stance wise the Benz looks like it would finish the race first but the i6 in the beemer ain't no loser especially the xi trim even better if you get a diesel powered engine low in acceleration but enough torque to propel you. in the interior luxury department the Benz trump in out if the box luxury while the beemer can be customized to be in par. both are cramped in the back and boot space difference is negligible. Note the BmW is a sports sedan while the Benz is a luxurious compact sport sedan meaning BmW kept things as simple as possible interior wise. The engine in both are solid but working in the beemer bay may be a bit of a headache as everything is too close together, you may need to loosen something to work on something but above all its a reliable engine. In terms of aging the e46 does well in this department due to its boxy design a little bit here and there won't make its overall look like a deformity the Benz is second here. in all the one I would prefer to own is the BmW the ultimate driving machine while Benz for corporate looking personality. |
Re: The Official Car Comparison/Recommendation Thread by deathwing(m): 8:31am On May 03, 2019 |
nurey:\ Thank! But is it necessary or even desirable to get the xi (all wheel drive) versions of the e46? They seem to be more common among dealers now but I don't see any advantage a 4-wheel drive sedan could give me . |
Re: The Official Car Comparison/Recommendation Thread by nurey(m): 8:44am On May 03, 2019 |
deathwing: 4 wheel drive helps with traction, traction is an advantage in some ways, launching from a standstill will ensure you don't experience steering tilt when you accelerate that baby. then traction for snow or muddy plain. The BmW is not an off-road vehicle and we no get snow in naija though it may come handy when you take your ride to the beach to impress bitches you screech and the ladies Fitch |

Re: The Official Car Comparison/Recommendation Thread by Nobody: 7:40pm On May 05, 2019 |
nurey: Do not be deceived. AWD sedans don't offer any significant advantage over FWD in mud or sand. In fact if u are not a type that likes to race then u don't need an AWD sedan. Its just an extra thing that would break. |
Re: The Official Car Comparison/Recommendation Thread by nurey(m): 7:46pm On May 05, 2019 |
greenhulk: It does, if you transverse Lagos Ibadan expressway regularly then you will know there are some shortcuts of mud road you don't want to take your FWD else you sink. I have watched the comparison between a fwd vehicle and the AWD variant of same vehicle and I know the advantage. what I am saying in essence is because naija doesn't experience snow AWD may not be an immediate need in vehicles 1 Like |
Re: The Official Car Comparison/Recommendation Thread by nurey(m): 7:49pm On May 05, 2019 |
Rubbiish: in terms of suspension part, engine and fuel economy, the corolla is better, stronger as used by you i think is not right because the cars aren't used for fighting 3 Likes |

Re: The Official Car Comparison/Recommendation Thread by thebigkendo(m): 8:01pm On May 05, 2019 |
greenhulk: I beg to differ.. AWD is not really for race.. Its for difficult terrain when you would need more wheel power in some wheels.. But For regular everyday driving, it's just extra weight but when the need arises |
Re: The Official Car Comparison/Recommendation Thread by Nobody: 8:21pm On May 05, 2019 |
thebigkendo: I hope u are not mistaken AWD for 4WD. As a matter of fact AWD does better when traction is good, especially most of these sedans with AWD system. But once traction is bad it makes little difference with FWD. In fact a camry with FWD and winter tires will do a lot better on snow than an AWD car with all weather tires. |
Re: The Official Car Comparison/Recommendation Thread by Nobody: 8:25pm On May 05, 2019 |
nurey: AWD is not the same as 4WD. Most AWD sedans don't have button to lock differentials. They are basically useless on rough terrains, muds or snow. A set of snow tires will give u more traction in snow than investing in AWD sedans. |
Re: The Official Car Comparison/Recommendation Thread by thebigkendo(m): 9:50pm On May 05, 2019 |
greenhulk: why not compare a FWD & AWD both with All season tires.. Since in your word AWD don't offer any significant advantage 1 Like |
Re: The Official Car Comparison/Recommendation Thread by thebigkendo(m): 9:51pm On May 05, 2019 |
greenhulk: Have you heard about SH-AWD |
Re: The Official Car Comparison/Recommendation Thread by Nobody: 11:17pm On May 05, 2019 |
thebigkendo: SH-AWD is super handling AWD from Honda na. What has that got to do with driving in snow, mud or sand? It proves ur handling in corners at high speed, which is what I already said earlier that if u don't like speeding especially at take off or corners then u don't need AWD |
Re: The Official Car Comparison/Recommendation Thread by Nobody: 11:25pm On May 05, 2019 |
thebigkendo: FWD AND AWD both on all season tires would be catastrophic in the snow. Although AWD would offer better acceleration in snow but that's just it. The mistake a lot of people make is thinking whenever they are driving an AWD vehicle they can't get stuck especially all these sedans. AWD in most sedans give u better traction on good terrain and are good for cornering and better acceleration. Has little to do with bad terrain. So like I said it doesn't worth the extra money buying an AWD sedan if u really don't need it. A FWD with winter tires will get the job done. Watch the video below and see for urself. Even when u equip both with winter tires the AWD doesn't have any significant advantage other than improved acceleration. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iXjzYbpt9Ow Now watch as 2017 honda pilot with AWD got stuck on the beach. This is even an SUV with sand mode oh, compared to most AWD sedans that don't even have sand or snow mode. That thing doesn't give u any better traction on bad terrain. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V5wBLzODmkg |
Re: The Official Car Comparison/Recommendation Thread by nurey(m): 6:24am On May 06, 2019 |
greenhulk: so are you telling me 4WD too won't get stuck in that same sand, in my secondary school days, a 4wd Prado got stuck in mud, we had to give it a little push out to assist it. AWD depending on what type (full-time or part-time) also sends power to other wheels when they require it, the major difference i see there is AWD is an intelligent system while 4WD is more like a manual one. I agree with you that AWD is a waste in Nigeria you have little or no use for it here. But if that's what within your grasp to buy, then I see no reason not to |
Re: The Official Car Comparison/Recommendation Thread by thebigkendo(m): 6:41am On May 06, 2019 |
nurey: That all I have been saying.. When the 2 front wheels get stuck in mud with no traction to move front or reverse, A FWD will just continue spinning & digging, an AWD will send power to the rear wheel, infact if 2 front & 1 rear wheels get stuck.. AWD will send more power to the "unstuck" wheel & get you out.. I don't agree its a waste in Nigeria though.. Depends on where one lives or commute to.. It will not be useful most of the time but some day it will help & one won't need to pay Area boys to push or beg another driver to tow 1 Like |
Re: The Official Car Comparison/Recommendation Thread by thebigkendo(m): 7:00am On May 06, 2019 |
greenhulk: Bro even a 4WD with can get stuck in sand We are talking Nigeria with muddy roads during the rainy season.. Let me paint you a scenerio I drive an 06 accord.. I got stuck in mud once, both front tires were just spinning & throwing mud, -I looked for small grip by turning the steering left, right even tried reversing.. No way -All I did was to come down, placed a small plank(wood) under one of my front tires.. & I was out... In that scenerio with an AWD vehicle, power would have been sent to the rear to get me out of the mud.. NB: Anybody that takes a regular AWD vehicle to the beach without the appropriate tires, Naim know wetin e dey find

I want to know if there is any constant issues with the Toyota rav4 2007 to 2011. Its not so common and usually under rated as an suv. Any reasons? |
Re: The Official Car Comparison/Recommendation Thread by nurey(m): 10:34am On May 06, 2019 |
Chuksworld: The reason it is not common is competition and stereotype. It has competition from earlier models in pricing and other brands from both the maker and other makers. Stereotype is that it is a female car, more males stay away from it and a greater % of females have to wait till their husband buy for them. (please it doesn't mean females can't work and buy their own car ooo) |
