There is not much of anything to compare both will serve you. But the only thing there is if you wish/prefer/like/enjoy to be different pick the Volvo but let it be the wagon V40 the saloon is ugly.

Every other thing just jejely buy your Corolla

Bro even a 4WD with can get stuck in sand grin grin
We are talking Nigeria with muddy roads during the rainy season.. Let me paint you a scenerio
I drive an 06 accord.. I got stuck in mud once, both front tires were just spinning & throwing mud,
-I looked for small grip by turning the steering left, right even tried reversing.. No way
-All I did was to come down, placed a small plank(wood) under one of my front tires.. & I was out...
In that scenerio with an AWD vehicle, power would have been sent to the rear to get me out of the mud..

NB: Anybody that takes a regular AWD vehicle to the beach without the appropriate tires, Naim know wetin e dey find grin grin grin

Excellent explanation sir.
This also explains why it is difficult to drift an AWD car.

I didn't say v40 bro. I said s40 or is there no significant difference between the v40 and the 2004 s40?

I guess you talking about the second generation, it's a fine car and shares some mechanical parts with Mazda 3 and Ford focus. though if you can avoid the 04, start your search from 05 and above

Both vehicles fair well in the area of comparison. Easier to maintain is subjective as both have identical engine power plant so oil change and filter is likely. The only part here is the corolla would have more failed parts as the mileage will be close to X2 that of the civic.

I would pick a civic bought brand-new in Nigeria because it would certainly have low original mileage. Nigeria isn't as big as US what I would watch out for is maintenance and present engine condition.

The civic comes with factory fitted alloy rim while the corolla is steel rim.

interior wise the civic has an edge with digital dial and well illuminated dash though the center position of things can be a bit odd.

ground clearance I give it to the corolla.

suspension parts I give it to the civic solid engine too.

if both cars were presented to me in good condition the best choice will be the civic if I don't mind resale value as topmost of my priority.

They did seems Ford is a prostitute in the car industry grin they share UpTo 60% parts, steering, suspension, brake system, electricals and some other stuff though it is the European Ford focus which should be the Ford Mondeo or so.

Though Volvo owners have vowed never to utilize Mazda parts siting issues of reliability but engineers have hinted that Volvo underpinning parts are actually stamped FoMoCo

pros

corolla is more recent, better fuel economy, more refined design, lighter means less suspension failure, corolla is synonymous with good resale value and not yet favored by robbers and vandals.

The cons are

Cost of parts due to its scarse nature, more expensive parts replacement if something breaks, the devil you know is better than an angel you don't so ensure you do all the checks needed to confirm state of the car. Also customs can be on your matter so ensure the papers are genuine.

I have been thinking of getting an SUV because I have a large family (2 kids and a sister plus twins in view). I just can't take my mind off the Acura MDX 2005 model but I hear it has transmission issues and uses only premium fuel.

Questions:

1. What does unleaded premium fuel mean and how do I know which fuel stations sell unleaded premium fuel? I live in Ajao Estate Lagos and work in Marina, Lagos.

2. How fuel efficient is the Acura MDX 2005?

3. I need info about the transmission issues Acura is said to have and how to avoid it.

Thanks.
