Well, power has always been a problem in my area cos the DISCO in my area is very well experience in dancing disco with our power. The only good side is that you're sure of at least six to eight hours of light daily unless there is a major breakdown.

Then, to how I solve my power problem as a web designer, I got one reliable laptop power bank that last from 12 - 15 hours on full charge. In fact, I'm using it now while typing this. The cycle has been to charge it while we have power and rely on it when power is out. That pretty much solves my power issue as regards powering my laptop.

It's been like two years plus since I got this power bank and it's still going strong. The funny part is that it's Nigerian made. I got from one guy like that in Lagos in 2016.

Generator has always been the saving grace since I started my freelancing journey.

I live in a part of Abuja where we can't boast of 12hours power supply and the saddening part is 2 minutes walk down my street, they enjoy steady power supply, at least 20 -22hours supply daily. I have a friend there, so I go to his place few times to charge my laptops.

I use two laptops to edit and produce audio podcasts for my clients and the laptops have a combined power of about 7hours.

There is also a 2.5KVa generator at home that I often use. I plan buying a UPS this month or next that has at least, 10hours battery juice.

Go and live in your friend's street now.

Before then though, it was crappy and still is sometimes, so what I did was get two INEC powerbanks, that didn't solve the problem as much as I expected. I later got a medium size Firman generator early this year.


How it works now is; I charge the powerbanks round the clock with Nepa light, then use on blackout or brown out days. When it runs out, I power the banks with the generator for 6hours while working as well.


That way. I'm never out of power.

Again, Jos has been good because I've been using 3k fuel for over 4months. I still have a full tank and some in the gallon.

True. on a large scale, jos is trying in terms of power supply compared to some states. I served in jos. Some days, we enjoyed light for up to 15hrs especially weekends.

Still don't understand why Nigeria can't get this electricity ish resolved...

That generator will damage the cells of your battery (laptop and phone). Don't even try it.

I work from home providing digital marketing and start-up consultancy services for clients.

Power is relatively stable in the part of Lagos where I live (at least up to 12 hours daily), although on some days it can be very bad.

I have an inverter which batteries packed up a while ago and a 2.5kva generator that I refused to unbox primarily because of the noise and the unneeded attention it is bound to draw whenever it is powered.

To meet my daily work deadlines, I upgraded my laptop to a brand new Mac Air. The battery life is 12 hours of minimal use and at least 9 hours of heavy usage. The Swift Internet mifi I use once fully charged can go at least 8 hours. My smartphone (Samsung s8) can go for 8 - 12 hours depending on usage. I have a Nokia feature phone (which is my business line) that does up to 4 days when fully charged. Most times before the battery of my devices drops to 50%, electricity would have been restored and then I can charge my gadgets.

Sometimes, when the work volume is very much, I work from the client offices and at other times, from a co-working space in Opebi just to meet deadlines.

Buy Solar + Inverter + battery and you'd forever be grateful to God, because some fools are quick to write petition to the police or EFCC if you run a 24/7 Gen lifestyle to stay online, and they dont see you going for a 9-5 desk job.

Mtn Lumious is cheap on installmental plan but you can buy a better system on alibaba that powers a dc fan, light bulb in four rooms, power Laptops and phones. If you have a dc tv you're good to go, or an Low power AC Tv,

I believe it's due to the constant rain and strong winds these days. Few days back, NEPA didn't bring light for a full day. I was already planning to repair the gen when they came through. The last time I even used a generator was July 2018. (During world cup). I'm positive that in the next couple of months, we'd continue having our steady 20-23 hours power.

Depending on your electricity need, get a 200Ahms Battery, An inverter conversion box of say 1500-2000 watts, A solar charging panel or you can NEPA to charge anytime they bring light . Las Las shouldn’t cost u more than a 100k but u r set and off grid frustration of NEPA .

Yes, just that it does not come cheap. My neighbor runs three freezers off solar. Dude has not seen NEPA for like three years yet his house is never without electricity. If you can stand the high initial cost, then you are good to go.

Power is definitely a necessity for me as a writer. I do technical writing, hence, I spend a large chunk of the time researching about the subject matter online which is usually power consuming.

At least, for now my saving grace is because I'm based in an academic environment. FUTA to be precise. Sufficient power is available on most days, coupled with free access to the WiFi.

In summary, I don't have any generator
