A while back I asked a question about converting from CIMA to CPA, I said my school has an MoU with CIMA and because of this I will only be writing the SCS exam. I wanted to know if I will be eligible for conversion, I mailed CPA Alberta which is the Province I am hoping to land and this is the response I got:

Hi Peju,

Thank you for the clarification. Based on the information that you have provided in your email, you may not qualify for the current agreement with CIMA because of the MOU that your university has with them . The MRA states that you must have complete the entire CIMA program to be eligible to proceed. We will have to wait until you have become a member of CIMA to see how they classify the way you received your designation. CIMA applicants must also be employed and reside in Canada at the time of application for membership, which you have indicated you are not in Alberta yet.

It is important to note that the current MRA agreement is a legacy agreement and will be renegotiated by CPA Canada and CIMA, so there may be some changes by the time you have immigrated to Canada. At this time we are unsure of when this agreement will be renegotiated.

Thank you, Peju. Please contact us again once you have completed the program and have arrived in Alberta.

Hope someone finds this useful.
Thanks for the feedback to the house.. @bolded, does it mean CIMA students who completed all exams in Nigeria can't apply for CPA membership from Nigeria? Unlike ACCA?

I have a BC question too. Is BC student financial assistance as generous as OSAP?

I have no idea. I'll suggest you send email to find out, also the contents of the email I posted are for Alberta so if you're planning to land somewhere else, the conditions might be different.

Not a lot of provinces will let you convert without showing that you have landed in Canada. It’s only BC and Ontario that I know can let you convert from home.
For Alberta, you must have landed cuz you need to send them either your pr card or signed copr before they send you membership form. Doesn’t matter if you are ACCA or CIMA or any other MRA

I really have no idea. I work in the trades and successfully challenged the Red seal exam as soon as I arrived so I haven't had an urgent need to go to school here (Naija MBA don belleful me). But I suggest you can research more online. I can answer general questions regarding living on Vancouver island.

P.s: new comers with oil and gas work experience should consider grande prairie in Alberta. Small town affordable living with good paying jobs and low unemployment.

It's just a suggested list, to help you remember some little things that you'd otherwise forget.
The broom is that small one for ewedu and Shea butter is probably for hair/body. It would be expensive to get original raw Shea butter in Canada.
The list can be found here;

Hi everyone, its been a looooong time.

Does anyone have any experience with a spouse or PA being in the military or police force? A friend is married to a military guy and is thinking of applying under express entry but is worried about the application being flagged for security clearance.

Please help.

We have a lot of lawyers in Anti Money Laundering AML role. Look at the job descriptions of AML and see if you can read up materials on their role. I used to have an ebook on their certification. If you certify, you have an edge over others.

Please pm me while i search for it.

Good day, please can you pm me the books?

Hi, I'm in the paramilitary, recently got COPR, nothing was flagged.

He just needs to fill out the military/ paramilitary questionnaire in the personal history section very accurately.

Hi, if I told you 10million would you believe me? Sure it involves money, but it also involves a lot of determination to follow through no matter the obstacle. I assume I'm talking to someone interested in genuine/legit immigration? If you are, you can start reading about becoming a permanent resident of Canada on this thread. You can ask your questions there

Hi all,

I received some pms from bankers in Nigeria that would want to continue their banking career here. i will just share the basic knowledge i have here and believe some people already in the bank here will throw more light and or correct my impression if wrong.

for those in branches you can still continue your career here as the banks here have branches and are always recruiting. Doing the mutual funds accreditation in either Investment funds in Canada or Canadian Security course or both before launching yourself into the job market gives you an advantage over others.

Also Acces employment is a good employment agency to connect with if you intend to land a banking job because they have link with almost all the banks and do career fair with the banks while training you.

The main roles in the branches are client advisor, banking advisor and financial advisor and the major banks are RBC, TD, CIBC, SCOTIA and BMO. you also have customer service representative which is like contact centre job in Nigeria.

Feel free to google these banks and the roles to see their job descriptions. This will help you decide if it is something you can do. good sites to search for jobs are indeed, glassdoor and the banks' career sites

Please the experienced Canadian bankers here can throw more light oin career in the banks here especially the branches and the certifications required to get into the system. Once you get in with your Nigerian experience you can always navigate your way to other departments(a foot in the door) and also the difference between the 2 certifications.

Thanks
