Take this advice bro...there are opportunities in naija. was doing a job I felt was beneath me abroad. everybody discouraged me from coming back. my african colleagues were feeling untop of the world with the job we were doing working 4Amazon but deep within me I kneew I deserve better...I clenched my teeth and returned to mockery but within 4 months God picked up my call and I'm kinda balling right now. people talking smack about naija are mostly people who have not travelled out and experience the discrimination disrespect associated with being in a foreign land. I came back with an idea for a startup but an international organisation grab me and is refusing to let go...me now telling HR I can't stay much longer because I need to focus on my dream company. for oyibo land who born me to reject offer?

That's why I hardly comment on a situation like this.
Expecting advice from Nigerians grin

U did exactly like me.
I worked my ass off abroad 'one of d best country in d world o' that's when I realized those countries are overhyped. The pay looks good but not enough after paying house rent, foods and TP.
God saved me I returned to see the opportunities I left behind.
I thank God
I'm visiting that country 3 times a year now on 2wks stay each

I am a Nigerian in Germany with a German Masters degree. It's quite difficult to get professional jobs in Germany as an African as we are usually the last of the pack. The only luck I ever had was to get internships, internships that takes several months to get and usually only for short periods. The high percentage of Africans even with German Phds doing menial jobs is highly discouraging and depressing. Most are trapped in the race for survival and I can't imagine myself living life like them. I feel I could do better with my skills and education that spreads across Europe's top countries.

I made the decision to return to Nigeria, harness my skills and start up a processing company. At 25 and the sole breadwinner of an extended family, they are asking me to stay put, saying that the Nigerian environment is not good for business (I feel they are only scared of losing out on the goodies they get from me).

Also last year, the family introduced me to a female in the UK, talking about marriage to her. The said lady is a Nigerian within my age range, but born and raised in the UK. Though I have been to the UK severally to see her, I have made no commitments whatsoever as she is not the kind of lady I would marry all things being equal. She and the family have however given me a ultimatum to decide now.

What do you advice?

From what I see here , I observe that you are the type that feels being able to afford anything you want means happy life or success, but in the real sense it isn't. You have to be happy with what you do and love it , to be fulfilled , I assure you there is no where in the world you will go and get that which you are looking for, and that's cos you are being hasty. Be patient and be happy with what you have while u strive to do better.

This life ehn. We've got Nigerian students from Canada come to Germany because of lack of skilled opportunities. They say there is discrimination on lack of Canadian degrees and Canadian experience. Also, honest reviews from Quora don't help. It seems many skilled migrants in Canada are also trapped in these same unskilled jobs.

I would have gone to Canada long ago if not for that. I felt the money to be wasted on the processing of the Canadian PR to go get unskilled jobs could be better channelled to my business projects in Nigeria.
my brother come back to Nigeria and join politics, thank me later.

My reservations about moving to the UK

- I hate being at the mercy of others. Going to the UK on a spousal permit means losing my German residency and I'll be at her mercy. As should anything go wrong with the relationship , I'll have to leave the UK.

- Getting a professional job. It doesn't make sense to go to the UK and continue to be trapped in menial jobs. I have been there and I hardly see Nigerians in professional jobs except those with rich parents. Someone should advice me on that as it could not be a real reflection.

My Reservations about Nigeria

- High rate of startup failure
- Difficulty in getting loans to expand. I have heard they can ask for even your neck in those times. With a lack of collateral, more difficult.

For those asking about my course, Yes it's a STEM degree.

Go to Australia. You will get a good job of your profession there.

If you feel opportunities are lacking for you in Germany, take a leap of faith to another country. You can start making contacts with people in Nigeria to see the possibility of relocating back home possibly get a job. It's better to work in a fulfilling career no matter where you are, than to be stuck in a rut abroad. Best wishes.

Bro come to USA. If you can find a way to come to the USA, you won’t regret it. Although the job is not that easy especially for international student on F1, but trust me if you have a masters degree in STEM, there is hope for you. Infact most of the STEM guys I know already got high paying jobs at Fortune 500 companies.

I know the US visa ain’t easy, but if you can find a way to get here, you won’t regret it.

Although the US is not without its faults, I partially agree with you on the above.

In general, the OP is better in the US or even UK as a PhD student than Germany. Africans with German PhDs hardly get jobs in Germany...This is not so in the UK rara. I have boys who will be professors in a few years at UK schools....

It depends on where you are. Top Nigerian brains/even above average Nigerians brains in the US/UK I know of are actually working solid job.

The other day, they featured this naija guy on bloomberg or one of these finance stations. I can tell you, that guy easily makes 600K. He is not even 40 in my estimation. Pure Naija

So, it depends on the abroad. Germany, while being one of the best countries I have lived, is not known to offer that kind of opportunities to outside-EU people.

so are you going to define the success of a group just because one man is successful..that is what the tv people show you..Nigerians are top brains in the US/UK but how many are they?

the reality is that they are not plenty just few. how many Nigerians are top brains in the us/uk compare to the millions of white and black americans working in the US? what the media just showed you is an outliner among a certain group, even our top Nigerian brains cant compete with millions of UK/American native-born doing similar stuff because they control the system.

the only place where you will see an abundance of top brains is not abroad but in your home country(Nigeria)

The plain truth is that you can't speak, read and write German on a professional level... that's why you are in this fix, if you were proficient in German esp with a German M.Sc diploma, you would not be in the situation you are in...
Please I advise you to go wherever English is spoken so you can integrate easily.

Do not attempt a marriage to that lady without a means of income. I have seen too many bad cases to even start talking. Secondly, try other African countries if Europe no work out. Thirdly, if you have the money, Naija is not too bad if you can navigate the challenges here.

I can categorically tell you that if you do business in Naija, you will make it but you have to be dogged and brutal.

I won’t advice you living life at the mercy of a woman and yet loosing your German residency because of that. It’s better to do the menial jobs and keep trying until you get a better job. At least the menial job pays the bill and everyone is happy at home. Not to say you have to settle for less. But lesser is when you leave at the mercy of a woman and thereby loosing your German residency to that effect as you stated. I’m sure with time you would get a better job bro!!! Patience!

No I don't think so
, language matters but as an African it is not that easy like that here, jobs are giving mostly on racial background, there are success stories, I am one of them but it is not upto 10% out of 100%. Many do unprofessional jobs. You know we Nigerians we dont want to tell ourselves the truth, the person driving taxi in Canada will tell you that he is working in one big bank or company in Canada. Na so I go visit my relative for USA and na Ice Cream he is selling, he tell me oboy no mind facebook things oo, na here I dey square up ooo. This world no easy men.

Listen....

I am a Nigerian who relocated to the US to go hustle...some years ago. I went on a visa, to do what guys normally do- over stay visa, marry change status and live the American dream

My friends were doing it and it seemed kinda cool. Got to the US- the NE, got a survival job, was zeemingly living well, facebook pictures and all. Got into a bramch of IT(without papers) with w9 tho,and was earning like 20 an hour, which was something, though it wasnt steady, steady work.

To supplement i was a pizza driver by the side, also doing doordash, instashopper and all. But somehow, i was not happy, i knew i could do better.

To get any headway, i knew i had to marry-an akata or someone to get my stay to be legit and begin to work on a w2 with big companies getting steady pay.

I couldnt save enough to pay a girl $10k for marriage and the women loving me, were these obese, fat ugly ones who may be rich, but meeeeehn, getting an erection every night to service her for the 3 or 5yrs it would take me to get my PR was a no no.i cant keep up with pretense that long.

For how long would i then consider staying in the US as an overstay hoping for big break when i even got in, in my late 30's? The people,we(me and some friends from Naija who we came in together) looked upto were doing uber, amazon flex and Lyft. The big boys considered themselves car dealers- i come US come dey ship moto go back naija?

That seemed to be the immediate aspiration and so I asked myself, soooo, i will be drivung Uber in America? Taxi? Or be doing car dealer(which i didnt even have the money to go into) going to auction every tuesday and thurrsday? Thats the dream?

My IT work, those my managers and supervisors who paid me $20 an hour had bsen in the field for 30yeats and they always got to site before me and left after me, atimes 10hrs straight of work. So i asked mysf at what point will these peoplw rest?.At 70? 80? Because people with that kind of expeerice ( and i am talking master) are on the penthouse office in Lagos directing staff through managers. Here, they were still on the field. Haba

I decided i was coming back to Nigeria. I knew a couole of big wigs i felt qould give me a soft landing, but meeeehn, it hqs been hell since. Nothing has worked since i came back.

Ans i came back without money.

Now, all my hopes rests on a former Boss of mine who has is handling a huge govt project (we have been exchnaging notes on for the past three months)for the nexr 10years, totalling almost $12billion in execution.

If he calls me, hopefully within the next 48hrs,I would have been saved by the bell. If he doesnt, then i am doomed and oming back would perhaps be the biggest mistake of my life.

Look before you leap bro. Nigeria is hell, but by all means do not settle for menial jobs. But by all means, have a good alternative

The job is not professional and it is a contract work maybe for 2 years, after that you stay at home before getting another one. Most of the Job you will get in Germany is not a continuous permanent job, 90% is a contract job. The reason for wanting to migrate to Canada is because they said one can get permanent work or longer contract work there and also the permanent resident is easy to get, for germany here PR na war.

I didn't say no job. I said lack of getting professional jobs.

Some people, Yes maybe, especially if you studied IT. A very large majority is trapped in menial jobs, not even full-time ones, the ones you get with unskilled employment agencies. Even with PhDs and all that. I wouldn't call that a great life. But to some people, it is. You have to understand perspectives.

I have a female Nigerian here who is employed with an agency and goes to clean people's home. She is quite happy and considers it a great opportunity considering that sometimes she joins the family on dinner outings and get gifts. It's great for her but not for me. I wouldn even accept something like that as I think It's no less than being a maid

Will you be able to survive in Germany, Yes. If you're someone with a big dream, I'll say difficult.

In Germany: Germans> EU nationals>US>Eastern Europe >Asians>Indians/Paki etc >Africans. That's the order of getting professional jobs.

By Eastern Europeans do you mean the Romanians or Bulgarians?
Re: Should I Move To The UK Or Return To Nigeria? by Nobody: 12:24am On May 14, 2019
You have two options depending on what you want most.
If you think you can't marry her because she is not your type, then remain in Germany for the main time.

Keep praying and hoping, something good will come up.

As a matter of fact, must you marry Nigerian?
Why can't you settle down with a German lady and build a life with your family there and come back to naija from time to time and see if the prospects there will improve.

How many of Nigerian abroad are in such a position considering their population
I really don't know where you live but there is discrimination in the highest order from time immemorial.
To be frank, I urge you to ponder if you will be happy to allow a Ghanaian to come over and head Ministry of Works in your state when a lot of Nigerian are jobless ? Such are the same situation abroad, my brother !
No matter the degree you have, British establishment will ensure you can only get a menial jobs to pave way for their white kids who are still in school.
That is the reality at the moment.
