Hello house. My mum had her interview this morning and it was not successful. I just want to know what you guys think went wrong. She works with health commission as a chief matron and has been working for 33years. She earns 350k but does not have travel history. She wanted to go for a vacation and also attend her friend’s birthday party. She put her friend has her contact person in the US. She is 58yrs old. This is her first application. She said the black American lady that interviewed her just asked her two questions. (Where she was going and what she does). She then denied the visa. Pls what do you think went wrong and do you also think she should reapply soon?

Good evening all. I have been a silent follower since last week. I applied for the b1/b2 Visa in March/April. Selected interview date of 7th May.
Fast forward to interview that. I entered the embassy followed up with the queue and all the processes. Before it got to my turn, I was already observing who got and who didn't while I was outside on queue, I can tell most people didn't pull through,.. I Overhead a young girl of about 8 asking her dad, are you still angry they didn't give us? The mum laughed it off while the dad told her "You won't understand".
Long story short, I went into the interview hall and questions and answers was popping of from VOs and Applicants. In my presence only Windows 8 gave a white people. The couple in front of me were already being quizzed by the lady in window 6. She has rounded off like 3 persons in my presence, all blue.
The couple too didn't make it,... Ah .

*NEXT*

VO: hello
Me: good morning (handed my passport over to her).
VO: Have you travelled before to US?
Me: No
VO: why are you going Texas?
Me: to attend a Convention by xyz union/organization... The Convention is on xyz....
VO: Do you have anybody in the US, where do you plan to stay during your visit?
Me: No I don't. I ve made plans to stay in a Hotel "Comfort.... Located at xyz,.. Same venue with the convention.
VO: Are you married?
Me: No, I am engaged..... (She didn't even wait for me to finish the statement)...
VO: (Reaches for the paper (blue ) Sorry...... Bla bla bla.... I didnt even care to listen again.

Status: *Denied*

I guess I lost out on Travel history and family ties.

Good luck to everyone going on subsequent days,.. Prepare and arm yourself. I think the mood of VOs count too.

Good luck.

I actually plan on applying for a conference too.... Or could it also you don't have a contact over there in Texas who you would be staying with. And what do you think might increase the chances of someone going for conference

We have all been very cordial to you even though if you read between the lines your serial misrepresentation calls for some serious concern.

Do the right thing and follow the advice you have been given to clear your outstanding bill and delay any further applications to the US until about 2 years have passed.

When you do reapply, please make sure you tell the whole truth about your originally declared intent, your true intention, and how it actually played out.

Have a good day.

Thank u so much I appreciate

Oakbend rates are discounted, they have in fact been blacklisted like some other facilities too in this light. Dr F., Dr. D, Dr. Z oh, all na yawa now....

You didn’t declare pregnancy/childbirthing plan, neither did you write anywhere that you wrote the now worthless “Notification of Change of Intent Letter” to them (not like it would have meant anything in your case too), even though you have still not answered directly, one can string it together from your posts so far that you used the visa to birth on your first trip to the US after its issuance, and that is almost not forgivable by them. They may have soft-pedalled if only your bills paid were on the high side maybe. Now you paid low....

Getting that visa again will take much suffering if at all they will later issue you one. You will have to let them be for a couple of years, holiday to other quality places, per adventure some miracle will happen for you with them some time in the future. Renewal hope is almost slimmer than slim for now! How long did you even stay there for the birthing if I may ask?

Meanwhile you said in your initial post that you told the VO you had complications and had to stay back in the US to birth there. Was the complication from Nigeria or happened there in the US? Wondering now if you actually even informed the CBP of your birthing plans like you are almost making us believe here. You told them one thing, and you are telling the VO another or what? You are quite economical with the truth here sha.... Just know however that your transcript for the visa approval, the CBP, and now the visa refusal are well documented by them - all the parties involved so far - and open to both VOs world over and CBP everywhere with just a click.
Whatever she lies or what explanation she gives, usually all these mamas close their own visa to US by giving a birth in America. They will be denied and denied, the truth is having an American born child shows the stay intent and American embassy usually denies any visa until the American born is 21 years old, has his/her own established home in America and can sponsor his/her mama to come to live in America.
Do you think you are smart rushing to give a birth in America? Good luck in waiting.

On a more serious note, I also don't think this is a correct "assumption". If this was correct, our people won't even get visas granted them for birthing purposes.... As long as you follow the process as should and pay up the bills without ignorantly cutting corners/falling for the discount "trap" (that's the challenge most of our people are facing currently), you are good to go. Medicals don't come cheap in the US.

Someone spends some 15-25k on birthing in the US, doing everything not to fall short of the system's expectation, then exit. And you say that one has immigrant intent? A child that can't even file for you till 21 or thereabouts? And policies do change you know. I even read of a child trying to get the authorities to come get info on how to help deport his parents (illegals or whatever the term is), because he feels they maltreated him while growing up in the US with them oh and don't deserve anything good from his citizenship! Leave that matter please. Ego, an edge for the child in the future, the strength of the US passport, etc, these are all motivating factors for birthing in the US....

Be loaded with proof of a comfortable life/home ties and over-financial ability, get well priced and fairly discounted/not even discounted (where possible) price quotes from doctors and facilities not blacklisted, go attend your interview and prove your mettle, you will get a visa to go birth in the US with, till today. Ensure you do as you said during the interview and as you told CBP before entering the US, you won't have issues. Birthing in the US is not illegal at all, just don't play a fast one on them. I have friends with teenage US born kids, all bills duly paid for the birthing, they go in and out of the US with a B1/B2 (been renewing for God knows how long) visa till date, no ish.... Why? Because they haven't yet been found wanting on their visa usage.

I think that parents desperately seeking to have their children born in the US or Canada really benefits the child not necessary the parents.

However, at times it might end up benefiting the parents if they are still alive after 21 years of raising the US born child or 18 years old for the Canadian born child...but either way, the child get the bulk of the benefits and the parents might enjoy the benefits too if the child is willing to eventually petition for the parents.

Other places like the other 180+ countries that exist outside the UK, Canada and the USA. Look for popular tourist destinations that are neither the aforementioned nor Dubai.

When people build travel history, they build it so they can apply to the US. They actually build it before applying to the US, because the US takes travel history very importantly.

afehin71:

People build travel history by travelling to tourist destinations like I stated above. Search for them, and go there before applying to the US. Some people argue that for a US visa, travel to Dubai isn't even considered a travel history, it could be right or wrong but just build travel history outside the US for now.

On the other hand, you can go ahead and apply, and you'll get it.

Good luck.

You’re 19, no job, still a student. You’ve shown that you’re desperate to go to the west - 2 Canada visa denials and 1 UK visa denial already. You can understand why the visa officer is likely to be suspicious that you won’t return. Forget about traveling for now, relax, finish school, get a job... establish ties in your home country, then try again.

Sincerely, we need to take a chill pill as a people and get to understand that there is life outside "The USA". I understand the desperation to go see the abroad and all, but hey, it shouldn't come at such high costs like is being displayed here. Lies, deceit, fake documents etc. are too high a cost.

My dad used to say this - if you today because of hunger eat out of the waste bin, you wont be able to convince those who saw you eat out of the waste bin you no longer do when you become rich tomorrow. Why lose your self esteem and self worth and somebodiness because of Visa?

How can a 19 years old be going to the USA for sight seeing when he has no work and claims to be an undergrad? If mom/dad are boxed up and the family is going on a vacation then that's understandable. Otherwise, sit your ass down and read your books. Get great grades and secure your tomorrow.

How can your first trip outside Nigeria as a middle class person be to attend a friend's birthday. You earn 350K or even 500K and think heaven should fall? That's an average monthly rent for a 2 bed (exclusive of bills and council tax). Invest your money in money spinning ventures and build great capital that will portray you in gr8 light when it is the right time to apply for these visas.

How can an engineer or IT professional be attending a purely based medical conference or vice versa. I know IT plays a role in medicine but basically application and such conferences are easily distinguishable. These VO are becoming very smart. They are asking the right questions now and will mostly pick you out.

Even for me as a professional here in the UK I wouldn't visit the US except I'm being sponsored because its expensive. Hotels alone in the Bay area, feeding (I eat Nigerian meals anywhere and it's very pricey), mobility (uber rides), non-stop flights and conference/workshop registration all cost serious money. Don't forget the caution deposits in hotels and all that. A 4 night trip will be around $3500-$4000! I can't spend that from my own savings at this level.

I'm supposed to be in Germany this week to give an expert submission at a workshop, all expenses paid by the organisers, but cant make it because it takes 8 days now to process Germany's Visa (Schengen) for Nigerians in London and I received my invite letter really late.

I simply told the organisers that I would deliver my presentation and take questions via teleconference. They insisted I submit my Visa application while they communicate for urgency and all that, but I simply said No. Why the desperation? I was there late last year and so no rush. When next you require my submissions, send the invite in time.

Let's sit down and build capacity/reputation back home. I built one that's why I can travel and have those expenses sponsored. These embassies shouldn't be feeding fat on our ignorance and desperation. They can see it on our faces when we apply.

I get the argument and I support it, but you and I are speaking from positions of (relative) privilege. Nigeria is an incredibly difficult country, made so by a succession of governments indifferent to creating and maintaining boundaries that guide and protect its citizens. It is no one else's fault but ours; our leaders are born, bred and raised here. The values they display are ours.

Those who can escape do. And to be honest, if I could, I wouldn't be here either. Nigeria sucks. You are right though. It is no excuse for us to lie, cheat, steal our way out of this country.

I would like to do a dropbox renewal for my dad,but his paper has less than 2months validity on it.He has applied for another one for over 3weeks now but was told there is no booklet as of now.

Can I go ahead and submit it like that, as his dropbox window period since his Visa expired is Friday the 17th.

Kindly advice accordingly.

Ok Sir.

You know what's funny though - most of the white/caribbean folks I know are relocating to Africa/Asia. Every now and then, I see them registering one local company in Mozambique, Sierra-Leone, Ghana and Nigeria! Was in the country late March/April and discovered South Africans coming into the country to carry out market survey on the feasibility of their business (in the energy sector - inverters and all that)!

Africa is the next cash cow, because all attention is shifting to her to make sure she doesn't derail global climate change agenda. We are talking serious money wrt climate change, adaptation, electrification etc. This is worth £billions in the long term. What are we doing about it? Nothing. UK is strategically developing policies to ensure that her foreign aids through DFID, DEFRA and BEIS contribute to net zero emissions by 2050. This is an open door to data scientists and engineers and agriculturists to start building capacity for windfall because local capacity must be built. These information are online and free to access but alas, my people perish for lack of knowledge.

Shey Nigeria is too hard, so we all should move away? What happens when they come into our country and milk it dry and then get it working? We would start running back abi? Nigerians have never been known to have an orderly system. Shey Canaan Land is run by angels? (We can talk about the issue of inequality and morality of the investments over beer), but isn't it functioning? I've been there and was humbled that such a place does exist. What of the Jehovah's Witness HQ in Edo State (Igieduma), is it not here in Nigeria? No power outage for years, clean, constant electricity, order and all.

I know Nigeria sucks. I know. It hurts to be saying this, but life in Nigeria can really get hard. I was there. But let's keep emotions aside, what value do you think you will add to the country you want to migrate to? What skills do you have that will wow them and incentivise these guys to sponsor you? If you are not coming in as a professional, the alternative is good old fashioned hard work (not mental work).

Sincerely, if the truth be told, the life of an average Nigerian in the abroad is an average one. Life shouldn't be average especially when matched with our potentials. And the daily dose of discrimination, forget it!

Hello all,

My last visit to US, my kids and I stayed almost 3months and during our stay my kids 8 and 5yrs enrolled in a public school nearby the apartment I rented, just to keep them busy. Do you think it's going to be a problem for us when renewing our Visa?

Does your visa allow you to enroll your kids in a public school? It is strictly for tourism and no study permit attached. You might be lucky though.

Immigrants, both legal and illegal, are actually net "inputers" into the US economy, not net takers (as the Trump administration found out). And they may not have skills but they perform the low wage jobs that Americans are no longer interested in performing, that allow the costs of goods and services provided within the country to remain low. That is the value of "illegal" immigrants bring to the table. Ain't no American soul gonna bust his/her but to earn $4 a day to pick fruit in the hot sun for 12 hours a day with no health insurance. But you and I know that doing work, even illegally in the US can put you in a better financial position than working day in and day out for employers in this country.

I know Africa is rich with opportunity; it's evident in the way China, the US and Europe as well as their citizens fill flights to take advantage of us and reap wealth in the billions. We have neither enough of the right people in power nor the knowledge to make our continent flourish. It's a shame.

To be very clear I do not condone or accept illegal immigration. Do not lie, cheat, scam, or steal other human beings or other nations in the name of opportunity for you, yourself and yours. It's not a great way to live. But I get it.

You had the opportunity to stay in Nigeria and left legally. I visit the US and come back home to a somewhat comfortable middle-class life. I'm guessing the hard-scrabble life of an illegal immigrant appeals to neither one of us. But for others the question is do you work like a dog in a country where there's no light, no food, no health, no jobs, no support, no security, or in a country that at least has the basics running and even with limited skills you can eat and provide a little for the family at home?

Still. DO NOT BE AN ILLEGAL IMMIGRANT.
