I have been thinking of getting an SUV because I have a large family (2 kids and a sister plus twins in view). I just can't take my mind off the Acura MDX 2005 model but I hear it has transmission issues and uses only premium fuel.

Questions:

1. What does unleaded premium fuel mean and how do I know which fuel stations sell unleaded premium fuel? I live in Ajao Estate Lagos and work in Marina, Lagos.

2. How fuel efficient is the Acura MDX 2005?

3. I need info about the transmission issues Acura is said to have and how to avoid it.

Thanks.
I will strongly recommend the Toyota Sienna.

I will strongly recommend the Toyota Sienna.

From what I've seen in Lagos so far, the Sienna is not a friendly car for Lagos traffic. There is no day I dont see a broken down Sienna on Apongbon or Third Mainland Bridges with bonnet open and the owners standing helplessly beside it. cheesy

Not all Sienna cars are Sienna. When you do direct fan connection, you are bound to have overheating problems with Lagos endemic traffic. But in all sincerity the Sienna trumps the Acura

Do not be deceived. AWD sedans don't offer any significant advantage over FWD in mud or sand. In fact if u are not a type that likes to race then u don't need an AWD sedan. Its just an extra thing that would break.
They do. Ever tried to climb a slippery slope in the village with a FWD during the rainy season? You go spin your tire to oblivion and vehicle won't move an inch. Been there, done that. An acura TL with SHAWD climbed it like a boss.

Presently No premium fuel in Nigeria so you may experience reduced, not such a big deal

2. How fuel efficient is the Acura MDX 2005?
It is not designed to be fuel efficient(It is not a corolla)

3. I need info about the transmission issues Acura is said to have and how to avoid it.
Use the correct fluid & You will be be fine..

If fuel economy & resell value is very important to you.. Please forget that Acura MDX

Disagree. Huge difference with all wheel drive. The places I've been with my cars the one time I went without awd I got stuck. I now only own awd vehicles.

The 2005 C240 has a reliable powertrain but is grossly underpowered. One of the most unimpressive V6's I've ever seen, and will honestly leave you disappointed. The ES330 has a 3.3L doing about 225 HP and 240lbs of torque. It's a more powerful car than the Benz.

The C240 is RWD while the ES is FWD. Handling of the C240 is much better than on the ES.

Maintenance and reliability is all for the ES. Part prices are about on par with Benz, but the ES will be way more reliable than the C.

Luxury is also for the ES. The interior is quite simply a better place to be in. Go have a sit in both cars, you'll understand. Interior build will also hold up much better than with the C Class–in my opinion all W203 interiors start to fall apart at high mileage and when they do, it's not pretty.

Mehn, buy the ES. It's a better car, pretty much.

Another cars you may want to look into is the ES350. I'm pretty sure you can get a 2007/2008 model with 3M these days if you search hard enough. Maybe a 2006 GS300? 2007/2008 Acura TL. 2007/2008 Infiniti G35. 2007 Mercedes E350. These are all better cars than the C240 and ES330.

Considering your criteria, I'd go for an ES350.

Feel free to ask any other questions about the C240 and ES330. I have extensive hands-on knowledge on one, and currently own the other.
This information has been helpful to me considering that i had either of these vehicles in mind to purchase soonest. But perhaps I insist on going the 2005 MB c230 or c240, what range of mileage should i not exceed when purchasing? Most often i see miles ranging from 140-170km and i also see some from 190-210km and are even cheaper. Is there a problem with buying the c class with mileage that has 190km ?

If you're buying a higher mileage vehicle, go with the C240. It has a way more reliable engine than the C230. I'd aim for one under 150k miles, though.

One last question. It there a problem with the c240 4matic? Because i read a post earlier when some adviced against buying the 4matic. Would you rather advice that i opt in for just the c240 without the said 4matic?

4matic is Mercedes' all-wheel drive. Drivetrain and suspension parts are very expensive. Buy a regular RWD C240.

It shares platform with Toyota yaris, more like a 5 door yaris variant.

1.8L engine though the fuel economy is what baffles me, I was expecting something yaris style grin 8.7L/100km city 7.1 highway. Also the HP 128 haba for that model year seems low for a 1.8L engine.

It's a Toyota Sha, reliability is not questionable.
