teddyalba: You people really need to stop this nonsense. Stop spreading what you don’t know or understand. The Alaafin never ruled over all of Yoruba land as a single entity at any particular point in time in our history. Alaafin/Oloyo of Oyo was never Alaafin of Yoruba land. The Oyo throne never ruled over Ife and lots of Yoruba towns including the present day Ekiti State. The Ife throne remains the most superior throne in south west and the source of all royalty in Yoruba land including your Alaafin crown. Oyo was founded over 1000 years after the existence of Ile Ife by Oranmiyan. Oranmiyan himself abandoned the Oyo throne to forcefully take over as Ooni of Ife from Obalufon Alayemore. Stop this false history please. 5 Likes |

seunmsg: Please tell them; they are taking the revision too far. The Oyo Empire gained its fame because of its military accomplishment. At the point it was prospering, there were other Yoruba domains that were totally independent of it - and probably even older than it. Ile-ife predates any known Yoruba area of civilization, as can be gleaned from its art work and all of that. So the assertion that it is the nucleus of the Yoruba nation is scientifically explainable. It is an aberration to submit that Oyo is a peer with Ile-Ife - how much more to try to exalt it above the head (Ile-Ife). Oyo sprang out of Ile-Ife, just like every Yoruba domain. The Ooni (Oonirisa), according to Yoruba mythology, is not even a mortal to begin with; the Ooni is a deity. So he his not in the league of mortals which the Kabiyesi Alaafin Oyo belongs to. These Oyo folks should go and take a seat. Kano might be the most prosperous of the Emirates (many times bigger than Sokoto), but it is still subservient to the Sultanate in Sokoto. 6 Likes 1 Share |
Your submission is really laughable. You refuse to dispute the fact that Oranmiyan left Oyo to take over the Ooni of Ife throne from Obalufon Alayemore but you are arguing that subsequent Oonis are not descendants of Oranmiyan. So, what happened to the children/descendants of Oranmiyan? Are you saying they were all denied the opportunity of ascending the Ife throne till date? Whst happened to his children/descendants after his death? |
Re: Names Of Traditional Rulers In Yoruba Land by Google7: 3:04pm On May 15, 2019 |

Whilst it could be confusing as to who downline descendants are, Whilst ALAAFIN is also capable of lying when he frankly told Sijuade that he is not a descemeant of Oranmiyan, I ask you to help yourself- Who is Osagangan that reigned in Ife after Oduduwa. I am sure you are not confused about that. Osagangan has no blood relationship with Oduduwa, neither do his descendants as OONI. |
Re: Names Of Traditional Rulers In Yoruba Land by seunmsg(m): 3:27pm On May 15, 2019 |
Google7: Osangangan Obamakin was never a slave to Oduduwa. You also need to understand that Ile Ife was already in existence before Oduduwa got to the city. He met Ife aborigines in the city and these people have existing leadership. Oduduwa battled the aboriginal leadership of Ife and established the Ooni dynasty afterwards. After his death, there was no direct Oduduwa son to inherit the throne due to the fact that all of them have left Ife to found new cities. Consequently, Osangangan Obamakin, the leader of the aborigines was enthroned as the Ooni of Ife. He was succeeded by his son Ogun who was also succeeded by his son Obalufon Ogbogbodirin. Obalufon Alayemore succeeded Ogbogbodirin and it was during his time that Oranmiyan returned to Ife and forcefully hijacked the throne from Osangangan’s lineage. Obalufon Alayemore and his supporters were chased out of Ife and they settled in present day Efon-Alaye in Ekiti State. Oranmiyan consequently reinstated the direct Oduduwa lineage back to Ife throne and they remain the successors to Ife throne till today. 1 Like 1 Share |

seunmsg: Ogun wasn't related to osangangan Obamakin but odudua/Oshin descendant though, your postulation on Oranmian as he reinstated the throne back Odudua-duad-duadu-daodu lineage is quite true. This was with an account that a bloody civil war engulfed ileife. |
