You all keep blaming the politicians in Abuja for stealing forgetting that amongst this present generation are future politicians who will take over from the present crop. Have you forgotten that a leader is a reflection of his/her followers and society at large? What will you expect from someone like Davido or Naira marley if they suddenly finds themselves within the corridors of power in future? Will a Davido who openly supports yahoo boys see anything wrong in looting the treasury? Yet you people dream of a Nigeria with 24/7 power, infrastructures and other good things of life like other sane countries but you keep supporting people short changing the system.

I tried to do what any good general presenter should do: Make your points simple enough to be understood by a wide range of persons with a wide range of perspectives. Do you even have a solid background in macro economics? Do you even know that sudden shocks in supply that can arise from an outright ban will cause a sudden rise in prices? And to eliminate bias, the whole bunch of other suppliers will also adjust their prices to reflect the market even if they are not directly affected by the event causing the shortage in supply. (This is why even local producers of rice upped their prices after the importation ban even though they were not DIRECTLY affected by the ban, with time the whole value chain in rice adjusted to reflect the new hiked price caused by the supply shock in the market. This is why in no nearest future will rice return to average 9,000 for the maximum size bag before the ban.) But if Buhari had been advised to follow a procedure similar to what I proposed in my earlier post, two major thongs will have been achieve: First the importers won't have lost a major source of livelihood, because they would have been transitioned to major stakeholders in the local capacity development programme and the prices of rice would not have gone up rather, it would have gone down as there would have been no sudden shortage of rice,but a steady substitution of imported rice with locally produced rice gradually with the same funds formerly dedicated to importation and commodity boards would have ensured producers make a nice profit without making consumers suffer inflated prices. The method I put forth has many variations which can be applied wherever there is a need to substitute importation with local production.
