High demanding IT skills depend on which area, web dev, software dev, mobile, dev, DevOps(hottest kid on the block), AI(this is very broad), data science...........and so on.

But with Web Dev, you can't go wrong. (learn HTML, CSS, Javascript, Angular, React, ) for frontend. (Java, Php, Nodejs) for backend.

You can start with HTML CSS, then move to Javascript, and then React before Angular for frontend development.
For backend, I would say learn JAVAEE with ( Spring/Hibernate) and Nodejs. But if you are already proficient in Javascript, then perfect your backend skills with Nodejs and learn other frameworks to it.
All in all, programming is not all about what language you are proficient in, it is about how to analyse and solve problems. Your architecture and logic implementations are what makes you a good developer. This is where a good knowledge of data structures and algorithm come into play.

See just stay focus and forget all this IT hype, learn German and follow your passion. If you jump ship because people are saying so,hmm. The grass is not always green on the other side.

Bro, I would advise you to be humble, failing a course in Germany doesn't mean you are unserious. Wait till you come, then you see how different and intense it is to study here. Besides, overconfidence is a dangerous trait to bring over here. Once you fail an exam, it is difficult to pass it the second time without sacrificing something in your life, and if you fail the second time, the pressure of losing your student status will make you lose concentration when studying for the third trial.

Saying you have never failed an exam b4 ....hm no comment. I just hope you don't fail any when you get here.

You failed to add that when you go to the shopping mall, you stand there for hours praying you don't buy urine in place of ororo, or liquid detergent thinking its body soap.... And for the love of God, you hardly come by a product with English translations. Yeah! I understand thses things limits you.

You miss a lot of opportunities because of the language, i could have gotten an accommodation for free (in place of some little services) but couldn't get it because of the language barrier, ( a room in a flatshare here in nothing less than 400-500 euros by the way if you are lucky) landlords are choosy based on langauge, etc

Yeah! Staying in Munich can save you a lot of stress, its what they call "multi kulti" they almost all understand and speak English although they will always tell you "Nein/ja, ein bisschien" but same cannot be said of the outskirts, in fact their bavarian accents are so hard, it break stones. Although people here are EXTREMELY nice and helpful.
I have been to Bremen, Hamburg, Leipzig, Berlin, Oldenburg, Bamberg, Hannover, etc all recently, may be in some i spent only a few hours, and i can fully relate what victz and crowns2 are saying.

For prospective applicants, please learn as much as you can, you don't know where you might find yourself, even in places where English is widely spoken, its absolutely important you can speak or understand what is being spoken.

It's been a long time! People coming to Germany from Nigeria: study, study, and study, and prepared to study, study, and study when you get here! I now feel like I cheated myself into TUM. I used to take getting an A (above 70% in the university where I did my bachelor's in Nigeria) as being equivalent to the German 1.0. I didn't know one needed to be above about the 95th percentile to have a 1.0.

The reality of the matter dawned on me when I saw the result of my German as a Foreign Language A1.1+1.2 midsemester test. The teacher briefly returned the marked scripts to us so that we could make sure there was no mistake in the grading. I had 54.25 points out of a possible 68 -- just below 80%. I thought it was quite good until I saw the grade: 2.7! That many exchange students in my class still doing their bachelors' had 1.0s and 1 point somethings didn't help matters. I could make excuses that some of them might have studied German before, but I don't know that... The fact remains it was a 'below average score' (if we assume 2.5 to be average).

Heck, bachelor's grades better than 2.5 on the average was the requirement to get invited for the interview phase of my present programme in first place! I could still say, well, my grade in German doesn't affect my overall grade in my current programme, but... let me just say, I can't really tell until it's time for the exams, which is drawing nearer everyday, but here, even in the regular programme-related courses that I'm taking, I'm maybe an average student at best. In Nigeria, I used to be very, very good. So, my advise to those intending to come to Germany remains: study, study.

Lemme give my 2 cents worth of pointers. I know most people are all caught with the "Germany is a STEM country and you have to study STEM to have a good chance of staying". While that is true, it is NOT the whole truth. BWL (Business and Economic) programs are just as useful and might I add very popular here as well, and provided you plan well, you will succeed in this country even if you don't have a STEM degree. And if you feel like you must study IT sha, a lot of business courses these days have an IT component; for example "Management and Technology", "International Business and Infomatics", things like that.

For me however, the on and off love story I've had with IT has come to an end. I currently study Management and Technology at TUM where the technology part is ONLY 30 percent, but even the 30 percent no be here oh. There are certain classes I have to pass at the end of my second semester which I failed after writing one class exam once and the other twice. So I am transferring next semester to a full international Business program and leaving the IT part biko. Every mallam with im kettle.

Work wise, I will say I have done well for myself too. I got a job at Primark and did it for 3 months. In my second month, I started searching for werkstudent jobs, knowing that I was only in my first semester and my knowledge of German is basic. I luckily landed a job at a small market research firm and quickly left Primark. We lost a major client at the early part of this year and my firm was forced to do budget cuts, and so that prompted me to start searching again. Started searching in March and didn't get called for an interview till late April. Thankfully got the job and I start at Allianz Munich next month working in the HR department.

This German waka go teach you humility oh. I didn't really have any issues with getting admission but the amount of job rejections I've gotten ehn (Like Pompido rightly mentioned), you just need patience and humility.

Don't LET ANYONE tell you you cannot get werkstudent because your level of German is low, or that you have to study STEM to succeed in germany. Don't get me wrong it's harder to find jobs, but it is definitely possible, and in my field too.

One thing that I haven't done and would advise everyone to do is to learn German. I always tell myself I'll start next semester and then next semester comes and well... life happens LOL. I will get around to it later sha cause my new course makes it mandatory to be proficient at B2 level before graduating so mans has no choice. Personal development is very important as well, so if you're not the STEM type, try to take online courses in Excel, SAP, Project Management and other business intelligence courses. If possible, get a certification as well.

Anyway for Fabcol and anyone else interested, TL;DR: Stem isn't the only path to securing long-term stay in Germany.

my man magdeburg is cool...The people are friendly unlike what i heard but atimes the racism group springs up but they have anti racism groups that counter them always...The course work is the similar as what i did in FUTO.. i thought FUTO was stressing me, I neva knew they were training me for the future...the only difference here is that they haVe a different symbol in the normal chemical equations which we know in nigeria, so when u study it, u will adjust.. the only thing here is that you have so many things to read and cram too.. u will read and also cram cos they know u cant finish the questions within 2 hours, so speed ,matters ..imagine deriving and applying hundreds of equations similar to Arrhenius equations, runge kutta 4th order and raoults law and doing like 4 iterations in 2 hours? is it beans? so answer the questions .....is it easier in 9ja?, the language is a barrier everywhere in terms of job.

magdeburg is the capital city so most people speak english unlike my friend kelvinpalm wey dey complain about his city say if u no sabi speak german ..u r dead..

What's the secret of scoring high in German exams, is it the same method of reading a notebook or textbook and writing down what you have understood?, if that is the case, then I have absolutely no problem because I am used to such method
I love A (1.0) lining up in my result sheet like chains, I hate anything average score

What course did you study?? Geology I guess.
You are just generalizing and not making any reasonable sense. These people you are talking to are already in Germany and have first hand experience. You don’t even know their course of study or the kind of school they are currently in.
Don’t worry, when you get there, go make your A parallel in your geology.
Please, you don’t have to reply this guy.. he’ll understand last last, if he gets there. This is my first post on here, just been observing because I believe I can’t give real info yet until I get there this winter.
