If you have plans of staying and working in a developed country, go for nursing, if not choose pharmacy |

EVILFOREST: You took the word right out of my mouth. My Aunt attended college of health and got a placement at a private hospital where she's now a matron . She has over 10 years worth of experience taking care of lives and assisting Doctors perform surgeries and she's not doing badly. Last year, she got an employment offer from a major hospital in Lagos with an accommodation but she turned it down saying Government hospital is better . Nursing does it for me and you have a chance of operating patent medicine with less than #500k. 2 Likes 1 Share |

Chose nursing if your ambition is to travel abroad (direct hire from overseas)easily on your self effort without anybody's help . Practising in Nigeria is also good . Nursing is evolving in Nigeria university and many request for lecturers in nursing without success. Very few PhD holders in nursing unlike pharmacy. Chose pharmacy if you are really business inclined. Pharmacy has lots of employment opportunities but much of them is not paying except companies or government. Both courses are good because they will surely put a daily meal on your table and you will never lack employment . 8 Likes 1 Share |

EVILFOREST: Only if you know the peanuts Nurses earn as salaries. about 90% of the hospitals in Nigeria pay them an amount that is not up to Doctors call duty allowance as salaries. Talking about opportunities outside Nigeria, how many of such opportunities exist? At least more than 90% of nurses who want to travel to such countries have not gotten the job. So it's not like the job is littered everywhere. So I Would advise her to go for Pharmacy because of its diverse opportunities. Nurses are only stereotyped in giving care to sick patients. That's why you could easily see other professionals including the pharmacists venturing into other practices like business, politics, banking etc. But it's like days dreaming and a very tall order to see a nurse outside nursing practice. Even with the poor pay as salaries which leaves them always agonizing. 3 Likes |

Period007:pls carefully read his comment again. He never says nurses earn or well paid than pharmacist anywhere, he is just been real not assuming. Pharmacist in Western countries are not limited as pharmacist store attendants but real lab. Works 1 Like 2 Shares |

please go for nursing, in Nigeria there are more job opportunities in health care sector for nursing graduate than pharmacy, moreover pharmacy is now becoming obsolete in nigeria except if they are being employ in pharmaceutical industry. 1 Like |

Am talking about the road to abroad. Is more easier for nurses to travel than pharmacists. Ofcourse with money , anyone can travel abroad But nurses find it more easier and their visa is Permanent Resident Visa. Pharmacy is good but you need more rigorous processs if at you succeed to get permanent resident visa direct from Nigeria . Most pharmacists use Master degree programme to travel and it takes them years to get Permanent Resident Visa 12 Likes 1 Share |

Period007: I think i know why evilforest made that statement. Nurses are more in demand overseas. Almost all developed country if not all are in high shortage of nurses and it has been like that like forever. The jobs are in small cities and towns of developed countries. Infact, the Canadian goverment are always willing to pay off student loans of citizen nurses that would like to practice in a remote location for a few years after grad. When i lived in the UK, nhs was always conducting recruitment drives to bring over nurses from Kerala in India. Generally speaking, pharmacists are paid higher but there are some disciplines within nurses that earn as much and sometimes even higher e.g nurse practitioners. Nurse often get lots of OT hours too. Finally, it takes longer for a nigerian pharmacy to get a license to practice compared to nurses. Note. My wife is a practising pharmacist in North America and have a sister that's a nurse in the UK. Only issue i see with nursing is that the stress no get part 2. If the op does not intend to leave Nigeria, then pharmacy is the surest deal. 11 Likes 2 Shares |

Please I have a friend who wrote the just concluded JAMB. She Chose Medicine but her JAMB scores is 201. I believe that score wouldn't be enough for her choice. But what I don't know is if it would be enough for Nursing. Besides, when can she apply for change of course? Please treat as urgent. Thanks |

maxman007:I doubt 201 will be enough for nursing except things have changed or the school is one of those mushroom schools. When i gained admission into a federal uni in the west back in year 2000, the cut-off score for nursing was the highest in that year due to the demand for nurses overseas. 3 Likes 1 Share |

Period007:Yes he is correct! Pharmacist find it difficult to secure a job both in Nigeria and abroad. Many Nigerians that studied pharmacy do go back to study nursing abroad because they find it hard to secure a job with their pharmacy degree. What you don't know, don't argue it 5 Likes 1 Share |

salford1:Tell them! Pharmacy has less prospect abroad and even in Nigeria. Its not about the pay, its about the ease of securing a job and starting a happy life. Nurses are in high demand all over the world even in Nigeria. The only issue is nurses are not well paid in Nigeria compared to abroad but you can hardly find a jobless or unemployed graduate nurse, very rare, but there are hundreds if not thousands of unemployed pharmacists. Most Nigerians abandon their pharmacy degree abroad to go back to study nursing to enable them get job faster. Like u said, the only thing is bed side nursing is stressful. There are nurse administrators too who earn higher than most medical practitioners. Nursing is versed with evergreen prospect all over the world and it will remain so as global population increases, more people will need care needs 6 Likes |

frozen70:A nurse is also qualified to open a pharmacy! A nurse with some years of maternity and child can open a maternity home and turn to overnight millionaire in Nigeria in one room with the rate Nigerians give birth and desire to give birth. Nursing has more prospect than pharmacy all over the world! 1 Like |

frozen70: lol. and you think its that easy to open a pharmacy shop. lets reason like an average nigerian, where will a strugling young man/lady see money to open a pharmacy. To me, nursing is preferable, because there are oportunities available all around for them, even if its a small job, thy can manage, but never run out of jobs options |

if you wanna practice in Nigeria, pharmacy is the best option. if you wanna travel out, go for nursing. |
Re: B.Pharmacy Or Bsc Nursing? by Nobody: 4:25pm On May 17, 2019 |
Period007:I am not saying they are more paid. Get me STRAIGHT, NURSES have a structured system in the U.S. it’s easier and faster to get a JOB as a NURSE in the U.S. NURSING JOBS in DIASPORA are ubiquitous and not like the pharmaceuticals... By the way NIGERIA PHARMACEUTICALS need to do a more thorough job. They are more interested in fighting the Nigerian Doctors a NIGERIAN PHARMACIST coming to the U.S. will eventually end up as a NURSE... 1 Like 2 Shares |
