NPF meds serious over hauling and professionalism. People will be so reluctant to help in such critical situation.
Police wasn't wrong to have arrested them. They were deemed prime suspects. Even in a developed country and looking at the situation at hand an arrest can be made immediately of any suspecting person being a murder case.
Let's thank God that they were exonerated. The idiot guy almost implicated others with his stupidly.

Nazarethnaza:
A Nigerian doctor who tried to rescue the gospel Minister, Michael Aworosaiye, who committed suicide, has revealed how a CCTV footage of the incident saved him from arrest. Dr. Daniel Eitokpah's brother who revealed that he was detained after the incident, had posted a series of videos on Wednesday, with a caption that read in part, “My brother, a medical doctor, along with two onlookers were detained for trying to help resuscitate a young man who committed suicide yesterday. The police have him held for no reason; they named them as suspects, and asked them to write statements without any reason for detaining them.”

The doctor who was saved from arrest by the CCTV footage after he tried to rescue the gospel Minister who committed suicide,  lived in Sunnyvale Estate and he reportedly graduated from Ternopil State Medical School, Ukraine in 2016 and completed his house job at the National Hospital, Abuja, is a National Youth Service Corps member.

On being saved by the CCTV Footage, he noted that the DPO from the moment he appeared at the scene, kept addressing him in a demeaning manner.

“We explained to the DPO everything that happened, how we heard a guy shouting for help and went there. I explained to him that I thought it was something that had just happened and tried to resuscitate him. I explained everything I did to him and his response was, ‘You are a doctor. You should know that you are not meant to tamper with the evidence.’ I tried to explain to him that the information we got was that the guy was in the act; if there was an iota of life in that guy, at least, we should give him a chance.

“Shortly after, the commissioner of police came in and I heard the DPO telling the CP, ‘We have arrested three suspects.’ I felt that the statement meant a lot. The DPO, the CP, my father, my pastor and church members of the deceased went back to the scene of the suicide.“God just had it that there were CCTV cameras around the house. There was one directly facing the entrance of the boys’ quarters where the guy had hanged himself. That was our saving grace. It showed everything—how the suicide took place. Immediately they saw we were not guilty, they made a call to the police station to prepare for our release”

So that's how a patriotic Nigerian would have been in life imprisonment or killed for nothing.

Our police men are just incompetent. Even commissioner of police follow dey clueless.

Chai. I repeat some in prison are innocent. They were just victims of circumstances. May it not be our portion.

A whole DPO,look at how he jumped to conclusion,no wonder their junior officers even do worst things, this is truly a shithole country, Now they will say police is your friend and pass informations to them, what kind of stupid friend that will turn your good intentions to bad as their evidence, what a crazy country

anytime a crime scene happened within 20 minutes you will see the Nigeria police saying we have arrested the suspects involved in the crime.

no intelligence or investigation done or whatever? but they have magically attested and paraded the suspects.

100% of the time are just innocent victims.

if Americans should arrest a suspect after a crime you will see the evidence via TV news channels.

Nigerian police and suspects are cojoined. Well, I seriously don't blame them. They lack training for forensic investigations and depend on their instincts and greed in conducting inquiry into incidents. Infact, it's so bad that even passersby end up as their so called 'Suspects'

We need to launch a Campaign on #RevampNPF

Nigeria Police has to be the most unreasonable police in the world, You see people with a dead man and without investigating the situation conclude these people are responsible for the death of the victim.. And after one identified himself as a Doctor and that they were trying to resuscitate the victim, you said he should know better not to tamper with evidence, I ask.. Evidence of what exactly, that it was happening or what, even if someone had no sign of life in them, A doctors instinct is to try to see if such person can still be saved, so if there were no CCTV, this Police would have charged this men for murder abi. How?
This country is 4ked up in so many ways

Illetrate policemen are not interested in saving lives but in evidence! Victims of gun shot wound must obtain police reports first before they can be treated!

Why not treat and obtain report while the victims are recovering. In an organized society you dial 911! The medical, firefighters and police team will come over to save lives. Try that at your own peril in this country.

How can we move forward when we keep doing things wrongly?

Sadly enough, our lawmakers are not better off. They would spend four years in office with no meaningful bill passed. All we are interested in is money. Money in a cesspool is a waste.

We need people who have it upstairs in leadership no matter how small the position is in this country.!
gunshot victim? u don too go far. This days victim of (car)hit and run, must obtain police reports before any treatment.

This is the reason people always mind their business in Nigeria. Report an incident to the police and you became a prime suspect, trying rescuing accident victims nko yawa go gas you......The police needs reformation.

They had passed the bill for the treatment of gun shot wound before obtaining police report.
We are only waiting for when it will be implemented.

The other day a guy had a terrible asthma attack on my street, I wanted to help him to the hospital .. rushed to the nearest police station to request for an escort, luckily the DPO was reasonable and detailed one of his men to follow me to the scene.. omo the guy was just raking and whining all through with emphasis on “ wetin concern us? no be our job”. The irony of the whole issue is that, if that guy had died on the street, they will start conducting heavy raids on innocent young chaps living around there, looking for what is not lost..

The Nigerians Police as usual displaying low IQ.

Or is it possible that because if all they have seen it makes our Police force jaded, mistrustful, suspicious of everyone even to the extent of being suspicious of victims?

Sue the DPO and next time make sure you get his name and mentioned in this article, so that the whole world will know how dumb he is. He must never be promoted. He'll retire and die as a mid-level police officer. Just imagine the number of innocent guys he must have put in jail as a result of his lack of investigative tact.

My brother, no doubt, the police needs witness for every case but how do they treat their witness? I believe you read the part where he said the DPO was using demeaning words on them even before interrogation.

In developed countries like you stated above, 'Arrests' are made for interrogations, the suspects right not violated and they are released within 24hrs as stipulated by the law. They may be invited for further questioning as the case goes on but not a total restriction and violation of their right as long as they have not been proven guilty.

In this case, the DPO had started treating them with demeanour. Apparently, if the CCTV camera had not been the saving grace, it would have been a sorry case for them. The DPO even said the Doctor 'tampered with evidence?' I wonder how he would have tried resuscitating the victim without touching him...except he his a miracle worker like T.B. Joshua.

The DPO while giving the 'situation report' to his boss said, 'the suspects have been arrested.' As a Nigerian, you know what it means to be tagged a suspect by the police.

Every policeman is 'fighting' for promotion and wants to be seen as being 'active,' especially the DPOs, and they would do whatever it takes to get to the top even it takes the innocent.

Yes, the dead guy almost put them in a mess but the police shouldn't make it difficult to get help in this country. We have victims of unfortunate circumstances dying daily because people are afraid to help...victims that could have been saved if not for Police wahala.
