UP Faults Fg’s Downgrading Of Enugu Airport by Nobody: 1:27pm On May 18, 2019 |
The United Patriots have described the decision of the Federal Government to downgrade the Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu from handling international operations because of its inability to expand the runway as an act capable of crippling the economy of the South-East. The party’s acting National Chairman, Chukwudi Ezeobika said this in a statement made available to journalists in Abuja on Saturday. Ezeobika further described the development as an act capable of undermining national interest and unity. He said the decision was a clear sign of ineptitude on the part of the government, adding that it is against the spirit of an inclusive government. The party chairman said, “The unfortunate plan as disclosed by the Minister of State for Aviation, Hadi Sirika, at the 6th Aviation Stakeholders’ Forum in Lagos on Friday, May 17, 2019, has the tendency and capacity to totally halt the already deplorable and already battered economic conditions in the South-Eastern region of the country. “It is the responsibility of the Federal Government to enforce aviation regulations and laws within and outside our federal airports and the blame on the government of Enugu State by the Aviation Ministry is not only ridiculous but highly mischievous and misplaced. “Being the only international gateway to the South-Eastern region, Nigerians must rise up and jointly condemn this unpatriotic decision that is about to be unjustly carried out by the APC-led Federal Government against the Nigerian people and which act, undermines the unifying spirit fought for and defended by our forebears. “With billions of taxpayers money budgeted and approved yearly for the upkeep, expansion and maintenance of the country’s federal airports, the Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu has remained the only international airport in Nigeria to receive the needed attention it deserves. “In view of the foregoing, it has become expedient for the APC-led Federal Government to look inwards and refrain from acts capable of undermining our true federalism and federal character and immediately move to investigate the budgets and funding of the Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu since the inception of this administration.” https://punchng.com/up-faults-fgs-downgrading-of-enugu-airport/?fbclid=IwAR1Qmx8i5vyZnH3teT7wdjsjrHeGXR2qgwGWYez6YkANyDKZz6nLJ3_7QkI 5 Likes |

Osagyefo98: You must be too biased to see your nose. What happened to the obligation of the FG to maintain the airport? What happened to the monies budgeted for the upkeeps by the Ministry of Aviation. Why is this the only one neglected by the APC govt is it because of its geographic location? Nigeria has been doomed since 1960. Nothing good will come out of this country with a mindset like that. 62 Likes 3 Shares |

See how our so called members of the National Assembly and Governors from the south-east haven’t said kpim! The efulefu Igbos in APC that claim Igbos need to be represented in APC...that we shouldn’t put all our eggs in one basket have said fuc’k-all! People like me that know all what Buhari and APC is about ain’t surprised one bit! After now, people castigating Ndigbo for having no time for these wicked people will begin to feign ignorance of their wickedness towards us and be asking ‘why do Igbos dislike Buhari and APC?’ 33 Likes 1 Share |

I sincerely feel Nigeria does not need more than one international airport in Lagos. The airport should be upgraded to a world class standard and maintained adequately. A back up international airport in Abuja is also acceptable. Then there should be high speed trains to every major city in Nigeria. E.g Abuja, awka, ph, Data should be utilized to better understand the final destination of most passengers and then the top 15 states should get high speed trains linking them directly from the airport. International Air travel in Nigeria hasn’t grown to the level where we need multiple airports. We should 6 Likes |

which kind of mindset is this Biko? if I'm not mistaken that's the only recognized international airport in East. on no normal circumstances should an airport be shut down by the FG/ministry of aviation when the same FG/ministry of aviation refuse to do their responsibility on the expansion is the federal govt shutting it to expand the runaway tarmac or abandoning it totally because of inability to expand it with the negligence of the authority? is this how Buhari tends to unite Nigerians? with bad impression? 4 Likes |

Osagyefo98: The government can easily reorganize the place ,it may be a political game for them to reach a compromise. It is a bad decision if that airport is closed because am sure it generates more money than some airports in other parts of Nigeria. 1 Like |
