Enugu Govt approves further works on Int’l Conference Centre

…Okays extension works on road, court building projects

The administration of Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State, in furtherance of its concerted efforts to ensure the completion of the hitherto abandoned Enugu International Conference Centre, has approved the procurement and installation of external glass at the main auditorium of the edifice.

The administration also approved that the installation will be extended to the mini dome at the centre and extension works on the ongoing Court of Appeal building to accommodate the litigation/administrative office and basement.

Addressing newsmen on further outcome of the meeting of the State Executive Council (EXCO), the state Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Engr. Greg Nnaji, added that the council equally approved the extension of Ibagwa-Aka-Alor Agu road and additional erosion control works along Ngwo Adaba General Hospital, Ichi road and Ibagwa-Ichi-Unadu-Alor Agu road all in Igbo-Eze South Local Government Area.

Engr. Nnaji disclosed that his ministry had installed street lights around the located areas of the International Conference Centre to provide security and “allow work at night”.

Also briefing newsmen, the Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Hon. Rita Mbah, stated that the council equally approved a free training of 200 youths in the state in film and creativity.

Hon. Mbah pointed out that the state government will sponsor the participation of the 200 youths in the training programme, which is being organized by the popular African Movie Academy Awards (AMAA).

She added that the aim of the government’s involvement was to ensure that talented youths in creativity, who are interested in film industry, garner experience in the basic rudiments of movie making, acting, script writing and production, marketing, among others, to make them self-reliant.

The culture and tourism commissioner, who revealed that there is no qualification criteria required from any interested candidate to apply for the training, explained that the state government’s initiative is also targeted at giving the participants the opportunity to learn how to write proposals after training, to access part of the N500 million loan earmarked by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) for the creative industry.

According to her, “interested participants are requested to register without payment of fees with the Ministry of Culture and Tourism at the State Secretariat, Enugu”.

On the closure of Orie Emene Market and abattoir near the Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu as well as the immediate removal of illegal structures encroaching on the land of the airport for the safety of air travelers and people residing around the airport, the Commissioner for Information, Mr. Ogbuagu Anikwe, further explained that the council directed the Chairman of Enugu East Local Government Area to find a location site for the traders, immediately.

It would be recalled the EXCO in its earlier briefing yesterday, ordered the immediate closure of Orie Emene Market and abattoir near the airport and the immediate removal of all illegal structures encroaching on the land of the airport, following safety concerns raised by Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) on potential air hazards in and around the airport.

The council directed the Chairman of Enugu East Local Government Area to effect the immediate closure of the market”, explaining that “the State Executive Council had on 12th October, 2018 approved funds for relocation of the State Broadcast Mast on the approach of the runway to Okpatu Hill (Ugwu Rerenkwu) in Udi Local Government Area but the implementation of this project has been hampered by the disruptive activities of some youths in the community”.

It further directed the “immediate cessation of all hostilities against the project as any further interference will attract the full wrath of the Law given that the government has paid all the necessary compensation”.

According to the state government, “the Traditional Rulers of Okpatu communities and Town Union Leadership are hereby called upon to ensure full compliance with the above directives”.

Trash as usual. Why is this man making so much noise about a conference Centre that was 70percent completed by Chimaroke before his tenure expired.

If you have been to Ebonyi State lately you will marvel at the level of aggressive infrastructural development that has gone far in keeping Enugu State in shadows while porridge leaking psycophants in Enugu will be celebrating mediocrity: posting photos of 4lenghts of 6inch steel pipe excavated for repairs.

All the roads in Uwani, Kenyetta Road, the whole of Idaw River Layout (umuchu, Mount, Ikiriki, Omachiana, Ozalla) is amongst the worst, look at the whole Achara Layout: Awkunanaw Street, Etudo, Obianodo, Igbariam, Unubi, Ubaka to mention but a few. I don't want to talk about the roads in Abakpa or the ones in Emene but remember to wear diving gears if you want to follow Annunciation HOSPITAL road or Sooil Plaza Road. The roads are terribly in deplorable conditions so are all adjoining roads in their respective axis.

All the link roads from Enugu-PH express are terrible: the road linking the express to and from Amaechi flyover, the road linking Enugu - PH express to and from Ugwuaji fly over, Ugwuaji road is death trap, Oji River link road to Enugu - Onitsha Express to mention but a few.
Almost all the primary and secondary schools in the state are in deplorable condition.

The State Library before Ogbete is a house of rodents and hudlums.. His predecessors left high standards that he has never come close to making a match.

Sullivan did marvelously well, look at Akwatta in Ogbete, a right thinking Governor should have made it a priority to complement Sullivan's achievements on the road by doing something to the two roads leading to and from the market knowing fully well that the place contributes considerable quota in IGR of the state. Same goes to the industrial layout at Red Cross Road at Holy Ghost and the defunct Industrial Estate at Zik Avenue after First Bank before MTN office.

Rural Communities like Ogulogu in Ezeagu, Iwollo etc will believe that Christ's second coming will happen more quickly than their roads receiving government attention.

He knows he has done nothing commensurate with the funds the state is receiving from federal government that's why he spends a lot on image laundering.

I want to ask you these questions:

1. Should the govt abandon the rural areas and concentrate all its resources on the capital city alone?

2. I agreed that the ICC may have reached 70 percent completion as at 2007 but dont you think that abandoning the project for 8 good years would have caused some damages to the structures?

i agree that Ugwuanyi may not have performed creditably well but we need to be objective in our criticism

Ugwuanyi does not come close to what Sullivan did in Enugu. He’s a definition of mediocre. I’m sure he knows how below average his performance is and decided to use propagandist to do image laundry for him.

See how bad the Coal city looks now, the non functional traffic lights and ever increasing pot holes everywhere.

Is there any other LG in the rural area that has any project apart from Nsukka axis?

No one is against carrying out the remaining 30percent completion of the ICC project but the hype is more than the project. There are countless things that need attention and the money being wasted in sponsoring noise in all media can help in completing some projects.

It is really commendable...I was pissed about the guy ranting that the conference centre is no project and that it was already 70% completed. Some people are are so full of accumulated anger that they don't see anything good in anything. That's really pitiable.
