What does the law do? Under New York’s previous law, which had been in place since 1970, abortion was legal during the first 24 weeks of pregnancy. After 24 weeks, a pregnant woman could only get an abortion if her life was at risk. The newly enacted Reproductive Health Act expands on what’s legal after 24 weeks, allowing a woman to get an abortion after 24 weeks if her health is threatened, not just her life, and if the fetus would be unable to survive outside the womb. The new law also moves abortion regulations from the state’s criminal code to the health code, thereby removing the threat of criminal prosecution for medical professionals who perform abortions. And it allows nurse practitioners, physician assistants and licensed midwives, in addition to doctors, to provide abortions. Democratic lawmakers had attempted to pass such a law for years in New York, but it previously failed to pass the Republican-controlled State Senate. In November, Democrats won back control of the State Senate for the first time in nearly a decade. And New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, a Democrat, vowed to take the opportunity to broaden reproductive rights for women. 1 Like |

BraniacX:Verbatim quote from the word's of Virginia's democratic governor Ralph Northam "If a mother is in labor, I can tell you exactly what would happen, The infant would be delivered. The infant would be kept comfortable. The infant would be resuscitated if that’s what the mother and the family desired , and then a discussion would ensue between the physicians and the mother.” You might also want to Google the debate about a late term abortion bill proposed by a democratic Virginia state legislator called Kathy Tran. wirinet:You are right in calling it murder. The point I am making is that the lunatic liberals are now talking about legalizing infanticide. if the mother doesn't like the child she gave birth to, the doctors will basically deny the baby the needed medical attention and allow the already born baby to die if the mother so desires. This is exactly the newest madness that we are getting from the ever depraved lunatic liberals 7 Likes 1 Share |

The born alive bill was introduced by republican senator Ben sasse to make it mandatory for doctors to provide medical care to children born alive whether the parents likes to keep it or not but the lunatic democrats refused to vote for it because they prefer the baby is allowed to die. All these democrats supporters on nairaland are sounding so ignorant and uninformed about these things. 9 Likes 1 Share |

Republican Justin Amash Claims Donald Trump Engaged in ‘Impeachable Conduct https://www.breitbart.com/politics/2019/05/18/justin-amash-claims-donald-trump-engaged-in-impeachable-conduct/ Rep. Justin Amash (R-MI) became the first Republican congressman to accuse President Donald Trump of engaging in “impeachable conduct,” citing findings laid out in special counsel Robert Mueller’s report on now-debunked collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia during the 2016 presidential election. Often a lone Republican voice in Congress, Amash sent a series of tweets Saturday faulting both President Trump and Attorney General William Barr over Mueller’s report. Mueller wrapped the investigation and submitted his report to Barr in late March. Barr then released a summary of Mueller’s “principal conclusions” and released a redacted version of the report in April. In a summary to Congress, Barr said Team Mueller concluded that the Trump campaign did not collude with Russia. Further, the attorney general stated Mueller did not reach a conclusion on whether President Trump obstructed justice, stating that he and Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein determined that the president had not done so. Amash said he reached four conclusions after carefully reading the redacted version of Mueller’s report, including that “President Trump has engaged in impeachable conduct.” “Contrary to Barr’s portrayal, Mueller’s report reveals that President Trump engaged in specific actions and a pattern of behavior that meets the threshold for impeachment,” the congressman tweeted. He said the report “identifies multiple examples of conduct satisfying all the elements of obstruction of justice, and undoubtedly any person who is not the president of the United States would be indicted based on such evidence.” However, Amash stopped short of calling on Congress to begin impeachment proceedings against President Trump, which many Democrats have been agitating for.

Anduku:and exactly what way does the highlighted interpret into infanticide or as the other guy put it "aborting already born babies"? A late term abortion bill is still an issue of choice, the mother's choice! And spare me your hypocritical conservative moral pro-life outrage! You champion conservatives who are so pro-life they care little to nothing about the already living championing exploitative medico-pharmaceutical unbridled capitalism of as much good health as you can afford. And oh! Don't play dumb on that either |
Re: American Politics Thread - 2024 Elections — Biden’s Presidency! by Anduku: 9:34pm On May 20, 2019 |
BraniacX:English comprehension seems not to be your Forte. So after reading the highlighted portions of my comment, you still could not see the blatant infanticide therein? Or is it that you are just deliberately acting dumb like I said earlier? If an infant is only to be resuscitated if the mother desires it, then what happens to the living infant if the mother doesn't? As for the rest of your incoherent rantings, I don't 't expect anything less from characters like you, once you are exposed in an attempted falsehood, you attempt to divert by jumping into another falsehood or simply engage in a meaningless angry rant. So if I am to believe you, conservatives are responsible for high drug prices? And pray how is that so? Reducing drug prices has always been one of the top priorities of the Trump administration and drug prices are actually coming down during his tenure. I will be waiting for your answers on how conservatives are championing exploitative Medico-pharmaceutical practices as you claim but you might want to read the following articles from your liberal leaning news sites before you launch into another meaningless rant https://www.usatoday.com/story/opinion/2018/10/22/trump-health-agenda-transparent-drug-prices-lower-insurance-costs-column/1721645002/ https://www.nytimes.com/2019/02/05/health/drug-prices-rebates-sotu.html 7 Likes 1 Share |

budaatum:I only explained what the governor of Virginia said to the person I was responding to. You can read his verbatim quote in the earlier posts I made. He blatantly advocated for parents and doctor to have the right to refuse medical attention to an already born child unless the parents want to keep it. It was in response to his outrageous comments that senator Ben sasse introduced the born alive bill to make it mandatory for doctors to provide medical care to children born alive whether the parents likes to keep it or not but the lunatic democrats refused to vote for it. Why on earth will any sane person vote against a bill that seeks to guarantee medical attention for any baby born alive? 8 Likes |

Mindfulness:The person who made that comment has already explained why he used the word abortion and put it in parenthesis but you decide to deliberately avoid the facts he was stating and chose to continue dwelling on his choice of words. You can continue in your self deceit but the evidence is out there that a lunatic leader in the democratic party advocated for infanticide and lunatic democrat lawmakers refused to vote for a bill that guarantees medical services for children born alive 7 Likes |

Fact check: Did Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam state he 'would execute a baby after birth' Speaking about abortion, Trump said, "we had the case of governor of Virginia where he stated he would execute a baby after birth." A spokesman for the governor, Ralph Northam, disputed this characterization of confusing remarks he made days ago — and it should be noted that Northam was discussing a hypothetical procedure that would occur only in cases of severe deformities or nonviable pregnancy. Nonetheless, he caused a firestorm when he responded to a question related to a proposed state law that would have made it somewhat easier for a woman to obtain an abortion later in a pregnancy for medical reasons. Asked on a radio program what happens when a woman is going into labor who desires a third-trimester abortion, Northam noted that this kind of procedure only occurs in cases of severe deformities or nonviable pregnancy. He said that in this scenario, “the infant would be resuscitated if that’s what the mother and the family desired, and then a discussion would ensue between the physicians and the mother.” It’s worth noting that the proposed Virginia law — which failed to pass the Republican-controlled legislature — wasn’t proposing legalizing abortions in the third trimester; that is are already legal in the state. The bill proposed changing the number of physicians required for that kind of abortion’s approval — from three to one doctor. It also proposed broadening the list of health concerns that would allow a woman to seek approval for such an abortion. |

budaatum:Nice try at misdirection, you and your fake news NBC can only pull that wool over the eyes of your fellow Dumbocrats. no one on this forum accused him of saying he would "execute babies after birth" so stop fact checking things nobody here said anyway. What he said and which you have confirmed in your fake fact check is that if a baby is born alive after the mother desired an abortion, then the doctors will only resuscitate the baby if the mother so wishes. The question we have been asking which all of you are masterfully avoiding is, what if the mother and the family do not wish for the baby to be resuscitated? Governor Northam's comment is a very plain advocacy for infanticide. If a baby born alive will only be given medical care if the mother desires it then he is essentially saying that if the mother doesn't want it then the baby should be allowed to die. This comment prompted the Republicans in the senate to introduce a bill that makes it compulsory for doctors to provide medical care for babies born alive whether the mother wishes it or not but the democrats in congress voted against it which brings me to my second question, why would any sane person vote against a bill to guarantee medical care for any child born alive? 6 Likes |

Another disturbing trend I am seeing here is the the lunatic dems see.m to be justifying infanticide by saying it's only in a case of a child born with deformity. So children who are born with deformities don't have a right to life and can only live at the discretion of their parents? Wow!! The "proposed state law would have made it somewhat easier for a woman to obtain an abortion later in a pregnancy for medical reasons", and "abortions in the third trimester are already legal in the (Republican led) state". If such battles are going on over abortions, I wonder why you think they'd all of a sudden jump to "execute a baby after birth", as Trump put it! |
