platorepublic: I currently get 18hrs 45mins on my Junior Max(8.5L full), and I use 5 Ceiling fans, 2 Dstv Decoders and 2 TVs - that's over 2hrs a litre. If one uses, maybe 1 or 2 fans, 1 TV, you could easily get up to 3hrs on 1 litre. Remember, the more load on the gen, the more fuel consumption. |
Re: Professor On Any Type Of Generator. by Nobody: 9:39pm On May 11, 2019 |
Tripitaka: It can power the 2 easily. But make sure you do not overload it with other powerful app/elect aside these two, except TV. |

On the thermool gen specifications, they put that those gens can atimes take 4 acs and fridge plus some other appliances. Are they talking of inverter generators, because it looks strange that a 5Kw to 6.5 Kw gens can do this. |

Good day Prof and the other generator experts in the house. We need a small gen to power some appliances overnight. I'm about to purchase a Sumec Firman SPG 2200 because of the running or rated power of 1500W. The seller says it's overstated and that it has the same capacity with Sumec Firman eco 1990s with a running/rated power of 1300W, but i saw the SPG on sumec's website as having a rating of 1.8kva/1.5kva. Please how true is this seller's claim? If I opt for the eco1990s, would it be able to power an american design refridgerator, having a power rating of 85W, 220-240V and 0.4A with it? Other appliances to be powered overnight are 3 wall fans(40W each), a CCTV monitor (30W), a digital video recorder-DVR (I did not see any rating on this one) and 8 cameras. The refridgerator and fans however are the priority appliances to be powered overnight. Thanks for your help. |

Good evening gents, Please does anyone have any idea what would make a generator make the sound that it makes when there's no fuel in it and trip off?? That is, There is fuel in the generator but it makes the "no fuel sound" and goes off after a while. Please help |

Re: Professor On Any Type Of Generator. by gbekumoyan(f): 1:16am On May 16, 2019 |
lilclin: Thanks Lilclin. Both generators are going for N45,000. That can be upped if necessary. Low running cost and low noise level are very important since generator will be running overnight. Both generators offer 5.5L (Eco 1990s) and 8L (SPG 2200) of gas for 7 and 9 hours at 75% and 50% load. I'll appreciate a response to the questions asked though. |
Re: Professor On Any Type Of Generator. by lilclin(m): 7:55am On May 16, 2019 |
gbekumoyan:most of these ratings on medium sized gen even big ones are not true... But still the 2200 have slightly more power over the 1990s eco.. so calculate the total watts of appliances you have or want the gen to power |

Good evening Prof. I have the Thermocool Optima Series 9200RS. I got it tokunbo at a warehouse. Been using for a while now and it's okay. The generator is rated 6.5kw (6500watts). there's no problem with everyday home usage like TV, Sound systems, Lights and Fans. Yesterday, I tried using my 2500w-3000w electric jug on it... when I switch the jug power on, my lights starts flickering (the gen is placed far away from my flat) so I don't know what it's sound is like that moment. I was wondering why the 3000Watts jug would pull the gen. What could be the problem? Cos I actually got the gen so I can use most of my power guzzling appliances like Microwave, Iron, and Electric Kettle with ease I do use my washing machine on the gen very well and I don't see any light dim when I power it. |

Good evening prof, please I just bought this brand new 2.8kva elepaq senwei generator. It's working perfectly but the problem I'm having is that it consumes too much fuel. Like 4 litres of fuel lasts for just 3 hours 30 minutes. You know the price of fuel is quite high. This gen is consuming too much money from me. Please what is the way out? |

So, thanks to everyone who helped out with my questions on which gen to buy. I eventually decided against the TEC junior max because I learned that even though it would carry my freezer, it would be stressful and would likely degrade performance over time. I went with the SUMEC SPG 3000. Cost 77k. Great gen so far. AVR and all that so no issues. Fuel economy is stellar too - full 15 litre tank gets me around 22 - 24 hours. Highly recommended. Thanks, prof @enochogaga, lilcin and everyone else. 3 Likes |
