GA is not a loan.
It is a current assets.
Also having multiple bank statements shows more funding options.
Which limits the burden on a single individual.
#mythought.

Multiple bank statments for GA ...........why would anybody want to do that . The VO doesnt have to know that it takes a whole village to send one person to school in America . Personally i would keep it simple and use one bank statment if i have full Graduate assistantship (GA)

Getting a GA and Going through Loans are two different things . The original question asked to Bracelum was not relating to GA

What he talked about sponsor was going through a Loan pathway
Thank you for your time my good sister and bracelum.
Actually, I am new here.
I got my admission through this platform.
I have a deficit of almost $10k with full RA position.
My school said I can send two bank statements for my i-20.
One of my uncle's has $11k balance and the second has $5k balance.

What I am going to do?

where did you get that information from ............ The most reliable source is your school and not me(what do i know tongue)

Did you get the figure of times two from the school ?, if yes then that the requirement . Best to go and check with that on what minimum balance they require

I sat down and considered the cost for the four years and honestly, was not very sure. . . Lol cheesy
Hes not my biological son so i honestly dunno IF i will be able and willing to cough out over $10 grand per year for him. We finally picked the second uni (Stonybrook)

My boy just got his visa today. YAY

Im so happy for the boy. He was denied at first trial in Jan(Mom given though), we quickly registered for SAT,deffered his admission and booked another interview appointment for July. For some reasons, the embassy mailed us that they have rescheduled his interview and boom, he was approved some hours ago.

His parents who were indifferent initially about this US stuff are now overjoyed. Thanks to all the people who helped with my questions
when he was denied did he return back the form 120 to the school ,if so how does he do that

@ Lagosismyhome and other experienced guys here, plz would appreciate your kind advice

Currently filling my DS-160 form and on the section of who will fund this travel, since I have a full graduate assistantship without any deficit,

1. Is it proper if I put the details of my department, since they are the provider of my funding.

2. Is it a must to go to the interview with SOA, even though I dont have any deficit in my I-20, because some people have advised that I go with SOA just in case the VO asked and that I should fill the details of the SOA provider on the space on who is funding this travel.

Plz really need your inputs, because I'm confused now and this issue has made me pause from filling the form for over a week now

I put "self" as the person funding the travel. I also didn't go to the interview with any statement of account since I got full funding.

I think if you have it, it's not a bad idea.

Visa approved this morning at the Lagos consulate.
Got to the embassy around 5:30am for a 6:30am appointment. Joined the queue, did my biometrics and proceeded Window 2 for my interview. My interview was very short. This is my transcript as I remember:

V.O: Good morning.
Me: Good morning. How was your weekend.
V.O: Very well. Can you pass your documents please?
*passes documents and she examines them for about 10 seconds
V.O: So How did you get to know about this school?
Me: When I decided to apply to graduate school, I made research online about schools that offered research on grid integration of renewable energy resources and I came about Auburn University, amongst others.
V.O: How many other schools did you apply to?
Me: 8
V.0: Have you heard from all?
Me: No. I haven't heard from 3 schools.
V.O: How many schools have you been admitted to?
Me: 3 schools.
V.O: Can you name the schools you haven't heard from?
Me: I haven't heard from Iowa State, Virginia Tech and RPI.
V.O: Okay. Are you married?
Me: No.
V.O: Are you single?
Me: Yes I am.
V.O: Do you have any kids?
Me: No I dont.
V.O: Do you have any relative in the US?
Me: Yes, an aunt.
V.O: Where in the US is she?
Me: She's in Louisiana.
V.O: Congratulations, your visa will be ready in 3 days. You can pick it up at this location. You'll get a text from us when it is ready. Have a nice day.

Lol. To think I prepared all weekend to talk about my research and that wasn't even asked at all. Wasn't asked for GRE or Toefl scores or my funding. Felt rather anticlimatic as I was ready to answer questions about my research. lol. But regardless, I give thanks to God.

Grateful for this thread as it was very helpful in my preparation. Goodluck to everyone and see you in Trumpland or whoever owns the land in 2020.

Congratulations!

Hello Nairalanders,

In the DS160, under TRAVEL INFORMATION.
If my uncle is paying/sponsoring my trip through his company account, what will I write at these areas? His name or company name?

Good evening,I want to go for an MBA degree in business analytics( also cuz it’s under stem). I read what you explained to the other guy, I currently work in the admin sector in a construction company, do I need to take an online course or learn some things because of this mba specialization Pls I also don’t mind if you recommend schools that give funding. Waiting on your response or anyone’s thanks

1. Get a job or internships for at least 1 year in data science/analytics: Everyone tells you that data science is

So, brush up on your statistics and wear your business cap always! That is what makes you a good data scientist.

Finally, you will have to tell me if funding is a priority for you so that I can suggest some good programs. [/quote]

bracelum:

These pointers would be helpful;

1. Get a job or internships for at least 1 year in data science/analytics: Everyone tells you that data science is hot but no one tells you that The tools are not important, but the insights you generate are very important: This is why I said data science is not software engineering. No one gives a f*ck about the tools you have in your skillset. Whether it is Python, SAS, Scala, R or whatever! No one cares! What they all care about is the amount of insights you can get from your analysis. I have met Data Scientists from Apple that do not know how to code on Python. I have met Data Scientists from Intel that only use Excel (yeah, Excel). But one quality they all share is very solid statistical and business acumen. The Intel guy can build a market acquisition model from scratch using logit or probit models.

So, brush up on your statistics and wear your business cap always! That is what makes you a good data scientist.

Finally, you will have to tell me if funding is a priority for you so that I can suggest some good programs.

Hi wonderful people, following the recent development with drop-box, I have been unable to get a date for an interview on F-1 visa renewal.

I'm thinking of opening another profile as a fresh applicant. Is this going to have any effect on my application?

This appointment date is dealing with me

1. Don't think of doing an MBA if you don't have work experience. If you do so, you are shortchanging yourself and you won't reap the benefits of the MBA.

If you're not working at McKinsey, Bain, BCG, multinational FMCG or any of the top banks, get at least 4 years of solid experience before your MBA. If you work in any of the aforementioned firms, 2-3 years of experience is fine.

2. If you're doing analytics just because it is STEM, that is a wrong reason to do it. There are STEM-based MBA programs around that you can choose. Analytics is highly statistical and you need to love statistics to excel in it.

3. If your plan is to work in analytics, you need at least 1.5 years of analytics experience to stand the competition in the job market. However, an MBA in analytics might give you the advantage of working at business-like roles that have some little form of quantitative analysis. However, you need prior work experience (4-5 years) to take that route.

4. In summary, don't do an MBA without work experience because it is a waste of time and if you need to do analytics after graduation, then get at least 1.5 years of experience in analytics before moving to the US.

5. Notre Dame has a dual degree in MBA and biz analytics that has provided some funding to some people I know. You might want to get a stellar GRE or GMAT (preferred) score and good work experience because the program is competitive. But before applying, make sure you have enough work experience because it is not all about getting admissions and hopping on a plane to the US. You need to be very prepared so that you don't feel disappointed after graduation. I guess you read the story of the Stanford MBA guy.

6. This is the most important point . If you want to do an MBA, funding should be last on your priority list. Go to a solid program with good network. The cost will pay off in no time. An MBA at any top 10 US B school can transform your life.
