With no functional public transport network in the FCT ,this will be hard to resolve.
Moving around in the FCT is no mean feat, especially for JJC's ,but people should at least board from parks, tough not foolproof,to reduce the risk involved.

Sensationalist story. Abuja is the safest place in Nigeria. The only issue is the "one-chance" robbers in the FCT, and here we must place the blame where it squarely lies: the populace.

For years, the FCT administration and the DRTS (VIO office) has cracked down on unlicensed and unpainted vehicles known as "kabu kabu". But yet, people love to patronize them. On any typical day, you will see people just flagging down vehicles...any vehicle, even at night. It is like the culture here. Growing up in parts of Nigeria where such practice is frowned on because of safety concerns, this for me was one of the huge culture shocks I witnessed coming to the FCT.

Why would a sane person in today's Nigeria be flagging down a vehicle that is not a painted cab, with unknown occupants, just to be carried and dropped at a location in the name of saving money or for convenience? A woman had once walked to my car with her child and was asking if I was going in a particular direction early on a Saturday morning as I was heading to the mechanic. I asked her plainly whether she knew me before and I was like: what if I am a kidnapper? She just looked at me like a statue as I drove off.

So clearly, the govt here is doing its part by trying to sanitize the transport system. But the attitude of the people is clearly a problem. Use only painted cabs please.
I totally agree with you. They won't hear

the problem rests with the police & other security agencies.

they are heavily complicit in the kidnapping matter. some connive with the kidnappers & get their share of the ransom & some are complicit by negligence.

just last week, from Abuja to Ekiti, I counted over 50 security checkpoints... for a journey that is about 400km, that's equates to a security stop every 8km...

yet, kidnappers are having a field day. it's not coincidence that as soon as security officers leave a checkpoint, kidnappers & robbers strike.

& what happened to air surveillance?

is our SAT for just political bragging noise?

for me, before even 'destructuring' to state police, there is need for a massive reorientation of our security apparatus...

You have made ur point but, this is not the only problem right now.
Just last week my neighbor was trailed from her place of work (Bank) to the front of our gate at home, two guys on a bike pointed gun to her face and went away with her valuables.
That was not the first time it is happening in that area(Gwagwalada). In broad day light.
So its not just one chance my brother. Places outside the main Abuja town are now hotbeds for criminals. It wasn't this bad before.

Like someone rightfully said up there, what they know how to do is to arrest pole dancers, ban alcohol, yahoo boys and sports betting.

Nigeria is just like a speeding vehicle without brakes, and we are all inside this vehicle, very soon, I mean very, very soon, it will crash and not everyone will come out alive

Every 8km, security checkpoint along the Abuja Ekiti route? That is good nah. Have u traveled between Okene and Auchi before? U will be in a checkpoint and be looking at another checkpoint in front of u, all they do is just collect money from motorists, especially commercial vehicles, and God help u ur papers have any issue, then u are doomed. A journey that is just 45min drive, u will spend more than 3hrs with the numerous checkpoints both of the police, Military as well as vigilante group on that road yet, robbery still goes on on that road. They don't care about security, just there to make money. As for that SAT, yes, it's for political bragging. I still do not know its usefulness up till today.

if you believe anything that comes out of lie lie Muhammad@ your own risk. That man is a lier from the pit of hell.let him travel to kaduna by road from with out escorts.if he comes back them we will all believe him.abuja kaduna rail way now is a hot cake for politicians, They troop to the stations like flies due to fear of been kidnapped. Boys in those town who are once poor farmers are now multi millionaires. Thanks to there kidnapping biz. Jere, rijina most especially is where you will see father, sons uncles infact, all the males in the families who where once farmers have all drop there farming tools and resorted to kidnapping biz. Making millions on a weekly bases. Most of them who where in abuja doing hard labours have all relocated back home and join the biz. The issue of one chance in abuja, I was a victim of one chance in Abuja and I know how it fills.if not for God,I would have been six fit below the surface of this earth. It was a very horrible experience that I don't even wish my enemy to go through, if I toll I have one.this country is finished. Funny enough most of the securities on that Abuja kaduna high ways get Kick back from those kidnappers after ransom is paid. That is why the menace is on the increase. God save us in this country
please open a thread and let us know your experience, we might learn something from it.
