femijck:As usual, no booklet. I left Lagos, went to Abeokuta, paid ₦35,000 instead of ₦17,000 official money, yet still story. I'm just tired of everything. I believe so much in Nigeria, but with the way are going now, I just might give up. On Monday, I have to visit Abeokuta again to go beg the director and possibly bribe him so my passport can be printed. Nigeria is almost finished |

femijck: Ok noted. My questions are not directly related to this thread...Anyway, 1. Please in which state or province of NZ do blacks reside or Nigerians 2. Where do u advise as settlement base for any Nigerian 3. What is the average monthly rent for a 2bedroom apartment in dz area. Thanks |
Re: 8 Things You Need To Know About New Zealand by femijck(m): 10:50am On May 25, 2019 |
djavu82: Auckland is the most populated and probably most expensive city here. But u will definitely meet Africans/ Nigerians if that’s your concern. African community is not so large like Indian, Asian or Pacific Islanders community so you won’t necessarily see Africans daily. But u will definitely see them around. Also there are few African churches around here. There isn’t a lot of difference between 2 and 3 b/room apartment when it comes to pricing. But averagely I would say $350-$450 weekly for 2 bed while 3 bed could be $500 on average. This doesn’t include bills (power, internet, water etc). Other cities might come cheaper but I recommend you don’t go to the South Island as I don’t have much knowledge of the African community or jobs availability except you don’t mind working on a farm. |

My 2 cents: Make sure you take your time to gather as many evidence as possible to support your application and try do it yourself. Usually they try to verify the information in your documents. The verification could be in form of interview (phone), please make sure your responses are in tandem with docs submitted earlier. |

witgig:Great contribution. Would send this to our group. I'm sending my application on Monday 3rd June, straight away. I'm ready now. The attachments are too detailed. From marriage certificate to my academic and professional qualifications. Also attached my landed properties, car documents, stock and shares with Treasury bill etc just to prove I have no intention of staying one day beyond 14th September to come back to my office |

Thank u for this info... I sincerely appreciate. Am just kinda worried dt if u begin to pay $500 per week without bills whixh is roughly $2000 per month, dt means u must get a job dt is roughly $5000 or $6000 per month ex Tax. femijck: |
Re: 8 Things You Need To Know About New Zealand by femijck(m): 11:36pm On May 28, 2019 |
djavu82: To earn 5000 NZD after tax means you have to earn at least $37/hr for a 40hrs/week job or $30/hr for a 50hr/week job (rough estimate). Most low and mid skill job worker don’t earn close to this. I don’t think u can earn that much doing 40hrs a week mate, at the beginning of this thread, I mentioned NZ is not a Cheap country to live in. especially Auckland There are couples who do not earn more than 4500-5000 a month. That been said, there are individual that still earn over 4500 monthly doing just low skill or mid skill job. Although Professionals, tradie and business owners could earn more. I believe your partner will be working ft/pt time too. If not, I will advise u think twice because I don’t think you qualify for any social benefit as non- resident immigrants and living on one income might be stressful before u find ur feet here. Except u have ur own plan. Single or couple without kids do share flat which makes a huge difference...flat sharing could cost between 150-250 depending on the area, number of people in the house and nature of the flat u sharing. I stand to be corrected on this .... but it’s my personal opinion. |

Re: 8 Things You Need To Know About New Zealand by djavu82(m): 6:42am On May 30, 2019 |
femijck: Thanks for the detailed explanation. I have a job in Nigeria now and it's not dt bad though but am qualified for the NZ skilled migrant program under d long term skilled shortage program. Therefore, I will be given a PR (as per what I read) but I also read u won't be qualified for some benefits until after 24months. Such benefits whixh u r not qualified for includes support if u do not work. So Am doing some computations to see if it's worth exploring. I have checked my score and likely to score 165 meaning, I can be selected from d EOI pool. I have assessed my university transcript by NZQA body whixh is valid for 5years... But sincerely, the only thing I still find interesting yet is the citizenship after 5years and International job experience...Now, I want to be sure if working alone, I can save money, pay my bills and not have a stressful life reason I am asking for some of dz info. Anyway, is there anything like a room and parlour (Like we call it here)....pending when i finds my feet to get a bigger apartment...what's d idea of the cost... Thanks for d info so far |
Re: 8 Things You Need To Know About New Zealand by femijck(m): 11:12pm On May 30, 2019 |
djavu82: If you qualify for the skill migrant category, then it’s an opportunity you should take. Things will come a little bit easier. Also becoming NZ citizen will be a Golden opportunity for u and those involved. It’s a gate to the globe for y’all. Also as a NZ citizen, u can live indefinitely in Australia if u choose to. * No room and parlour but you can share a flat with people or rent an a 1/2 bedroom unit from a building. Renting a unit will give u the privacy than sharing a flat. But might be slightly higher in price. |

@Femijck and other knowledgeable person. I have been observing recently news from New Zealand about job availability with scarce human resources. I'd like to know what jobs can one apply from Nigeria that can help get an employer to sponsor one? Thank you in anticipation. |

femijck: Congratulations on becoming a Kiwi and well-done for keeping the thread alive. Many people may not understand how much sacrifice you make in order to respond to the queries here especially when we consider the time difference. Many times I have set out to respond to questions, typed half way and then break is over at work(you can only use phone during break or after work) or one thing comes up and that will be the end. To everyone who is considering making a move here, I will say go for it if you have the resources and opportunities to come here legally. Working condition is good, quality of life is nice and the people are very polite and respectful. Your rights are protected and generally it's safe here. However, if you're not going to be in Auckland prepare for a laid back life which was a challenge to someone like me at first. 1 Like |

davodyguy: He could be making the inquiries for a family or friend back home or he might have studied in Australia and have gone back home at the end of his studies/post study visa if he has no option of converting to a residence or work visa. Whatever his circumstances are, let's not make him feel uncomfortable here, it's his personal life and he is entitled to be here just like anyone else. 1 Like |

solin: My answer will be biased based on my experience here. I will say it's mostly trades such as welding. I have seen lots of my colleagues been hired from overseas, and many others who are already here move jobs easily. I think welding job is promising here and it's mostly in Skill shortage lists of most countries. However, in Nigeria, most trades are highly underated. we look at them as a poor man's job and as such we don't have a proper system for apprenticeship or internationally recognised vocational education framework/certification. In addition to these, I have seen Nurses, Teachers, and just few weeks ago my colleague's brother came on a work visa to work for a forestry company. You can also check the accredited employer list and see what's in there for you. Here is the link https://www.immigration.govt.nz/new-zealand-visas/apply-for-a-visa/tools-and-information/tools/accredited-employers-list |

ugsams:No, I think you're perceiving it wrongly. Solin and I ha r been pals here since my 2017 AU trip that we shared information. I think I visited AU before he did and thought he was processing AU 2 years ago. This is the sole reason I asked. It's very harmless |

ugsams: You’re very correct bro.... especially the first paragraph. It’s not easy.... most of my typing are done in my precious time. And that’s why I hardly reply PM except when it’s very confidential and I have been informed earlier. But some of the beautiful comments makes it all worth it. |

ezinwaJesu: It's achievable, it all depends on your lifestyle, how long and hard you're willing to work and your pay rate. |
