Paul was trying to explain a conundrum that Exodus had presented and which had always been in contention. The Jews at the time after all critiqued Scripture just as much as we do here, and the Christians in Paul's day must have done so to for Paul to bother attempt to explain it.

Personally, I do not accept that a God would harden Pharoah's heart since it was the hardness of Pharoah's heart that made him enslave others in the first place. Except ancient writers did tend to think some god or another was responsible for whatever they did or whatever happened. The 'age of justification after the fact', some call it. I want to steal other people's land so I justify it by claiming some god told me to. Amusing at best when one steals and dedicates a tenth to God in gratitude. It would help if that god also informed those one steals from so they could just hand it over, I reckon.
see bro. God harden pharroah heart and why ? to let the Israelites go "let my people go" but pharroah heart GROW harden
Exodus 8:32
32 But Pharaoh hardened his heart
this time also, and did not let the
people go.

The first child born to a family is the first born whether it's still a baby or an adult. It says all the first borns died even of animals. Your question is pointless.

Exodus 11
5 And all the firstborn in the land of Egypt shall die, from the first born of Pharaoh that sitteth upon his throne, even unto the firstborn of the maidservant that is behind the mill; and all the firstborn of beasts.

The heart hardening began a chapter earlier than you're quoting, but you still wouldn't be the first to settle for that explanation. For some, its illogical for God to harden Pharoah's heart at all just to prove who's more powerful. The same illogicallity occurs in the Garden of Eden and the consequential death that was supposed to accompany the eating of the forbidden Fruit of the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil. Many explain it by redefining death, but that just screams wuruwuru to the answer to the more delving mind.

So u mean all firstborns are adults automatically from the day they were born?
Hahahaha. It is very hard to defend the Bible these days. You have to be able to make ridiculous claims like this guy is doing.

Let me just touch briefly on it. Though the logical approach should be to deal one by one, but i already know that whether one by one or fourteen at once, there is no hope for dogs to read alphabets. But what i'm seeing here is a street of dogs laughing that humans cannot read the alphabet. That's why i decided to stroll down the street whistling abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz now i know my abc, all the dogs should go and sleep. cheesy cheesy cheesy

frosbel2:
Here's a list of bible verses that make one wonder just what sort of God Christians give their lives to in sincere patronage to what they call 'Holy'. If any readers have better examples (and I'm certain there must be) please be sure to add to the list. I know Christians will excuse the worst by saying 'Oh those are Old Testament" so I'll endeavour to try to quote liberally from the New.

1. God himself will kill tens of thousands if it pleases him: 1st Samuel 6:19 in the King James Version: “And he smote the men of Beth-shemesh, because they had looked into the ark of the LORD, even he smote of the people fifty thousand and threescore and ten men (50,070)”. Kill 50 000 men for looking at something?

God can kill billions if He chooses to. Remember in context that He owns the world and its inhabitants. When you own something, you decide what you want to do with it. If someone else does, that's where there is problem. i can decide to burn all my T-shirts, na me get them. And i can decide to give them out or iron them etc.

2. You can kill a woman if she seizes a man's private parts without his permission: Deuteronomy 25:11-1: If two men are fighting and the wife of one of them comes to rescue her husband from his assailant, and she reaches out and seizes him by his private parts, you shall cut off her hand. Show her no pity.

Here is a lie told by a liar. The Bible did not say to kill the woman. It said to cut the hand. She grabbed, seized, FASTENED UPON the thing, OUCH. Who does that? i can imagine someone squeezing necks, not to mention the thing. That's murderous if not murderful.

3. Perversity and human trafficking condoned: "Slaves, be subject to your masters with all reverence, not only to those who are good and equitable but also to those who are perverse." (1 Peter 2:18)

Surbodinates should take orders from their superiors with respect, that should be commonsense, else there will be anarchy.

4. Sex slavery condoned: "When a man sells his daughter as a slave, she will not be freed at the end of six years as the men are. If she does not please the man who bought her, he may allow her to be bought back again."
Exodus 21: 7-8

Again, the writer here deceitfully cuts out a part of the quoted text to suit his agenda. This is the opposite of sex slavery. Here is the beauty of how surbodinates were fairly treated under their jewish masters. IF the master liked a female servant to the point to being betrothed i.e MARRIED/promised marriage. IF a master marries a servant, is that bad for the servant or good? So where is the sex slavery here? If the master decides to divorce the lady, she cannot be a slave again or sold as a servant but redeemed/freed. Here's the rest of the passage in Goodnews.
Exo 21:8  If she is sold to someone who intends to make her his wife, but he doesn't like her, then she is to be sold back to her father; her master cannot sell her to foreigners, because he has treated her unfairly.
Exo 21:9  If a man buys a female slave to give to his son, he is to treat her like a daughter.
Exo 21:10  If a man takes a second wife, he must continue to give his first wife the same amount of food and clothing and the same rights that she had before.
Exo 21:11  If he does not fulfill these duties to her, he must set her free and not receive any payment.

5. Divorce akin to debauchery: "Whosoever putteth away his wife, and marrieth another, committeth adultery: and whosoever marrieth her that is put away from her husband committeth adultery." (Luke 16:18)

Divorce is immoral, deal with it. Who decided that it is not immoral, you? The Bible says that God authored marriage, so in that case He has proprietary to call it what He likes.

6. Cannibalism: "And the king said unto her, What aileth thee? And she answered, This woman said unto me, Give thy son, that we may eat him to day, and we will eat my son to morrow. So we boiled my son, and did eat him: and I said unto her on the next day, Give thy son, that we may eat him: and she hath hid her son...." (II Kings 6:28-29)

And God said you should do likewise or what exactly?

7. If your genitals have been damaged, stay out of church: "He that is wounded in the stones, or hath his privy member cut off, shall not enter into the congregation of the Lord."(Deuteronomy 23:1)

Mentioning church here is another lie because in that case, any Bible reader knows that this is not the case in the Bible. The New Testament church is 'all inclusive'. God Himself told Philip to go meet the Eunuch in the wilderness.

8. Incest and getting drunk with dad is no problem if the world is running thin on suitable DNA donors: And the elder said to the younger Our father is old, and there is no man left on the earth, to come in unto us after the manner of the whole earth. Come, let us make him drunk with wine, and let us lie with him, that we may preserve seed of our father. And they made their father drink wine that night: and the elder went in and lay with her father: but he perceived not neither when his daughter lay down, nor when she rose up. And the next day the elder said to the younger: Behold I lay last night with my father, let us make him drink wine also to night, and thou shalt lie with him, that we may save seed of our father. They made their father drink wine that night also, and the younger daughter went in, and lay with him: and neither then did he perceive when she lay down, nor when she rose up. So the two daughters of Lot were with child by their father. [Genesis 19:31-36]

Again, God told you to do likewise, right?

9. Looking at a woman with desire is akin to adultery: "But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart." (Matthew 5:28)

For people who do not believe in adultery, you should not be the one to define adultery. Make sense please, oh you cannot.

10. But incestuous rape is cool: And when she had presented him the meat, he took hold of her, and said: Come lie with me, my sister. She answered him: Do not so, my brother, do not force me: for no such thing must be done in Israel. Do not thou this folly. [II Kings 13:8-12] But he would not hearken to her prayers, but being stronger overpowered her and lay with her. [II Kings 13:14]

Same as some of the above. God did not tell you to do likewise.

11. Pray in private, and if you do so in church, do so quietly: Matt 6:5 "And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by others."

You don't pray, you don't think God answers prayers. But you have a problem with how to pray? Can you be wise a bit?

12. If you offend God he will kill you: "And Er, Judah's firstborn, was wicked in the sight of the LORD; and the LORD slew him. And Judah said unto Onan, Go in unto thy brother's wife, and marry her, and raise up seed to thy brother. And Onan knew that the seed should not be his; and it came to pass, when he went in unto his brother's wife, that he spilled it on the ground, lest that he should give seed to his brother. And the thing which he did displeased the LORD: wherefore he slew him also." (Genesis 38:7-10)

Sure, He owns you as the Bible said. So He can do what He wants with you. Same way i can kill my chicken that is disturbing me anytime and anyhow i like. i can put salt if i want, the pepper i feel like, i can boil it with bottled water, or roast it, or fry it with coconut oil. IT IS MINE. i can even give you. It would be criminal and will make you sleep in police net if you tried any of this. i really do not expect dogs to learn the alphabets, do i?

13. God smites women, children and often animals with equal gusto, he seems to equal evil and wrong doing by association, rather than by being guilty of the personal, individual act: "Behold with a great plague will the LORD smite thy people and thy children, and thy wives, and all thy goods: And thou shalt have great sickness by disease of thy bowels, until thy bowels fall out by reason of the sickness day by day." (II Chronicles 21:14-15)

In another case, you would whine that women are lower than men in the Bible. Now it is time to whine that they are treated equal or what exactly are you barking? There are consequences for people's actions, face the reality. Do you think that our President's actions and inactions will only affect men, or only the president? Some will even argue that it will not affect him at all. Who suffers the most? Is not the poor women and children? Is that not the reality? When leadership does bad, the consequences do not only happen to them. This is the reality of life. If you think otherwise, you must be more ignorant than i thought. If you are not okay with it, you can go and build your own planet then.

14. Rev 21: 8 "liars--their place will be in the fiery lake of burning sulfur. This is the second death." Eternal damnation for lying? In South Africa murderers and rapists often get released for good behaviur, lying is politics.

And speaking of lying, the bible ends with one. It calls its message 'the good news' and concludes, "I am coming soon." Wrong on the 'soon' bit, and unless we've missed something, no one has come. But I get it, if 2000 years pass, soon after such a length of time must be VERY soon. If 10 000 years pass, soon must be very VERY soon.
A criminal wants to determine his own fate, lol. Is that how you people do it in southern afrique?

The summary remains this. Love Him or hate Him, God is real and cannot be ignored. The Bible remains the most powerful book on earth, you are free to write a better book as intelligent dogs should be able to. It is one thing to hate God and think He did not do right. But it remains absurd to say God di not do right, therefore He does not/cannot exist. It is that absurdity that befalls the majority of dogs in the street unfortunately.

asking about the killing of the firstborn is a stupid question? what kind of human are you? So your God and Pharaoh are not different? That says a lot about him. I thought he's not moved like humans? So he's competing with Pharaoh on who can kill the innocent more?

Just say you don't know instead of saying nonsense.

the king was not an innocent man, he was a brutal dictator, he enslaved the Israelites for many years , he even oder the firstborn of the Israelites killed. they bring the wrath of God on themselves with 400 years of slavery.

1. THE JEWS ARE SAYING THEY WERE NOT SLAVES IN EGYPT, AND THAT THE MASS EXODUS NEVER HAPPENED.

2. THERE ARE NO RECORDS FOR SUCH A TIME, OUTSIDE THE BIBLE. MEANWHILE THERE ARE RECORDS OF MUCH OLDER EVENTS.

3. THE DISTANCE TRAVELED BY MOSES AND THE SLAVES FROM EGYPT FOR 40 YEARS CAN EASILY BE COVERED IN LESS THAN 5 MONTHS BY THE SLOWEST CRAWLING TORTOISE.

YOUR BIBLE IS MADE UP AND YOU BELIEVE IN MYTH.

THIS IS LIKE SAYING A GUNMAN IS MERCIFUL FOR KILLING ALL THE KIDS IN SCHOOL EXCEPT ONE.

It's the indoctrination, it's not easy to confront the fact that stuff you believed since childhood are all fake.

Your objections. The bible is filled with these types of stories and you say no its man, yet you admit this is the actions of the god. It doesn't add up.

NPComplete:
Frosbel2 remove 6, 8, 10, 11 and 14 from that list.

I feel like those are bad faith verses that withers the overall argument of the OP.

Incest was not condoned. The Bible even goes further to record that the children of that incestuous relationship of Lot were to be wiped out by the children of Israel.
The other case of incest by a son of David was also noted as an evil act in the Bible.

Please let's not be like the Christians who lie through their teeth here.

The case of cannibalism was also recorded as an abominable act and it moved the king to action against Elijah.

11 and 14 are totally irrelevant. I don't even know why they are in the list. U could say the same thing for all the commandments of the Bible god and punishment to be meted out for flouting them.

6. Lev 26:29 You shall eat the flesh of your sons and the flesh of your daughters.

Ezekiel 5:9 On account of all your abominations, I will do among you what I have never done, and the like of which I will never do again. 5:10 Assuredly, parents shall eat their children in your midst, and children shall eat their parents. I will execute judgments against you, and I will scatter all your survivors in every direction.

8. Yes, sort of agree, but this happened in a righteous family ? Disgusting. There were other righteous men they could have married other than screwing their father. And what was a righteous man doing getting drunk ?? If this was Muhammad , Christians would have brought this up as a sign of Islam’s unrighteousness.

One other thing , you either have to believe in the creation story and agree that humanity was propagated by incest or consider that there was something else going on which we do not know.

10.
"Hear and give ear; do not be haughty, for the Lord has spoken. . . . And if you say in your heart, 'Why have these things come upon me?' it is for the greatness of your iniquity that your skirts are lifted up, and you are violated . . . because you have forgotten me and trusted in lies. I myself will lift up your skirts over your face, and your shame will be seen." (Jeremiah 13:15–26 NRSV)

11 is actually one of the most valid verses quoted. Christians disobey this command everyday .

14 is the most valid of all. It is the sum of the Christian gods vindictiveness, evil, jealousy , hatred and eagerness to torment his creatures for world without end .

Just in case you don't know, the Bible contains the words of God, the words of Man and the words of the devil. It's left for you to know which to adhere to. Not everything in the bible is from God!!
