But he didn't get his Phd from a Nigerian University, but from an American one. That is the point. venmotors: |

TheLogicalMind:Yep. Exactly. 99% of Nigeria-obtained PhDs are useless to Nigeria's science and tech progression. It's ether they are plagiarizing or essentially repeating research already published elsewhere, claiming to add Nigerian context or perspective. No novelty, no innovation. Still, those who studied abroad and returned home are unable to make meaningful impact due to a myriad of "Nigerian factors". |

jesmond3945: So why are you expecting your universites to produce Harvard level graduates with such low funding.?? Our education budget is less than 1 trillion naira. That is 2bn US dollars....split among all the primary , secondary and university in Nigeria. That is where your money for subsidy for fees comes from. |

otipoju: 1.Sweden's GDP is many times larger than Nigeria's because Sweden does not rely on oil...they rely on industries. 2. In Nigeria, when it is time to talk about the economy, all I hear from Southerners and Northerners is how to divide the national cake. Neither side is interested in improving manufacturing. 3.In a country where a large percentage of people steal power and then expect the DISCOS to supply power 24//7....(and corruption in the DISOCS worsens the matter)... |
Re: Harvard Drop-out Vs Uniben Drop-out. Can't Stop Laughing by FSU: 8:55pm On May 27, 2019 |
tactius: Sweden's GDP is not even up to twice larger than Nigeria. Or did you mean GDP per capita? Regardless, Nigeria"s problem is misplaced priorities and culture of corruption and incompetence.

To gain admission into Harvard University shows that you are good enough, so comparing Harvard and Uniben drop out is really baseless. My opinion though. I prefer to be referred to as an Harvard drop out than a Uniben drop out. Then I saw a cbt app that has some free practice questions relating to the NNPC recruitment so you all might find it useful (https://www.cbt.ng/mocks/59/nnpc-recruitment/subject-areas). |

FSU: Sweden has less than 11 million people. Nigeria has 170million people, if not more. So of course...per capita GDP would be less for Nigeria. |

tactius:what do you mean harvard level? I schooled internationally and I can tell you there is not being done overseas that is not being done in Nigeria even better. An average nigerian undergrad handle more courses than their counterpart overseas.Do you know how much tetfund and the federal govt has invested?. Why do you like converting naira to dollars to reinforce your assumption? Let me tell you this what 1 trillion can do for Nigeria education 10 billion dollars cannot do it in America, you know why? everything in america is overpriced. Why are Nigerians excelling and carting awards, if accoding to you harvard level students are better? Chika ike schooled in harvard, what has that done to her life? My man believe in your own. |

It's not only a Nigerian issue. If I may ask, how many professors in the US are as rich as bill gates. In Nigeria, we have people that cannot write their names that are richer than some PhD holders in the US. We have chanchangi of blessed memory, which school did the owner of bua, innoson motors, folorunsho alakija etc attend. They are richer than some professors in the US. |
Re: Harvard Drop-out Vs Uniben Drop-out. Can't Stop Laughing by FSU: 9:28pm On May 27, 2019 |
alfarouq: Some? All, I would say. Likely no US professor earns more than $250K (and that is the very upper range for profs in Harvard and other top schools), per annum. However, coaches and university presidents earn as much as $400K and above Most US professors earn between $50 and $150 K per annum, depending on what you teach, what school, whether full or associate or assistant prof, and how much research grants/funds you bring in. Non science profs typically earn lower than science profs. I am sure Innoson makes much more than that per annum as his salary/profit from his business, let alone Alakija. |

Agbaletu:Dude stop consoling yourself. Nigerian universities churn out PhD like its purewater and many of them don't know anything always having the ego that they've made it in life. The educational system of Nigeria is bad. Very very bad. Like someone said, we only do research on less important and meaningless things. Shits like carrying out a research whether mango leaf is a good antioxidant when its a known fact that most plants are antioxidants and mango leaf might not be an exception. We have a long way to go. 1 Like |

Agbaletu: Well I still believe that can only get better Prof, and I'd love to read more on your academic researches and journals to drink from your fountain of academic ingenuity. Well the issues with Nigerian Students studying abroad stems from the fact that most are competing strongly with peeps who are better equipped from the cradle, hence why some take time to settle into the culture as obtained abroad. But many Nigerian Students are doing incredibly well abroad, excelling in their chosen fields of study, the cost is a bit on the high side, but at the end of the day it is worth every bit of it. Again, it depends on the field, for those in the Humanities for example might find it a bit hard surviving because the courses herein are not competitive in the open job market. For those of us with better IT knowledge are killing it big because many tech startups are lining up to snatch dudes with a strong leaning to coding and cognitive abilities on futuristic and contemporary tech. Thanks again, I feel honored having this conversation, this site has been super filled with illiterates and semi illiterates, this is my first time meeting someone of repute and I'm so happy about that. High five prof! |

LiveByNight: Bro, i dont need truvada.and i can not make fun of those who do. The fact that you are inclined to make fun of those who do shows how despicable a human being you are. My wife is a nurse and i get a daily feed of medical related video and articles to have things to converse about at home. I have always complained that America is needlessly expensive to live in compared to other developing nations. That video was a perfect illustration to her to back my point. My point remains, Education does not need to be expensive to be of top notch quality. |

otipoju: You are a dummy and stupid and totally missed the point !! I wasn't making fun of them you dolt.. truvada is used for hi prevention!! Do you understand what the word prevention means ?? If trully your wife is a nurse then you shouldn't be this stupid It means you can take truvada and have unprotected sex which is what is used for mostly by the youth hence my joke but you were in a haste to state your imaginary moral ground and missed it you dunce Get away from here with your made rubbish |

LiveByNight: Na your sabi. Carry as e dey do you go front. No be me you go carry your frustration pour.Typical nigerian, you cant state your point without insulting. It does not matter what truvada is used for. Prevention or cure it is irrelevant and i am not really interested. You can replace that example with another one, its still the same outcome. A drug being sold by the same company for $8 in Australia is being sold for $ 2000 in the USA. The point is that things in the USA are needlessly expensive compared to other first world countries. And that the high price of education does not automatically mean its better. An average Nigerian student who schooled in any Nigerian University will come to the USA and be a star. Ask around. Even business in USA will take orders from here , produce in China and ship to your home. If you still dont get that, then i am sorry for your people. |

I don't understand what you guys mean by Harvard drop out as if they failed and were asked to leave. These guys of their own volition left school to pursue their dreams, just like Osewa left OAU to pursue his dreams that culminated in Nairaland and whatever other projects. So there is no basis for comparison. If you want to be an academician that is your goal otherwise chase your dreams and be the best you can. |
