Why Does Onitsha Have No Universities Or Polytechnics? by Rossikk(m): 1:39am On May 29, 2019 |
This Biafra movement seems to have Onitsha as its hotbed and fulcrum, with most Ipob members either hailing from there, or drawing massive inspiration from the city. The city has a population of 7.5 million. It also has NO university, NO polytechnic, NO higher institutes of learning whatsoever. Onitsha has to be the biggest city on earth without a single higher institute of learning. Could there be a link between this stunning level of ignorance and the chaotic, ethnic-based agitation for a breakaway republic against all common sense and reason? Who will bring HIGHER EDUCATION to Onitsha, and finally stop its people from being pawns of Kanu and other manipulative elements? 6 Likes 1 Share |

Onitsha is not far from the areas that has universities,it is not a must for a university to be located in a crowded city e.g Awka, Uli, Igbariam is not far. Onitsha has Petroleum training institute. 16 Likes |

Rossikk: The only ignorance I see are adults who believe in a failed country, with highest poverty rate in the world, and with future forecast even looking worst, feeling they are in position to advise those who want out of the sinking ship. That's the biggest ignorance. I doubt if people from where OP hail from are more educated and informed than Onitsha residents. 22 Likes |

pazienza: Yawwwnnnn..... The real facts: ''Nigeria is the world's 20th largest economy as of 2015, worth more than $500 billion and $1 trillion in terms of nominal GDP and purchasing power parity respectively. It overtook South Africa to become Africa's largest economy in 2014. The 2013 debt-to-GDP ratio was 11 percent. Nigeria is considered to be an emerging market by the World Bank; it has been identified as a regional power on the African continent, a middle power in international affairs, and has also been identified as an emerging global power..... Nigeria is a member of the MINT group of countries, which are widely seen as the globe's next "BRIC-like" economies. It is also listed among the "Next Eleven" economies set to become among the biggest in the world.'' https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nigeria See, the EDUCATED world does not see Nigeria as a ''failed country'' because of its current economic difficulties. That is why EDUCATION is so important. You learn to see the Big Picture. I doubt if people from where OP hail from are more educated and informed than Onitsha residents. Who educated Onitsha residents? Invisible universities? 6 Likes 1 Share |

@Rossikk Onitsha is a small town in Anambra state. Going by your assertion, Nnewi, Lekki, Festac and Idumota should have there own universities and polytechnics too. Moreover, The agitation for Biafra wasn't borne out of ignorance as you asserted, The person that started the struggle have an intimidating profile that you can only imagine in your life time, at the age of 30, he was a lieutenant colonel of Nigerian Army and at the age of 33 he was governor of eastern region, in 1967 when he was 34, He started the biggest movement in Africa and you sitting behind a keyboard thinks this man was ignorant? I am against secession but let's get the records right. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/C._Odumegwu_Ojukwu 21 Likes 1 Share |

pazienza: You have no shame. Secondary school kids are what you are presenting as Onitsha's educational accomplishments? Can you people see what I'm talking about? You lack education but are too arrogant to admit it. So you send us to a news link that proves - from the disjointed, flawed English of the correspondent, to the substandard appearance of the site itself - that you indeed have major problems with education. 3 Likes 1 Share |

pazienza: What ''internationally recognised'' GARBAGE are you on about? What has having NO higher institutes of learning got to do with ''internationally recognised'' secondary school kids? You really confirm the objective of this thread. Pursuing your line of reasoning merely confirms the major deficit in higher education, and reasoning capacity in your city. 2 Likes 1 Share |

pazienza: By your logic, the best way to arrest this poverty is to have no universities or polytechnics? Or what are you saying? A lot of those statistics are due to the problems in the north, anyway, so this point of yours is diversionary. Face the issue and stop dodging. 2 Likes 1 Share |

See? You can't even write proper English. Is there ANYONE in Onitsha who can write English without mistakes? What is ''intimidating'' about a guy who seized power by the barrel of a gun? What intellectual input was involved in the process? 4 Likes 1 Share |

Rossikk: How exactly has multiplicity of mushroom Universities helped Nigeria? Anambra is the smallest state in Nigeria after Lagos. The distance between Onitsha and Igbariam where Anambra State University is located is at best 45mins. To Awka is one hour. To Ogwashi ukwu where Delta Poly is located is probably 30-45mins, Asaba also hosts a campus of DELSU. We have school Of Nursing at Nkpor And Ogidi, School of Health sciences in Obosi, Buckingham polytechnic Ogidi, Tansian University Umunya. Ogidi, Nkpor and Obosi are parts of greater Onitsha metropolis. Your thread is basically pointless and inflammatory. And I'm sure your were not expecting welcome responses. 14 Likes |

pazienza: Erm...''Mushroom'' university is 10000 times better than NO university. And asking what's the point of universities is in itself a sign of semi-literacy and ignorance. Anambra is the smallest state in Nigeria after Lagos. EXCUSES. A city of 7.5 million people SHOULD HAVE MANY HIGHER INSTITUTES OF LEARNING INSIDE THE CITY. Not a couple that are ''one hour away from'', or ''45 minutes away from'' the city. You have shopping malls and hotels for fcking ashawos inside the city, don't you? Did you place them ''an hour away'' from the city? No? So WHY higher institutions? 4 Likes 1 Share |
