2. The Oshodi-Ebule-Egba BRT route project will span 14 kilometres – from Oshodi to Abule-Egba,
3. The BRT route will stretch across four (4) local government areas. They include, Alimosho, Oshodi-Isolo, Ikeja and Agege.
4. When completed, t[b]hat BRT corridor will be used by about 240 high capacity BRT buses that will seat 42 people with others standing[/b].
5. These buses will move about 450,000 passengers daily. With future increase in the number of buses, this figure is expected to increase.
6. The BRT corridor on that route will have a[b] special median lane[/b]. The two lanes would use a common platform to load.
7. There would be 14 pedestrian bridges in all proposed 14 bus stations.
8. The footbridges would both take the passengers into the bus shelters and across the highway using special buses with doors to the left to make it possible for the buses to share common platforms at the bus stops.
9. The engineering designs would take care of the beams of bridges. For instance, the roads will be expanded around pillars of existing bridges, around bus shelters with passing lanes to accommodate traffic and that future expansion of the expressway was possible.
10. Despite the construction of the BRT routes, the width of the roads will remain standard. A standard road is 3.1 or 3.2 metres wide. The road will only appear insufficient due to the careless way we drive in Nigeria. That notwithstanding, it is still part of the plan to widen the roads in areas where there is need to.
11. Walkways would be constructed to ensure the safety of pedestrians

The Economist has predicted “more misery ahead” for Nigerians in President Muhammadu Buhari’s second term.

In a report on Thursday, the magazine said more Nigerians slipped into poverty during Buhari’s first term while the country’s economy “stuck like a stranded truck.”

The Economist said while the nation’s economy has performed poorly, there is “little sign of the kind of export-led industrial revolution that has lifted incomes in Asia.”


“This is not only because the naira is overvalued. It is also because the state has spent decades neglecting basic public goods, like roads, schools and electricity,” the report read.

“Where urgency is needed, Mr Buhari offers only caution. Few are holding their breath for any more drive in his second term, which began on May 29th.”



The report added that public finances would be healthier “if the government raised the price of fuel”.

It also frowned at some of the federal government’s social investment programmes (SIP) which, saying they have not been yielding the needed result.

“Although the government has expanded school-feeding programmes and is working on a safety-net for the poor, most citizens get few benefits from the state,” the report read.

“Oxfam, a charity, ranks 157 countries on their commitment to reducing inequality, based on social spending, taxes and labour laws: Nigeria comes last.

“For Nigeria to prosper, the state could harness the vim of its 200m citizens. Instead it ignores them, except when politicians need votes.”

Aisha Buhari, wife of the president, had also criticised the SIP last week, saying the scheme failed in the north.
