Benchmarking shouldn't tell a lot. Why did our experts then decide to adopt the Columbian BRT model and not Nigeria's or Tanzania's for that matter ? When India tried to learn about our mpesa technology, does that mean that we beat them in ICT ?
cossano:
rant however you what, it will never change the facts that the Nigerians have provided here. let me tell you something, in life there are two kinds of envy, black and white envy. black envy is when someone progress makes you uncomfortable thereby prompting you to plot his downfall, white envy is when someone success makes you uncomfortable but instead of plotting his downfall you find a way of achieving the same, i smell a lot of black envy from you towards the Nigerians, if they are such a failure why did we go to benchmark with their BRT? because what you keep saying is nothing good can ever come from Nigeria. am sorry for you man, the soon you accept the facts the better for you. what do we say in Kenya; ACCEPT AND MOVE ON

He replaced a fool called nowenigans. He's best dismissed at first sight.

thank you my brother, i already enjoy the discussion here, i already feel like you are here in my living room. Tbh with you, i get pissed off when someone is trying so hard, despite the reality, he is still pushing that Nairobi is greater than Lagos, i mean what metrics do they use to justify these fallacious claims, public transport in Nairobi is hell, do they tell you how many man hours Kenyans are loosing everyday in Nairobi trying to get to work, our own Govt data says that nairobi is 60% slums, don't just think its the tin shack houses only, there are numerous concrete ghettos in nairobi with 10 by 10 rooms where sometimes more than 10 tenants share one bathroom and one toilet almost 80% of nairobi Eastland fall under this category, most nairobi estates don't even have playgronds, public primary/secondary schools, social halls, public health facilities etc, and the ones that are there were built in the 80's and you know why? the plots allocated for these projects have been grabbed, our architect body says that for nairobi to regain its former glory massive demolitions will have to be undertaken.
You see. You're a honest Kenyan, and your brothers here keep denying Everything instead of them to just accept the truth and let the argument go. We all know nairobi is a complete shitthol. Kenya is a fvcked up country. Very soon your useless brothers we call you Tanzanian.

Don't project your insecurities on me, never been bitter concerning whatever positive things been mentioned about your country on this thread. I have made good remarks about your city nairobi.
The mere fact that you are so use to mediocrity does not mean everyone one of us should be used to it.Your nyayo estate would only pass as a normal housing estate for lower income earners or better still a military barracks filled with recruits and not for the regular officers.

I told you to be used to arguing with facts, don't just open your mouth, you were denying nyayo isn't a posh, I've proved it to you and you're still crying here.
Mark you, Nyayo estate which is giving you sleepless nights isn't even among the top 20 luxurious estates in Kenya, it's just the largest and the cleanest estate in east Africa.
Kenya has a variety of beautiful and luxurious posh estates with some like Karen being featured among the top ten luxury home in the world, that's why you'll see rich folks from US, UK,south Africa and Nigeria establishing their footprints to buy homes in Karen.

Meanwhile this is Runda estate.

i have already voiced my opinion to the BBI when they held there sittings here in kisii town, my take is that we go the Ethiopian way, Ethnic federalism, let every one develop at there own pace, use there resources however they wish, elect leaders they believe we deliver for them, not ethnic kings whose only objective is to run the country a ground through wanton looting of the country's meager resources. time has come for a honest restructuring of kenya, we cannot keep lying to ourselves, let those of you who want to continue electing mediocre leaders like Waititu and Sonko have your own states to do with as you wish, those of us who want to elect technocrats like Ongwae nyong'o and oparanya should also have our own states.

You'll truly regret real federalism-sociopolitically we're not there yet. You're looking for a quick fix to our poverty which isn't wholly founded in politics but in the economic template that runs the entire world.
I touched on this earlier, let me summarize: early 70s a barrel of oil was 2-2.50 USD. The Arabs instituted a sale boycott after the 1973 loss to Israel pushing up prices 3x-OVERNIGHT!!
At the same time price of our tea, timber, coffee, cocoa etc remained stagnant. Yes,corruption, incompetence and negative ethnicity haven't helped us but the oil shock is still being felt generations later.
You should know skewed economic systems shortchange us regularly. Under invoicing and transfer pricing are actually the least harmful. Some trade agreements are set in stone backed up by force. Heard of the Pact Coloniale- the French agreement with their (ex) colonies? Til recently they kept 85% of their currency in Paris! I could go on and on but hope you see the picture.

That is not Runda - it's greenpark estate in Athi River. The next picture maybe Runda. The 3rd is Kitengela estate. Obviously Lagos and Abuja slumpolis got nothing on Nairobi estates.

You would think Nigeria would have transformed like how those Arabs turned their deserts into modern cities - but they wasted all the trillion dollars. That is part of reason why people think Africa is cursed.

Like you previously said kenya was undone by global oil crisis in 70s and 80s - and the very high population growth - otherwise if you look at our growth rate in 60s and 70s - it was as good as Asian tigers.

I think we need to figure out a balance btw federalism and strong devolution like Germany. The real risk of federalism in ethnically divided country is if one county or state strike some oil or gold - they will want out. I think we need to allow counties to take more and more functions - and of course - also keep a share of their taxes - but this should be done progressively.

As for Cassano - you've got to be incredibly dense - to think there is ANYTHING Kenya can learn from Nigeria. We have provided empirical, anecdotal and tonnes of pictorial evidence - 4,000 pages long - that clearly DEMONSTRATE that Nigeria is ONE GIANT mess of Africa.

Nigeria other sibling is Tanzania and DRC. An argument can be made about us learning from Ghana - and definitely the Algerias, the South Africas, the Namibias, the Botswana, the Mauritus...those are countries that are truly progressive.

Kenya is easily one of Africa most progressive nations - we have our challenges in corruption, huge infrastructure deficit and ethnicity - but it's nothing compared to the mess Nigeria find itself in.

the biggest problem with some Nigerians is that they are not very patriotic, whenever something small goes wrong in their country, they are all over the media bashing the Govt and its devt. record, maybe this is how you express your patriotism, i will never know. and i know that these kind of ranting might have prompted Kenyans to believe that we are way ahead of Nigeria and hence the creation of this thread grin, so now when you actually unleash the true picture of Lagos and other Nigerian cities, not the ones shown on BBC and Aljazeera, people actually are like damn i din't know Lagos has that kind of infrastructure? the beauty of life is to accept that someone is greater than you, we cannot all be equal, Kenyans lets accept that Nigeria despite all its shortcomings is still the giant of Africa, we are an emerging economy with great prospects, but trying to prove something that will never add value to your life is insanity, i use to believe also like many Kenyans that Nigeria was a lost cause, a backward society. stop getting your news from BBC, CGTN and the rest, youtube is free, take a tour of Nigeria from the comfort of your living room and maybe, just maybe you will understand that Nigeria is not our mate. its sportsmanship, asiyekubali kushindwa sio mshindani.

I think 4,000 pages later - I can confidently say Nigeria GDP is about 2 or 2.5 (at it's highest) times Kenya - whatever data I have analysed in whatever sector - If Kenya GDP is 95B (now - 100B by end of year) - Nigeria GDP is 200-250B. And if you think Oil sector from their GDP - they go as low as 150-180B dollars - a LDC like Tanzania.

Let's us avoid Nairobi - it's too much for your slumpolis.Start with Vipingo ridge - in Kilifi - near Mombasa city.
Vipingo Ridge is Africa's first and only PGA-accredited course. With Villas that cost 1m dollars.
