They are both Four star generals... Lt. Gen

No sir! Lt.Gen is 3 star general while General(full general) is 4 star.

It is not Olonishakin. The Chief of defence staff, a 4 star General, cannot outrank the C in C who is a 5 star General.
Buhari is like a ceremonial head. He controls the armed forces

Of a truth the CDS has higher rank and administrative control over COAS, he is NOT really that powerful as he has no control of operational activities of the Army.

The COAS is more powerful and dangerous in any setting than CDS, he is even more influential.

The C-in-C don't joke with COAS.
but COAS reports to directly to the CDS.

Nope!!! All service chiefs report to the C-in-C.

The COAS only have coordination superiority and rank above all of them.

Technically, the highest ranking officer in Nigeria is Buhari. Many Nigerians dont know this but the president of Nigeria or whoever hold the title of 'commander in chief of the armed forces' holds the rank of Field Marshal or 5 star general.

Buhari is a 5 star General while the Chief of defence staff is a 4 star General
You are right.

bros, COAS IS NT AS POWERFUL AS THE CDS but due to the war happening in the north makes pple to forget.
The most influential appointment holders in the military are the GOCs, FOCs and AOCs, I call them the most influential because they control more men. Among the three of them, the GOCs are the most powerful, because they have more men. No coup can succeed without at least one GOC. Who controls the GOCs? It's the COAS. The CDS is two ranks ahead of the GOCs, but they don't take instructions from him. They answer only to the COAS, which makes the COAS more powerful. Ask any soldier and he'll tell you exactly what I have said.

Happening around coups are sinister and are not normal. So You are saying the If the CDS gives orders to GOC they wont Obey? I laugh in spanish

I guess you're not familiar with the phrase "Chain of Command."You may not understand the way it works except you're in the system. I am a soldier, retired though.

CDS is officer without portfolio. He cant even give order to the service chiefs because they report the CnC. He is just a political figure.
You summed it up. The CDS is a political position and doesn't control the troops, the COAS does! In 1979 Obasanjo appointed Gen. Akinrinade as COAS before handing over to Shagari, few months later he was made the CDS and gen. Wushishi was made the COAS, reason the North was not comfortable with a Yoruba COAS. Hence you could see it was created in the first place to accomdate Akinrinade.

silent as he maybe if the CDS coughs even the COAS will mellow. burutai is only popular cos of the boko haram insurgency else na one chance be him name
That's true. The fight against boko haram is handled by the army. That's why buratais name is more popular coz he's the chief of army staff. If it was a joint operation between the army navy and airforce let's say book haram were to be in the south south or all those riverine areas then you'd have heard more of the chief of defence staff or chief of naval staff.

IGP, COAS and Chief of Air Staff are the three most strategic service positions and they are all occupied by Northerners.

All Service Chiefs report directly to the President and combatant orders flows directly to them from the President. In the USA, combat order goes directly from the President to the Division responsible for the theater.

CDS role is purely administrative and inter-service coordination.
