Nigeria’s oldest secondary school, CMS Grammar School is celebrating 160 years of its founding in grand fashion and with multi-million Naira projects. To celebrate the landmark anniversary, the management, board of governors and Old Grammarian Society (OGS) of the school have kicked off a series of activities and programmes.

At a media briefing in Lagos days back, the President of the Old Grammarian Society, Mr Adedapo Fashanu, disclosed that as the first secondary institution in Nigeria, the history of education cannot be written in Nigeria without the school. “The history of secondary school education cannot be said without the mention of CMS Grammar School”, he said.

CMS Grammar. Wow! I visit Bariga but hasn't been to CMS Grammar school.

CMS Grammar is older than Hope Waddel Training Institute, Calabar. I was at Hope Waddel months back and I could see from the environment and structures, a lot of years of history.

Good one. The premier secondary school churned out many academics and leading industrialists. It is only proper there give back to the school.

The Yorubas, via Late Baba Awolowo, embraced education very early.
And it paid off as no profession you can think of today, without a Yoruba man.

South East embraced business and today, we have highest number of millionaires in Nigeria and Igbos is second to embrace education en masse.

The north is the least educated in Nigeria. The few educated (illiterates alike) ones have access to government jobs and political positions.
