Commenting on the Oando saga, an investment analyst and shareholder activist, Nona Awoh said SEC’s was based on the outcome of a forensic audit by Deloitte & Touche, a firm of international external auditors, “except the company (Oando Plc) can prove otherwise.”
“Much more important, investors themselves need to learn to protect themselves, which means they must begin to ask the right questions and taking up management of public companies. I am not sure we are doing enough (as shareholders), because if we were doing enough, maybe we would have seen some of the things the SEC is talking about… Maybe we saw it, but did not take cognizance of the full impact of what they are talking about.”

Absolutely !! ...it couldn't have been better said.

Thank u Sir Nonah Awoh for this explicit input.

Luckily, some of us saw most of these concerns and red flags in OANDO years ago and took to safety.
...and while we did our best to enlighten others, there is not much impact that we can make.
Because just one person like me(and maybe a few others) can not do much if and when the majority is either ill-informed, acting indifferent to matters and/or 'working against the tide'.

The urgency of the need for real/true shareholder activism is just about one of the many things we have been calling out for in years.
As shareholders, we must understand that(in the investment world) we are lowest on 'the investment hierarchy scale of preference'.
Some persons are not aware that if and when a company goes bankrupt or is liquidated, the creditors, bondholders and quite regrettably, other key domestic/foriegn investors, board members and management all take higher and far much better preference ahead of the minority shareholders. ...this situation is even made more worse by 'the Nigerian factor'.
We are far behind in that hierarchical step.
...and because of that, it's easy for some of these managers to manipulate and manoeuvre their way around, using some of the 'subsets in the hierarchy', particularly the bold, to suck up every return from a company and leave us with 'empty shrubs', if at all !!
This is why u have very few quoted companies that have managed to stand the test of time on sound coperate governance.
I have always maintained that we are not doing enough as shareholders.
The 1st step is to see ourselves beyond the traditional statement; "I am a shareholder"
It's high time we saw our stakes accross different firms as INVESTMENTS. ...as ASSETS that we HAVE TO GROW its margin.
But u can not grow a thing if u fail to, or act indifferent on the need to PROTECT IT !!
In the finance world, capital/asset preservation is thrice as important as its appreciation. U can not grow(net margin) if u can't preserve what should bring about that growth !!
In fact, its high time we became OVERPROTECTIVE of our INVESTMENTS !!
Nigeria requires us to be. ...the deficiencies here are beyond deep and the rot in the system is at best, alarming !!
I have always said that the coperate world is structurally configured 'to take from the minor and give to the elite'.
Again, we must learn to ask the right questions, speak up laud enough, and fight the right fight !! Our voices and 'its echoes must be heard without season'.
But we can not achieve any success if we work not as a COLLECTIVE and if we fail to speak with one voice !!

On an individual level, I have always advised on the need for folks to work to equip themselves with the RIGHT TOOLS that will act as shield when the need arises.
Some of my past written NUGGETS(I posted some here) can be handy tools in that line.
Like I said before; It has become even more imperative than ever to DEFINE U and inculcate in that definition, the WHY, WHEN and HOW to go about any investment before taking a plunge. ...particularly in the stock market.

Fortunately, we still do have the option to make the RIGHT CHOICES !!

Salah.

You have said it all.
'Shockholders' of Oando value Wale's words more than their deserved dividends!

If you enter a stock and they are not paying dividend, take it from me, they are either presently stealing or have already stolen everything, or are in the process of stealing, before bringing out that FICTITIOUS earnings report.
At least we all know that no law mandates them to bring the money they claim to have made and count it during AGM. Even if this was so, they will borrow it and count it, take it back after the AGM.
I honestly pray we understand this, no one can force you to become a shareholder in any stock. This is the ONLY sure way to safety.

See how people are putting head inside JA'POO'.

You see why I asked somebody who "shareholder" is. Someone will just write something and say "shareholders say".

This is the second statement I am seeing credited to shareholders. Both contradictory statements. I will soon issue my own statement

LoL, I have explained who the shareholders are to you.

Noticed their names:-

Sokoto shareholders

National Chairman, New Dimension Shareholder Association,

These ones are Oando supporters club .

As long as all of us are in NSE and Oando is one of the listed company, Oando matter concern all of us, we are all NSE stakeholders.
One may wish to buy Okomo oil and mistakenly place order for Oando at market price when it will be on full offer, and the order will automatically filled.

If all listed stock are sound, one need not to bothered so much in such mistake, so it's not good to have MMM kind of company listed in NSE, that's why NSE have car park, which is now 20 kobo, when a company started reporting loss, without sign of surviving soon, car park will be its next destination, until it return back to profit, then they can move up again.

I think we need to be patient with Uacn.... The price will likely bounce back. Even fbnquest in their recent analysis last week rate it from neutral to outperform.
Since they release their wonderful q1 result there have been a significant rise in the volume of the stock each day.
But q2 result would likely bring the change we were expecting to see.
You're right. I just expect him to bail out when it hits 7/7.20 and enter lower again if he so wish.

Lol. Peter I don't have Oando again.
Reason I mentioned the 3naira junction is that anyone that wants to play a quick game might know that the game might take longer than necessary. I may be wrong sha. smiley

DAILY STOCK MARKET GUIDE FOR 06 JUNE 2019

Oando is going to take the shine off the market. MSCI still selling, has sold 8.4m units of OANDO since onset of SEC crises.

We should expect the bearish trend to continue till the end of the week. Temporarily, for the week we will put any buying on hold.

Caution: This is for information purpose only. Data used are assumed to be correct. However, you may want to verify the data from an appropriate source. Also, Institutions can afford to suffer big losses without going burst compared with an individual, you cannot follow them blindly (you need to at least have some knowledge/your own plan). At a time like this when the market is agonizingly slow, you begin to wonder what keeps UBN at N7.70 over and above the likes of UBA, Access and FBNH.
Is it TA, FA, GA, or what? grin
