We've heard all this mentioned before.Kenya's tittle is here to stay with a projected 10 trillion shillings GDP by the end of this year.Get to know what they are paid in Ethiopia and then see the monsters that benefit from that country's cheap labour and electricity!

thats true, Kenya has a sophisticated economy, but on infrastructure, i think Ethiopia is leading Kenya on these race, power in Kenya is very expensive, its the most expensive in the region thereby stifling industrialization, Ethiopia will soon unveil the grand Renaissance dam further strengthening their position as the leading power producer in the region, again china is shifting most its labor intensive industry to Ethiopia, the entire Africa will soon buy stuff from china only to be shipped from Ethiopia, Ethiopia has a brighter future than all the east African economies

For once obaaderemi has make sense
Kenya's manufacturing sector is a joke
no. Kenyas manufacturing is not a joke, its the high cost of production that is killing manufacturing in Kenya, towns such as nakuru in their glory days use to be manufacturing haven but due to high taxes, exorbitant power cost, higher wages compared to neighboring countries etc the industries died, i know you said you are from nakuru, can you share images of the collapsed industries here? i mean nakuru's industrial area is a ghost town, the government must fix these, last week KEPSA, urged the govt to atleast lower corporate tax to 20% to spur industrialization in the country. under the prevailing circumstances do you expect us to compete with Uganda and Tanzania? or even Ethiopia where a worker in their EPZ earn an equivalent of kes.6,000 while their Kenyan counterparts earns almost kes.15,000

Ethiopia will very soon be the factory of Africa. All it needs is an opening up of their economy. Do you know they just signed a deal to help Ghana restart its state airline and they'll be owning 48% of the new joint venture?

and i pointed that out, yes it is not something to celebrate, but look at the bigger picture, even in china when massive industrialization started there, cheap labor was one of the factors that drove industries to china, so many companies will rush to invest in Ethiopia due to factors such as cheap labor, then once labor becomes more educated the wages will rise and by the time this same industries will be looking for another country in the third world to relocate their companies Ethiopia would have gain so much in terms of knowledge transfer so much so that it will have its own local apparel industries to compete with the rest of the world. remember its not always about wages but transfer of knowledge.

yes you cannot survive on Kes.6,000 in Kenya and i dont think whether you can survive on that amount in ethiopia either, but the ethipian government is looking at the long term goals not short term gains. sometimes its better a half a loaf than no bread at all. thats the superior logic here

Kenya has a high cost of living compared to Ethiopia
So the 6000 kshs can work for an average Ethiopian
